the footnote March Madness!!! Anti-Thoughts - Dustin Grovemiller Far from being another biopic about a troubled rock star, here's the story of Dustin's encounters with "Rock Band." Letters from Heck - Laszlo Xalieri A biology lesson from Heck -- how are we like snails inside our own houses? Is a house more important than a hand? We can't answer this, but thankfully Laszlo can. Pure Lard - D.J. Kirkbride D.J. explores what it means to be "a pussy." This isn't necessarily from personal experience... Okay, yes it is. Reality Is What You Make It - John Belden John reinforces the idea that "words mean things" -- which is great because now we've sort of got this three-part tie-in with Laszlo's ideas on biology and D.J.'s alleged propensity for being labeled a pussy. Read the other two first, then cap it off with a dose of Beldar's magnificent brain. Sight Gags for Radio - Adam P. Knave Adam is always working, well beyond the physical action of typing strings of letters together into cohesive thoughts. Tales of the Workin' Girl - Krystal Thompson Krystal, on the other hand, is never working -- at least that's what we suspect after reading her answers to the following fifty questions. The Truth of the Matter - Ryan Dilbert Ryan tries to endure a stint as a cat sitter. Remotely Controlled Jennifer and D.J. go on a television franchise bender. Spoiler Warning Dustin takes a look at Dragonlance: Dragons of Autumn Twilight You Decide! Oh -- a wise guy, eh? | | Sunday, February 24th, 2008 | 12:30 pm [tmcm]

Reality Is What You Make It - John Belden An examination of the church's influence on culture and science throughout the years. Oh, and John -- there are some guys here in hooded robes that want to have a word with you. Sight Gags for Radio - Adam P. Knave Adam's about to be published again, small press style -- so when you're in his position, what all needs to happen? Tales of the Workin' Girl - Krystal Thompson Krystal finds herself fighting apathy, not just at the office but also on the home front. The Truth of the Matter - Ryan Dilbert Company's coming for the big game -- but when Ryan learns who's coming as a guest, he has a typical royal misunderstanding. Cinema Eaters Robyn delights in the spectacle of Lindsay Lohan essentially playing herself onscreen. Hooray for Comics! Adam takes a quick look at some of the current stories on the stands and decides that... well, you'll see. You Decide! Which Bea Arthur phases you the most? | | Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008 | 11:29 pm [djkirkbride]

The rest of the footnote's Nov 1ish update is up! Read and be entertained, peoples. We already have one column for December waiting in the wings due to my poor filing system, so we're already ahead of schedule for next time... barring any HQ moves, of course. I've made it clear I don't want the footnote HQ to be moved to an abandoned factory in Detroit, so I think we're safe unless a moonbase goes on sale or something... Huh? What? Ummm... here are the new columns! Anti-Thoughts - Dustin Grovemiller As National Novel Writing Month again is upon us, Dustin stops to reflect on why this is not an idea he can get behind. AWCOMIX - Anthony Woodward The tale of a move -- not just about the destination, but about the place Anthony's called home for so many years. Gently With A Chainsaw - Leigh Sholler Leigh takes a plunge into a new job, which then yields some unanticipated mental benefits. Pure Lard - D.J. Kirkbride Deej visits a strange new movie theater where the seating is so casual that it's actually uncomfortable. Reality Is What You Make It - John Belden John explores the societal and political effects of "The Selfish Bastard Theory." Sight Gags for Radio - Adam P. Knave Adam is either having a schizophrenic episode or his cat is getting to close to his naughty bits. Or both. Part of the Nov. 1 update of "the footnote" is online! Er... uh... yeah, gang. Only part of the update. Don't look at us like that. We're moving from our HALL OF FOOTNOTE headquarters to our new FOOTNOTE SATELLITE digs, orbiting the earth so that we can keep a better eye on you... What's been updated thus far are the "specialty" columns. Lots of fun stuff for the kids here... Hooray for Comics! Adam and D.J. take a new look at an old friend: The Dark Knight Returns. Hooray for Comics! D.J. does a Q&A with contributors to the new comic anthology POPGUN from Image Comics. Book Report An interview with author Adrienne Jones about her new novel, Gypsies Stole My Tequila. Robot Poetry We've done ninjas, we've done pirates -- what's left? You guessed it... robots need poetic love, too.
You Decide! Another fun new activity here at the footnote -- you, the surfer of the interweb, can make your opinion known!
The rest of the update is sure to come soon! We'll keep you posted!

new comics, new ads, etc etc The Stumptown Comics Fest went great. I moderated the Peter Bagge panel without incident. The award ceremony went as well as one could expect for a maiden voyage. Most important, there was a record number of people through the door and patrons and providers both seemed to have a good time. I'm opening up the top panel of my website to ads. Just make a bid and it's yours (pending approval). The second opera seems to be coming along well. We're set to open on April 4th at PCPA - same place as last year. I'm moving to a volcano which seems an appropriate place to write an opera. Current Music: blood weeds OST | | Monday, October 1st, 2007 | 9:34 am [djkirkbride]

October 1, 2007 update of "the footnote"! Anti-Thoughts - Dustin Grovemiller Behold, the inner workings and explanations of why it's hard to maintain a line of communication with this column's author. Gently With A Chainsaw - Leigh Sholler The most exellent tales of Leigh's summer vacation, which managed to include volcanoes, an earthquake, aaaaaaand... oh, a hurricane. The New American Guide to Guerilla Self-Publishing - Trevor Whitecliff Trevor is back from a months-long exile of spiritual examination and hot rock massages, and here's his new column. Welcome to a new world of Reality Essays. On the Lam - Bethany Leigh Shady Always on the run, Bethany must sneak her way back to Milwaukee to see her ailing grandmother. Pure Lard - D.J. Kirkbride with an Illustration by Jason Erickesen D.J. talks about what kind of robot he'd like to be, which is painfully close to copyright infringement on the ideas of one of this site's other writers. Sight Gags for Radio - Adam P. Knave An explanation of the concept of "collected work," using tasty analogies about baking. Tales of the Workin' Girl - Krystal Thompson Krystal has some important lessons to teach on the art of not being at your desk. Or even in the office, for that matter. The Truth of the Matter - Ryan Dilbert Ryan is being stalked by aliens in this story that may contain a kernel of truth. Burn, Baby, Burn Dustin Grovemiller interviews singer/songwriter Juliana Finch Beyond Book Club - Adam P. Knave Hemingway and Rand go all Suess on your ass. No, that guy's a cop! Wait --it's just Maniac Cop. | | Tuesday, September 25th, 2007 | 5:50 pm [scripturemonkey]

This summer me and some friends shot some photocomics in the Tales from Crypt style--short, silly scary stories with some kind of moral twist. This one is more in the Weird Science-Fantasy vein, but anyway, I'd like to know what y'all think-- | | Monday, September 24th, 2007 | 1:03 pm [tmcm]

Sept. 1, 2007 -- "the footnote" monthly reigns supreme! Anti-Thoughts - Dustin Grovemiller It's a hard knock life -- well, it feels that way when you're stumbling around in the wee small hours of the morning, trying at all costs to avoid crossing paths with your significant other. Keep Out of Direct Sunlight - Shannon Bayleff Shannon's need of new clothing takes her out to the outlet mall. Pray tell, what fierce creatures will she observe in this foreign land? Letters from Heck - Laszlo Xalieri Always wanting to be of help, Laszlo gives you a handful of tips to prevent assholes from bothering you. Pure Lard - D.J. Kirkbride What are you gonna do when you just desire to do some good in this world of ours, but your help goes unwanted? Sometimes, the universe is just telling you to eat it. Reality Is What You Make It - John Belden John takes a look at the potential realities if a "North American Union" were to come about. Tacos and hockey living together -- mass hysteria! Sight Gags for Radio - Adam P. Knave Adam is either overwhelmed, easily distracted, fascinated with David Hasslehoff, or possibly he's just playing possum. Tales of the Workin' Girl - Krystal Thompson Krystal's handy guide for getting through those awful corporate meetings. The Truth of the Matter - Ryan Dilbert Ryan takes a trip to Japan, and -- okay, if he manages to provoke an international incident with this piece, please don't send us angry letters. Cinema Eaters - Robyn Guilford To close out September, Robyn takes a shocking look at the 1971 Ed Wood film Necromania. | | Monday, August 27th, 2007 | 12:59 pm [djkirkbride]

Of all the Superman movies to Spoil... Yep... after the greatness and near-greatness of Superman: The Movie ( already Spoiler Warning'd back on June 19, 2006 by DGrove and Trevor Whitecliff) and Superman II (also a movie, but not " The Movie" and yet to be Spoiler Warning'd), they went and proved the third time is not always the charm with the imaginatively titled Superman III. And they took Richard Pryor down with them. Or he took them down with himself. It's unclear, but... Richard Pryor??? In a Superman movie??? Being unfunny along with everyone else??? Read as Adam P. Knave and I can't stop ourselves from ripping a movie to shreds with our Superman loving rage. Poor Superman... |
