for those of you who have birds... how many of you have cats?

just curious! :)

also.. is there any tricks with helping birds get used to being petted/scratched?

in other words, fefe (the white bird in a picture i posted a few entries back) has no prob sitting on my shoulder or finger or anything, but she can't stand to be scratched or touched.. infact, she just plain won't let you do it. so i was curious if there was any tricks in helping her get comfortable enough with me to allow me to do so.

perhaps it's only a matter of time, but i figured i'd try. ^__^ thanks!

Two cats and six birds, three of them tiels (then two budgies and a conure). Like [info]musicalbeauty, the cats are afraid of the birds after their tender noses were bitten through the cage bars. We do watch them, but we don't have to be hypercareful.

I got Chacha used to it by feeding him with treats and gently patting at the same time...might not work though. Eventually get got used to it....

2 cats and 2 tiels...

they don't mind each other a bit. the cats are actually afraid of the birds cause they make so much noise. I have also grew up in a house that always have both cats and birds with no problems...

One thing you can try is the towel trick. Wrap her gently in a towel, covering her eyes if possible and exposing only the back of her head and her neck, and gently preen her. If after a minute of this she`s relaxed and enjoying it, you can keep it up about once a day. If she`s panicking and freaking out... then it`ll do more harm then good.
I know some cockatiels that love towel-time, and others that HATE it. So it really depends on the bird.
