Coffee Neon by kimaginethis
I just saw this video at Wired.com for the amazing $11,000 Clover Coffee Maker, designed by Stanford engineers. Its a simple yet elegant design, and works "sort of like a cross between a French press and a vacuum pot" (says Matthew Honan).

My coffee pot has recently aqquired a rather musty smell. It's very unpleasant, and there is no way I want to be making coffee in it when it smells that bad! So my question is, can I stick parts of my coffee pot into the dishwasher? I've heard you shouldn't use soap in them, ever, so I'm kind of at a loss.. Should I just stick them in a pot of boiling water..? I want some coffee so bad~! I have a headache and everything.. :(

I have been grinding cocoa nibs along with my coffee beans lately, as I have said here before. I was wondering about grinders. I have an older one and it gets really gummed up with the cocoa butter. Is there a grinder out there that would handle the nibs better? Today, I simply crushed the nibs inside a coffee filter, but they were far from ground. I just have such a hard time with my grinder. Thoughts?

Also, does anyone know any good coffee shops along I70 through Missouri and Kansas? I'm taking a trip there soon and I want to go on a "Coffee Tour." How about St. Louis?
7th-May-2006 08:47 pm - Vacuum coffee brewing question
fara
Hi everyone:

I'm not sure this is the right place for this question, but I have a steel vacuum coffee system (that you make on the stove) and it's not working right. It has no electric parts, so I'm not sure what's wrong. But the coffee is supposed to boil in the vacuum cone and not go into the bottom pot until I take it off the heat, but the coffee boils a little bit, and then goes down into the bottom pot by itself, even if the stove is still on. The result is very weak coffee. Any advice?

The system is a steel pot, a steel cone, a rubber gasket that seals the cone to the pot, and a spring/filter thing.

Thanks!

HOLE - The most cake
I need to buy a new coffee maker, and I'd love all of your suggestions. I was thinking something small, since it's really just me most of the time and I hate making too much coffee and having some to *gasp* throw out (because I am usually quite picky and like my coffee always fresh brewed and almost never will reheat it), but at the same time it needs to be reasonably priced.

I was wondering whether I should get one of those one-cup machines. Are they any good? Also, I have seen the Sensio maker mentioned here quite a few times, so I was wondering what the consensus (on Sensio XD) was. Can you also brew ground coffee and not just the pods? Isn't there a pod maker out there that lets you do that? I like the idea of the pods, but I would not want to limit myself to those, exclusively. I have a French Press right now, but it's the larger size, and I'm just wasting too much coffee using it. :( Do French Presses come in a single or double-serving size? That would possibly be an idea, too.

So, what do you all think?

On a totally unrelated note, has anyone else ever noticed that the coffee served at many diners (especially Greek owned establishments), Lacas coffee, is some really, really good stuff when it's served fresh off the Bunnomatic? I'm on the east coast, and I have noted that it's a common brand for restaurants and diners to use, and though it's a very mild coffee, I happen to think it's really, really good! Anyone else know what I'm talking about?

Thank you in advance to anyone who replies, and I will have a piece of dark chocolate in acknowledgement. BTW, I really love this community!

Jett!
I found what I believe is a stove top espresso maker in storage. It looks cool - anyone have a clue how to use it?

Yesterday I was at Wegmans and ordered 6 Godiva truffles of various kinds. When I got them, the total was about $9.00 (US) and my boyfriend made an incredulous exclamation that they couldn't be worth that much money. When we got home I let him try the milk chocolate espresso truffle and he is now a convert to the goodness that is Godiva chocolate and admitted they were worth the cost. Score for chocoholic me! Even if he still says I'm a chocolate snob because I won't eat Hershey's chocolate.
Also, does anyone here have a Senseo machine? I read some really bad reviews of it, and I don't know if I should get one.
