and today when I went to my local pet store they had these guys; one of them instantly bonded with me (they have a large room you can go into and play with the birds) but Im curious as to what people who have a lovebird think of them vs. a teil?

Im also interested in how he may or may not interact with my very loving and snuggly teil??

any opinoins or advice is appreciated :)

the baby lovebirds are 'peach faced' and about 12 weeks old hand fed

I'm not saying this is true about all lovebirds, but I've read enough horrible stories about lovebird/tiel interactions to make me never want to put them together. In each case, the lovebird either killed the tiel or seriously mutilated it.

I know of a case where a `tiel and a lovedbird lived together for years without hurting each other.
But then again, I`ve heard so many stories of lovebirds maiming or killing cockatiels that it just ISN`T worth the risk. Lovebirds are very sassy, aggressive and territorial. It`s a bad mix. (Plus, look at the size of that beak! It can do serious damage).
Which isn`t to say I don`t like lovebirds. They`re great! I love the sassy. And they have so much energy! They`re great pets. They just should be kept seperate from any other species of bird. If they`re both out of their cages at the same time you should be careful to make sure the cockatiel doesn`t find it`s way onto any of the lovebird`s belongings or it could be ugly.

lovebirds are the boss in any household. I should know, there's one squawking for dinner from downstairs >< tiels are so submissive and have no ability to defend themselves against the powerful lovebird beak. Heck, i get mauled sometimes. i wouldn't put them together.

We have that combo in our house and those two birds don't get along at all! Squirt is older than Petey (the lovebird) so they were introduced when Petey was very young. But Petey likes to attack Squirt and bite her and she gets really mad and hisses. Sometimes we put them in the cage together and Petey just chases Squirt around and around until he gets tired then they 'co-exist.' I don't really care for Petey not only because he is mean to Squirt but he is SOOO loud! Nonstop squaking. He has also bonding with one person in the house and doesn't really like anyone else. They are definetly two different types of birds! Sorry for my rambling, I kinda got on a roll!

I would have to say a big NO on that one, I have a cockatiel (Tony) and a lovebird (Mao) and after Mao tried to mount Tony things didn't work out. Also lovebirds tend to have big jealousy issues.
