[29 Jul 2007|04:58pm] |
last night when I got home from dinner, I attempted to organize the part of my Viv/Larry (Olivier) collection that i have here at my apartment. The other part is at my parents' house, which is more like classic film things in general with a huge emphasis on GWTW. So i got this large 3 ring binder and sheet protectors and put some stuff in there. larger things like LIFE and Vogue magazines and books obviously can't fit in page protectors so I just have those in plastic sheets laying in my book case. But so now that it's mostly organized, I thought I'd take some photos and share. I still have 3 more things coming in the mail from ebay as well as hopefully getting three more on top of that if I win. We'll see. One day I'll organize everything I have together and take photos but for now I'll just list what i have here and things from memory that I have at home. I'll put the Larry/Viv stuff in bold.
So.

I think the only other people that collect these are old ladies. Lolzzz. The boxes are so adorable, but I don't have the space to display them all, unfortunately.
Most of them are nursery rhyme characters. Though you can't really tell because my pictures suck.

Question!
How do you guys look after your collection areas? Do you dust them often? My area's getting a bit dusty and I'll be cleaning my room this weekend so I'll do it then but some of you have really big collections so what do you do? Take all the items off, give the shelves a dust? Use those duster wipes or something else? Give a newbie collector a few tips here!
This comm's been a bit quiet lately so I thought I'd make a new entry!
( yes, they're more books unfortunately but I'll have another proper collection to show off in a week or so! ) How about you guys, have you got anything new in your collections?

| My BA Embroidery Final Project!! |
[21 Feb 2007|01:08am] |
|
I am asking for your help with my final project on my degree. It’s all about forming visual representations of collections and taking this through to design ideas after lots of drawing and investigating objects. I am trying to form an exciting and diverse collection by asking people from all over the world to send me objects in the post! It can be absolutely anything, the stranger the better! It does not have to relate to embroidery or textiles in any way. The object(s) need to be: · small, no bigger than 10cm square. · old or used or with an exciting history · inexpensive – I unfortunately can’t send you money in return! Please send your objects to: Danielle Goodhand School of Art and Design Manchester Metropolitan University Cavendish Building Cavendish Street Manchester M15 6BG Please remember to include your name, address and telephone number so I can send you something in return for helping me with forming my collection. The project will be exhibited in the Embroidery degree show around June 2007, I will post the exact date as soon as I know! The deadline is the end of May 2007 but the sooner the better really!! Thanks so much for your help!!!!!!

I was originally going to post these as separate collections but I think it goes well together but be warned, this is image heavy! Errr, also word heavy, it's kind of turned into an essay, sorry!

[12 Feb 2007|08:24am] |
Okay okay, I'm finally doing it! Putting up my Gwen Stefani designed items - aka my L.A.M.B. and Harajuku Lovers collection! I decided it would be a lot less daunting if I did this one section at a time. What could be more fun to start off with than one of my favorite categories - bags!
I don't know why I made the images so huge. Sorry if they're annoying! Each brand's bags are posted in the order I received them.

When I was little, I adored Disney movies especially Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. I loved the teaser trailers for this film, Lilo and Stitch, when it was first released where he antagonises all the leads of other Disney movies and I loved it, how it was slightly subversive plus ELVIS loove! I think it's my favourite Disney film now.

Hello fellow collectors!
I've got some gorgeous memorabilia heading my way soon as my Christmas present to myself whoo! In the meantime, I was wondering do you guys follow particular people who collect? I mean for instance here on LJ, I'm friends with tikistitch as she has AMAZING Stitch things from all over the world (I've even sent her a few items and Stitch is my favourite Disney character) and her husband is a very big name in Star Wars collecting so their house is utterly brilliant and has collectables all around! you can visit it here. I also recently have found myself looking at people who collect Freddy Krueger/Nightmare on Elm Street and their collections are amazing as well. They all post on a messageboard but lately they've made it members only so you have to register to see, otherwise I would have directed you there! I met Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger) a few weeks ago and he was one of the loveliest people I've ever met, got a really nice picture of him signed too, hooray!
I always love visiting the Drewseum as well to see new updates or look at different sections I haven't seen before, Ashley and Anne have such great collections!
I found these pages in an old magazine, there were two others, a Shirley Temple collector and a Marion Davies collector but I couldn't fit their collections on the scanner since they were spread out over two pages but if people are interested I'll do them too..

and James Bond shrines ahoy! http://www.ajb007.co.uk/index.php?topic=23531
