Well, last night's show was great. It was funny and irreverent and we loved it. I'd love to be in it some time but even so, I can't wait for it to become available to the local theaters. If you have a chance to see it and can swing the cost, it's really worth your while. We ended up buying the souvenir book (which is bound in orange muppet fur) and I can't wait to read it. It's supposed to have a lot of extras about the show. We were also glad to see __kat__ at the show. She really needed to get out of the house and get away from everything. There was much hugging and consoling and I really hope it did her good. I'm hoping to be abel to try and make it to the funeral today. I should be able to get off early and just make it but I'm not sure. I do have to mention that prior TO seeing the show we stopped by McAlister's for dinner. I had a swiss cheese potato and a slice of pumpkin cheesecake. That was the most amazing cheesecake I've ever eaten. It was a lightly pumpkin spiced cheesecake filling over a dense layer of pumpkin pie. The flavor was rich and wonderful. I so need to have more of that. Not much else really going on for now. I will talk to you again tomorrow. TTFN! Current Mood: somber |

Howard out, Cheedle in - Iron Man 2 This entry originated at hellblazer.net. You can comment here or there. (via The Hollywood Reporter Don Cheadle is stepping in to replace Terrence Howard in “Iron Man 2,” Marvel Studios’ sequel to its summer blockbuster.
In the movie, Howard played Jim Rhodes, Tony Stark/Iron Man’s best friend and future armor-clad hero War Machine. One scene featured Howard looking at a silver suit of armor and saying “Next time,” a line that caused great delight for fans.
But there will be no next time for Howard.
Marvel had no comment, but sources close to the deal said negotiations with Howard fell through over financial differences, among other reasons. Marvel, which had wanted to work with Cheadle, then decided to take the role in another direction and approached the actor, who is shooting Antoine Fuqua’s “Brooklyn’s Finest” with Richard Gere and Ethan Hawke.
Rhodes is expected to play a larger part in the sequel, which is rumored to go beyond high-tech villains. Justin Theroux is writing the screenplay.
Jon Favreau is returning as director, and Robert Downey Jr. is expected back as billionaire industrialist Stark/Iron Man. Gwyneth Paltrow also is expected to be back as Stark’s assistant, Pepper Potts.
————————————
I think it’s a great move. Cheadle looks better next to Downey Jr. No really I made you some art to show you:

Art Spiegelman My 'paid account' has expired again on LJ which bums me out. Last Thur Art Spiegelman gave a talk in Portland at the Bagdad Theater. He talked about the nature of comics, his personal relation to comics and his latest book. It was a great experience - very inspirational. My only frustration was that he was only signing his newest book. Current Music: #340: The Devil in Me - Chicago Public Radio |

Registration Fraud Here's a good base article on the subject. It explains the basic principal of the "problem" fairly well. It also shows how bringing up the question publicly and laying the responsibility on your opponent makes it look like there's already a scandal before anything has been proven! If you're smart enough to read between the lines. Two key questions: If we're so aware of how many instances of registration fraud there are, doesn't that mean they're being caught and weeded out of the system? Who do you trust more to make a judgment call, a committee of humans bound by law, or a computer run by a program that most people don't understand? You know, just so we're forearmed when this topic starts really bucking out of control. |

Weird! The large version of my background image seems to have disappeared!
I guess it's either time for a new image.
I wonder what happened to it. Is it a glitch in the system, or did some administrator yank it because it looked like something that was copyright (I got it from Wikicommons).
edit: Nevermind! It's a problem with my laptop's installation of Firefox, apparently. |

Concerts, debates, beards and mentos. This entry originated at hellblazer.net. You can comment here or there. So it looks like I will be seeing Rollins at the end of this month and Rev. Horton Heat mid next month. I will also have some great company early next month, and then late next month again as some of my favorite people come to town. There’s also a wedding to go to at the end of the month.

REMEMBER You only have until midnight (EST) tomorrow to put in your question for the Doom vs Zod presidential debate.
————————————————
I love beards. I’ve had once since about junior year of High School, and except for a few months in the early 90’s I have always had me a full beard. I’ve worn it long and shaggy (once while wearing a plaid hunting-type jacket the sister of one of my best friends saw me walking down the street, had never met me, and said to her brother “Look at the lumberjack,” all right?) and I have worn it very short. I shape it differently every now and then and generally just enjoy having a beard. Beards are good.
But here’s something they might not warn you about, regarding beards. It’s something you learn with time and cursing. Beards, when freshly trimmed by an electric razor, are sharp. The hairs are often short, spiky and have an edge at an angle. Which means that when your chin itches a bit, because that does happen in life, and you reach up to scratch it you may stab yourself. It isn’t bad but it is a tiny splinter. And I mean tiny. Little hair.
Pain. In. The. Ass. Or finger, as the case may be.

Hi everyone! I hope you're all doing well. On the whole I had a great weekend so here's the update. On Friday night we went to see "Godspell". The show was really fun and the cast while not perfect really had a lot of heart and passion which made up for any rough edges. There were some standout talents that I hope to see in other productions soon. After the show we went to Cracker Barrel for dinner. I discovered that apple butter is a wonderful seasoning for a pork chop and both myself & friendstephen bought a "batula" before leaving. Saturday we stayed at home most of the day. We did some tidying around the house and finally put up the food that we're going to keep for one reason or another and made a large box full of what I just couldn't keep. We let friends "shop" from it and between that night & the next day's concom, it all got taken. That evening veronica_rich & friendstephen came over and we all went on the Irvington Ghost tour. It was really great but a lot of walking. Luckily I brought along a walking stick and had taken some pain killers for my knee so I didn't have any problems making it around. Sunday morning we went to church and ran a few errands. This led us to a light brunch at Ruth's Keystone Cafe (it's right next to the Maggie Moo's on 86th street). We each had mini pots of chocolate mint roobios tea and shared a fruit and cheese plate that was really wonderful. It was light, satisfying and what I really needed to center myself again. After that we ran by the final Farmer's Market of the year at Ellenberger park (which is a couple of blocks behind our home). We had a great time I petted a lot of wonderful doggies (including one watchdog) and I got to decide where I am going to set up for next Friday's Halloween Festival event. After that we made it to the "Concom Nom Nom" at WB's Pizza. The food was great, the company was wonderful and I accepted the offer of being chair of the costume contest. The only imperfection was the tragedy that befell my dear friend __kat__. She lost her father in a horrendous way and I cannot begin to understand the anguish she is going through. You can go over to her journal for more details & to offer condolences. She needs lots of love and support right now so reach out to her if you can. Yesterday's blood test went well. I scored 2.5 which is well within the range I'm supposed to be. If I do well next week then I only have to get stabbed every two weeks. That's really it for now. I'll try to post again later. TTFN!
