| About: | This community is devoted to the discussion of the problems with which those who suffer from depression, anxiety, and other mood disorders deal daily.
Everyone is welcome here, even those who haven't been formally diagnosed or medicated in the past. This is first and foremost a discussion group. Do not leave comments in my personal journal if you are having problems with another member of the community or if you have questions. Any comments to my personal journal will be deleted. Please email me [nina (at) livejournal dot com] with any questions, concerns or problems.
The discussion here is not meant to replace the advice that you have been given by physicians, psychiatrists and psychologists. This is in no way a group that purports to supply its members with medical advice. All members are strongly encouraged to consult with a medical professional before making any final decisions about going off of medications.
What's an on-topic post?
This is a place in which we can all relax, talk freely about the issues we confront daily in dealing with our depression symptoms.
Talk about the difficulties you have in discussing your depression symptoms with friends, relatives and co-workers. Talk about the possible long-term effects of being medicated. Discuss the definitions of various disorders. Discuss the social ramifications of living with a mental disorder. Talk about the limitations of defining oneself within certain medical diagnoses.

In order to keep this community a safe space for us, I request that all posts be made friends-only. This can be done by using the full update mode if you're using the LJ web client.
This is to ensure free discussion and support among our members, and to allow our members a degree of privacy.
While I respect and support the right of others to be at odds with one another at times in the spirit of healthy debate, I hope that we can try and keep things civil and supportive. Do realize that these issues are very personal and sensitive.
I ask that you refrain from making cross-posts from your personal journal in the community journal. This is a safe space, but it is a discussion group first and foremost. This means that we're all coming together to discuss the issue of depression. I also ask that you not post poetry or free-writes here - again, this community exists to engender a healthy discussion of depression. There are a lot of creative writing communities on LiveJournal. Please respect this.
