Molting or Stressing???
So, yesterday, I walked into the room where my lady-birds live, and what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a cage full of feathers, and a bird who seems to be preening constantly. One of my girls, I think, is going through a molt. She isn't pulling herself naked, but there is plenty of feathers to go around on the bottom of the cage. Is it the time of year for a molt???

I wouldn't be overly concerned with it, except for the fact that my partner and I are moving. Over the past few days, the house has gone from full of our stuff, to none of our stuff, and I know my girls have noticed the changes.

What's the best way to handle the molting, coupled with a move? I have a little pet carrier that I plan to line with a sheet, with a little perch and some food for the 1 1/2 hour drive to our new home, so that should be safe and warm enough for the girls. I'm just concerned with their psychological well-being. Am I running the risk of stressing them out too much???

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Birds molt every six months. Of course, it could be a stress-related molt since there are a lot of changes happening. I'd just be careful with her. Be sure she stays warm enough and give her lots of affirmations. I'm sure she'll be fine after everything settles in.
