Does anyone have any ideas about how to write about how a traumatic home during high school affected grades without sounding whiny or woe-is-me?

I'm in the middle of writing this essay, but I don't want it to sound like that, because I'm not whiny or bitter about it, but my home life empirically DID affect my grades in high school.

Or, has anyone else written an essay like this who would care to swap for editing or opinions?

Hi, just stumbled in.

I told them everything they needed to know in the "Additional Information" section of the common app. There is usually a place for writing those things. If you've already written your essay, good luck!
