Shall we think about getting started?

I noticed that we've only got five members right now. This would make sending out CDs easy, but I don't know that we'll get a very broad sampling of the music. Is it perhaps time for another message in the Coachella main community?

Now that the official line-up has been posted, should we now try to determine what a good deadline for sending out of CDs should be? There are a lot of bands this year that I've heard good things about, but haven't heard at all. I'm looking forward to some mix CDs that will open my eyes to new favorites.

I think the hardest/most fun part of the making the mixed CD is choose which one (or two, or maybe even more) New Order song to use.

I've been digging through my collection. I don't have much from many of the bands. In fact, I have nothing or just one song from a sampler or compilation collection from several of the bands.

And thanks for joining.

Almost everybody goes to Coachella with a list of bands they want to see that weekend (or day) but the great thing about the festival, and a main idea behind it, is exposure to bands you are only curious about/have only heard about/etc. It is really easy to pass by a stage and catch a few songs from somebody you did not intend to see. In fact, for many artists, Coachella is a kind of "coming out" party or a confirmation that they are indeed "the next big thing" for that year.

Anyhow, the main idea behind making a CD and sending it out to everyone else is to expose them to some of the cool stuff that you are into and think should not be missed. It is also a cool way build excitement for some of the really big bands that everybody wants to see. Besides, some of us just really like making mixed CDs.

Unfortunately, we all have to wait until the official lineup is announced by Goldenvoice before we can get started. In the meantime, here are a few things we should work out:

When should we "close" off the group? (The idea is that people should have a fair chance to get out if the group grows too big)

How long should we have to make the CD? When should the "send it by date" be?

How to make sure everybody has one another's mailing address?

Please feel free to ask questions, make suggestions and post anything else related to this project.

Most importantly, have fun and enjoy!
Jason
