Current mood: sad

odd tiel behavior
Tuesday night my partner and I came home to find our 6 yo cat suddenly dead on the living room floor. Later, when we calmed down and had time to reflect we remembered that when we came in the house the two tiels Mr. Buzz and Mr. Honeydew and even the budgie Mr. Boober were quite and still. Both were standing on the same perch, silent and with their crests full up. Very odd. Usually they sqwak and cheep and say Hi guy when we get home, but Tuesday it was like a death watch.

I'm sorry to hear about your kitty. I, too, have noticed in the past that birds will react to a death, becoming quiet and still.

I had a friend who was trying to rescue a baby tiel. The baby tiel lived next to an african grey, and when that baby tiel passed away in the night the grey woke up their parents by repeatedly saying "baby went bye-bye"

ack i get all emotional thinking about it. Birds have a creepy knowledge of life and death.

birds are very observant and quick, most of the time i think they know more than we give them credit for

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear about your cat..that is so sad..:( Are you going to get a necropsy done? That is so sad..I'll keep everyone in my wishes...

When Pearl died, Gen was sad for a couple of weeks. He loves to sing and do the stupidest little stunts, but when Pearl passed on he fell quiet and rather sluggish. He started chewing on his feet and preening obsessively, but it all disappeared once we both adjusted to life without Pearl. I am sure that things will be okay...in the meantime, try to stay optimistic!
