Volunteer opportunities? [Jul. 9th, 2009|08:11 pm]

lilkittyangel
Ok, a little back story: I just graduated from high school and we moved from DC to here about a week ago. I don't really know anybody or the area, and sitting in my half-unpacked room is getting dull. I need to find some way to spend the summer before I head up to Boulder for college in the fall. Does anyone know of any organizations in the area that need volunteers? Or good places to find a summer job? I'm keeping an eye on Craigslist, which has been extraordinarily unhelpful thus far, and the only other websites I've found have like, professional jobs (like social work). So, if anyone knows of any age-appropriate seasonal work I could find this late in the summer, I would really appreciate it, paid, unpaid, whatever. Thanks!

Dropping off Glass [Jul. 8th, 2009|05:07 pm]

fe
Hi all!
I've been trying to recycle more and have been using the grocery store drop off spots lately to get rid of my junk. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find one that takes glass. Do you know of any place to just drop off glass without starting up service?

I'd prefer the north end, but I'll take anywhere I can get at this point.

(I've checked the Razorback Walmart, the Woodmen/Academy King Soopers, N. Academy Whole Foods and the Albertsons on Research, but I might have missed something.)

Oral surgeon? [Jul. 6th, 2009|10:48 am]

The usual post looking for ideas :)

I need a couple teeth taken out, including a wisdom tooth and hope some of you have had good experiences with some local oral surgeons. The dentist I went to on Friday isn't willing to do it himself.

Much appreciated!

Thank you all for your advice about the airlines! It was very helpful. Now is the task of figuring out what I'm doing when I get there ;)

Now, I have another question.
Since Memorial Park isn't having fireworks this year what are some good places to see em? This is one of my favorite holidays and I so want to see some good fireworks!!

I know Fort Carson has some tonight (I think), Air Force Academy, Sky Sox ... Palmer Lake, any other ideas? I get off work at 1 tomorrow so I'll have time to drive if need be, but I'd rather not go far. Also I'd like it to be free, I can understand if I have to pay for parking (if I HAVE to) but I'd like to do this as cheaply as possible.

Thank you for all your help, you guys are always helpful.

Airline opinions [Jul. 2nd, 2009|11:01 am]

itsacult
Hello all! I'm going to flying to California the end of July and have been looking into ticket prices. I've found that either Southwest or United are my cheapest. Southwest directly through the airline, United through Expedia. They're the same exact price so I'm wondering in your opinion who's best?

I know that with Southwest I can get 2 luggage bags free (I'll only be bringing one) and I've heard good things about them from friends who have recently flown there.

I haven't heard a thing about United nor do I know much about going through something like Expedia so I could use some of your opinions based off experience. Since the price is the same so I'm looking for other ways to tell.

I'm leaning towards Southwest because of the baggage thing since United charges $15-20 for it.

Thanks in advance :)

good place downtown to get potstickers/gyoza? [Jun. 24th, 2009|09:44 pm]

stupendous
Tomorrow I have to go to court downtown to pay my dues for driving around for half a year with expired plates (dammit!). Since I live in Briargate and very rarely have any reason to go downtown, I thought I should make the most of the trip and at least get a good lunch there. I've been craving potstickers/gyoza for several days now so I'm wondering if anyone can recommend any restaurants down that way that serve good ones. Chinese, Japanese, doesn't matter as long as it's delicious.

I really want to see the new Star Trek movie, but I have no one to watch my two-year old.

Are there any movie theatres here that have special showings where little kids are welcome?

Hey all.

I'm looking for great hotel/motel/B&B recommendations within 4-5 hours driving time. Pluses would be available swimming, good food and a few interesting things nearby to see or do if relaxing got boring.

Got any secret hideaways to share?

Thanks!

PIMA? [Jun. 22nd, 2009|11:58 pm]

I was wondering if anyone here knows anything about PIMA Medical Institute.

I may be moving to Colorado Springs soon and that's the school I might be attending. I've done some research on it and thus far have only come across one negative comment. But I thought I would ask around. So if you or someone you know goes there, could you please let me know if it's a reputable place?

Thanks!

Oh wait. I can't really welcome myself. Brownie points to those who recognize the reference.

Anyway. Hello my fellow Springsers (-ites, -ians, etc). With the departure of [info]thelastaurora I apparently am taking over the mod duties here. (By the way, good luck to her where ever she lands). I've been in COS for two decades now and have participated here in [info]co_springs for quite some time. You may have seen me comment on many a post. I don't plan on making any major changes since our community runs pretty well as it is!

If you have questions don't hesitate to shoot me a message. Thanks to you all who keep this little digital corner of the 719 alive and vibrant.

Roomate Needed [Jun. 16th, 2009|09:52 pm]
lilbit3603
Soo, I'm looking for a roomate.... mine is moving in w/ her BF and getting married (while I'm happy for her... this sucks! she's an awesome roomie). I haven't been in the area long, so I've put something up on CL but that's it. It's a two bed/two bath really nice apartment. Everything is furnished except the bed/bath available. The apartment has a balcony, w/d in apartment, dishwasher, and fireplace. It's in a nice area of town, close to alot of stuff (Powers Area). Utilities will be included in the rent for $500. I'm hoping to find a female to move in August 1st.
