Looking for a name...
I bought a toy of chewy things for my birds awhile back, and the bottom had a sort of stone hanging on it.

My birds are going nuts over this stone more than anything else, so I was wondering if anybody knew the name (so I could see if I could find it by itself).

It's very lightweight and porous. I have some volcanic rock from New Zealand that looks similar to it, but I'm not sure if it's the same thing or not. It's surprisingly light - it appears like it should be far heavier than it actually is.

My birds are chewing it to death.

Anybody know what it is?

Oooh, could be. Do you know if that would be considered bird safe? It looks like that stuff, anyway. =)

I'm sorry, I'm not sure if it's bird safe because I do not yet own a bird. I can go look it up for you, though.

Naw, it's okay. Thanks though. =) I'll keep Googling and see if anything turns up. =) Some places seem to sell perches and things, but well... not everything out there is kosher in the bird world. That's probably what it is though. =)

you can find them in the fish department of any petstore or even walmart. people put them at the bottom of fish tanks usually...mostly in tanks that belong to their children.

Is it black and feels oily? </a></b></a>[info]sid had one in his cage when we adopted him, but our vet suggested we take it out. I don't remember exactly what she said, but it's used sometimes to help with digestive problems ... to help break up stuff, but too much of it can get stuck in their stomachs and/or intestines and cause problems.
