hello.
Hi everyone, I'm new to this community. But I'm glad there are a few million communities out there for cockatiels, but I especially liked this one because it introduced as "a community for people owned by cockatiels." and that's the truth. I figure they're worse than cats, we're their slaves.. And if your bird, like mine, has the run of the house all day, then ontop of slavery, their little world is also their commode.

Anyways, little bit about myself.. My family and I have had a cockatiel hen named Sam, roughly since August of 2000. I picked her out from all of the others, because I was too blind to see that all of those times she had let me pick her up at the store, all of those times she actually came over to me.. Was all a rotten dirty scheme to get out of "the big house" and into, literarly, the lap of luxury. She has a beautiful cage, gets treats at least once a day (and if she devours the evidence quickly, another unsuspecting person of our household will hand her another.) and she eats exact diet, but won't eat the green pieces, only the red and yellow ones (mostly the red.) She's a part of our family.. And has permanently bonded with my Mom. Mom sneezes, she tweets.. Mom leaves her sight, she screams. Mom's garage door opens (and she can tell the difference between the two.) she screams bloody murder.. Now when my Dad and I try to pick her up, she lunges, bites, claws and carries on.. Well, most of the time at least. But she's become a part of our family and when I move out in January, unfortunately (cry.. cry..) I can't take her with me, but I'll get my own, but instead of a PMS-y, mean-spirited ol' hag of a girl.. I'll get a boy. (and if you need photographic proof, look at the icon.)

Well there's her life's story for you. Nice meeting you all.

Bella is the normal grey (split to pied), Seeker is the Cinnamon, and Snitch is the pearl.

I hate to do it, but I'm actually looking for a new home for Seeker and Snitch. I got them a month or so ago from a woman who could no longer care for them. Unfortunately, my boyfriend (whom I live with) is very unhappy with them. They're still very wild and scream constantly. I have no problem dealing with them... but my boyfriend is another story. So, I'm going to be selling them... to a responsible owner who has experience with 'tiels, of course. I would never just dump them off on the first schmuck that comes along.

Now, if my boyfriend had a problem with Bella, that would be a whole other story. I would be telling him to take a hike. I'm not that attached to S&S, but I love Bella more than anything. I've had her for almost 2 years.

I feel like such a bad person for having to sell them... but things just aren't working out. I'm just trying to make sure that they go to a very good home. :o(

Sheesh... I ramble.

:/ that stinks that you have to find another home for Snitch and Seeker. Exactly, you'd want to make sure they'll be cared for, I completely understand that and agree too. Amen! Bella is pretty :) and 2 years is a respectable time, and a nice time to get attached to the birdie :)

Rambling's good.. There could be alternatives to a new home. Are Snitch and Seeker older or still young enough to be trained? Now I don't know how to go about doing this, but you could probably find a way to train them not to scream. :P No, this doesn't mean tape their beaks shut, but there's always a way ;)

If you aren't able to train them though, I'm positive you'll find a wonderful home for them, maybe one that's close to where you live so you could visit them from time to time :) Good luck.

They're both over a year old (and from the same clutch). The woman I got them from had left them cage-bound from the time she got them. They had never seen a vet or had their wings clipped (or been handled for that matter) until I got them. Right now they're sitting on their landing door and eating a piece of millet that I was feeding them a bit ago. I put it down to go faff with my computer again lol. I may be able to get my boyfriend to calm down enough to keep them. The guy has more mood swings than any woman I know. *eyeroll* I love birds in general, so I'd hate to see them go. Bella is my little cuddle-buddy, so she won't ever be going anywhere. She's very much bonded to me.

A bird is NEVER too old to be retrained. Babies are certainly EASIER, but even an old fogey of a `tiel can learn to enjoy human company.

If they`re just a year or two old they`re still really young, though!

I fed my cockatoo Pretty Bird and she always ate the red pieces. Birds are so finicky sometimes. Anyways, welcome!
