Current mood: curious

Today I noticed a scratch on Loki's face. He has had a scratch like this before and it went away after awhile. Today he was scratching himself again and must have reopened it. He's in a good mood and is does not seem bothered by it. I only wonder if I should take any action or let it heal.

The cut is not deep or bleeding, but it is exposed tissue.

From the front...

and just becuase he was being very good for the camera :)

perhaps research (or best bet, call an avian vet) and ask what triple antibiotics are safe for birds.

you may be able to just apply some with a q-tip to avoid any infection.

g'luck!

If you use a q-tip, I'd suggest buying sterile q-tips from the drugstore/pharmacist/etc, because the ones that come in a box are absolutly FULL of bacteria and could cause an infection, which would suck for your birdy!!!

My birds have had similar cuts and scrapes... and I just ignore them and let them heal. If you`re concerned, you can call a vet. But I wouldn`t worry very much about this.

Wuzo had one just between her nostrils, and I took her to the avian vet, who I absolutly love, my last one was a complete ass, she told me to let it be...but she said if I notice her making it bleed that I should come in again and we'll get her on a cream to make it itch less. So basically if he is making it bleed then take her to your avian vet.

since it seems like letting it heal is the way to go, maybe figure out how it happened in the first place? any toys he's chewed sharp or pointy? or maybe he flew into something? I've seen tiels who've flown into a wall lose face feathers in that area. Just an idea.

and the pics are beautiful. very artistic. :)

Zest is sitting diectly infront of my monitor and is absolutely engrossed in the pictures of Loki...

...I might be a bad mum... I would just dab it with diluted detol and sit it out a week... I am not made of money for the HUGE vet bills that I'd get when all they'd do is the same thing.

AWESOME pics! It looks like he's very healthy otherwise, I'd just keep the area really clean so he doesn't get an infection. Give him kisses for me!

One of my Cockatiels lost her whole crown from hitting the ceiling. It healed and she gained back all of her feathers. I would leave it alone if it isn’t bleeding. It will heal over again. Don’t let him scratch it. If you are really worried about it, you could try and put a small dab of anti bacterial cream like polysporin on it with a Q-tip.

My tiel flew into our front window and left wing prints on it... he had to be hospitalized for like 3 days because the vet thought he had a concussion (he freaked out about something and crashed into the window 5 or 6 times). Damn birds and flying into things!!!!
