Not sure waking this early was part of my 'sleep' plan. Ho hum. Much as I want to go and buy a handbag I've seen, I think I had better go to Homebase for some border adhesive, to Ikea for some bedside lights and maybe even to Apple for the iPod alarm dock thingy. ...and you should see my pile of ironing! Matt is busy reading satirical stories about Sarah Palin, the rain is coming down, maybe it's time to get moving? Current Mood: cheerful |

What to tell you? I've been super-tired this week. Lots of late nights but early mornings. Very sore throat. I think I may have lost my husband to Rockband. He's developed quite a talent for the drumming. Drummers are a funny bunch, hope he never actually decides to become a drummer for real. Me, I've been learning to play the bass, and am shite, but I don't have a problem with the singing. Apart from the whole sore throat thing. All people at work could talk about today was how it's going to RAIN ALL WEEKEND. We've deliberately planned a quiet weekend, though I have a secret plan to do a bit of house stuff. And sleep. There will be a lot of sleep this weekend. In other news I'm not really reading anything, not really listening to anything - it's been that sort of week. We had friends round two nights this week, and were out last night briefly, so the week has sort of flown by. Current Mood: cheerful |

The big news of the day is that my PC is fixed. I was right - I just had a mega-full c:\ which meant we couldn't even boot into Windows. James came and did a magic dance and it now works. Hooray. This is huge. My iPod is synched to my PC iTunes library, which means I can now update my iPod for the first time since June. In other news there was dinner...and rockband. I am sore-throaty and tired so time for bed. Hooray PC (I'm still delighted) Current Mood: tired |

Round up: Last night late home from work which meant our guests had already arrived. I woke with a sort of coldy thing on Sunday morning, and I'm trying to stop it taking over. Last night's guests are off to NYC tomorrow or the next day, so we are kindly and generously allowing them to lodge their XBOX360 at our home, entirely without charge and with no further thought for our comfort. We're so selfless. Our other lovely friend is forcing us to look after his copy of Rock Band for a little while, so when P&E came round to drop off our lodger, we thought we'd set up and have a go. Well, the others did. I lurked on the sofa for a while reading up about the baby pinatas. I didn't sleep well last night. We got to sleep late (by accident) then I woke before 2am with horribly sore tonsils. I sat up 'till nearly 5 before I realised I needed ibuprofen, so when the alarm went off at 6.30am I wasn't the most perky flower in the garden. To London and back today. Second day in a row. Actually, fourth day in a row, only we were in Berkshire for the weekend. Tomorrow a nice day in Birmingham. Hooray. Tonight it's 'plenty of rest, plenty of fluids' to try and avoid the nasty coldy thing spreading to my lungs. Ewww to nasty coldy thing. I shall just ignore it. Current Mood: tired |

We're definitely going to hell ...but we'll have all the best stories to tell. I can't believe I'm still up. I bet the other 5 people I was up late with last night are all asleep by now. Certainly Matt went up a while ago. I put the still being up thing to the looooong sleep this morning. Even though it felt like a wasted day, I definitely needed the sleep. Really wonderful weekend. Spending time with my girls is very uplifting. We're all a similar age, similar backgrounds and we're in similar places in our life. The sort of sisterhood you get from that is very rewarding. I remarked to cali369 that sometimes you feel like you're the only one who struggles to keep her magazine collection down to a manageable level.... Anyway. We had coffee and cake at Cali's then Matt and I headed for a drink round at 's. Lovely to see him and we admired all the DIY jobs he's done round the house. He's also lent us his copy of Rock Band - which Matt is VERY EXCITED about, I think.
Matt and I drove the 130 miles home in the dark and rain, Matt acting as DJ on the iPod, and I even got some of my requests played ('The Ballad Of Me And My Friends - Frank Turner'). Now *there's* a result!

I've only been up half an hour. This is unprecedented for me - I am early to rise girl. Must be something in the Bracknell air that does it. I've breakfasted, and it's probably time for the shower. There are three quiet people here watching the end of Ghostbusters Two, which is the sort of activity you'd expect from people who were up until 3.30am last night. Now off round to cali369's. Hooray. Thursday to London for meetings, then out to The Borderline for a gig. A Tom McRae gig, not sure if any of you have heard of him ;) I admit that I was more looking forward to seeing my girls than the gig - and the girls and I hooked up and went for a quick dins prior to the gig. We were also accompanied by the Mystery Snoring Man, who was charming. A bottle of wine put the girls in fine form, and we skipped along to The Borderline - one of my favourite venues. Tom's support was from Alex Cornish an unsigned singer-songwriter from Edinburgh. On the basis his single was Single of The Week on Radcliffe and Maconie's show on R2 last week looks like he won't be unsigned for long. Anyway. The gig. As ever, the Borderline was horribly hot. I think I actually melted. Tom was accompanied by his regular cellist Oli Kraus and his regular keyboardist Olli Cunningham. I think this is my favourite combo - the songs sound great with a bit of piano and the harmonies the Olis put on. The gig was wonderful. It was a sell-out, and full of real Tom enthusiasts. Best for me was an airing for a few uncommon songs like "You Will Rise" along with the recent new ones which we heard round and about the Hotel Cafe, like "Belly Of A Whale". We had all the crowd-pleasing favourites - so A And B Song, End of The World News, plus the newer favourites Got A Suitcase, Got Regrets, and Silent Boulevard. A very uplifting and fun night. And a lovely moment as he left the stage - he looked over towards where I was standing, looked surprised that I was there and mouthed 'hello!' (What a nice man!) We didn't hang on for a drink afterwards - the laydeez had trains to get - so I skipped out into the fresh air, back to my hotel for my regular call to the husband. Fantastic night. Could do with more of those, really. Current Mood: cheerful |

Rushing off to work now. Legs less stiff and achy. Matt has decided to call the visiting fox "Foxy Fandango". Breakfasts at the moment are yoghurt, museli and fruit. This morning's yoghurt was Rachel's rhubarb yoghurt which is very fine indeed. In fact you should get some. Not too rhubarby and not too yoghurty. Marvellous. Current Mood: bouncy |

Tonight taken out to dinner at Kababish by P&E for my birthday. Lovely time - sadly truncated by my need to come home and pack an overnight bag. But...not a great lung night, so probably just as well. Tomorrow to London for work...but tomorrow night a gig in one of my favourite venues with some of my favourite girls. Keep your fingers crossed for a good lung day. Also - clearly my legs mistook 'doing a bit of weeding' for 'running a marathon' for they are as stiff as stiff, and achy as achy things in a room full of achy things. It is very tedious. Monday. I woke to a slight ache down the backs of my legs. That'll be the weeding then. It's not Monday though, it's Tuesday, and I'm not sure whether it's better that it's Tuesday or what, really. Over the course of the day my legs got achier and achier and stiffer and stiffer (it comes from sitting in one spot for too long) and by the time I left work I was queen achy of the achy people. Home to make some soup for the husband and dive into a hot bath. Lovely. In the process of preparing for an early night, which is terribly dull, but terribly nice. Also - caught up with a bit of the TV coverage of the Reading Festival. I know I'm 40 and all, but all those shouty little guitar bands are really very similar indeed. (I'm only one step away from saying "it all sounds the same to me"). Listening to Dreams of Breathing Underwater (Eliza Carthy) on my way home. I have all her solo stuff, and I think this is the best of it. Hooray. Current Mood: sore |

Writer's Block: Your Online Hot Spots
Dunno really. Livejournal, email, facebook, wikipedia and whatever online game I'm playing. I'm not terribly adventurous on the net. I don't really read a lot of sites. I have The Observers top 50 blogs as bookmarks in a file (I usually read 'I can has a cheezburger' and 'Afterellen' and dip into "The Sartorialist' and 'boing boing'...but not sure I could claim to read any of these any more than once a fortnight. I'm a bit of an all or nothing girl with the internet. I don't have internet access at work to anything more interesting than google, and even if I did, I wouldn't have time to read it anyway. I do always read email in the evenings, and mostly read livejournal - but don't always have a lot of time or energy to post. On Saturday afternoons, if I have taken to the sofa for my nap, I have the MBP so could spend time looking at stuff...but I don't. I should be more adventurous, I guess. I mainly use the internet either to keep in touch, or to look stuff up. Current Mood: chipper |

Bank Holiday It's been a great, relaxing, Bank Holiday. Friday night we have stevegreen round for dins and some films. Sadly I was in the office until 7.20pm, which meant that there was no dinner (we had delicious take-away) and no dashing round tidying up in advance for our visitor (Matt did some of that). By a happy coincidence emma_emily was around and was able to join us. We made a jolly foursome - the gentlemen eye-rolled when Emma and I were scared during Eddie Loves You. Saturday was nice - very relaxing, out into Solihull - then home for a very long nap. Sunday after a quick tidy round, out to see Hellboy 2 at the cinema. I had a completely terrible headache by the time the film got underway, so I spent some of the middle of the film asleep on Matt's shoulder. It had been brewing since early Saturday morning, but the timely application of a sandwich after the film made me feel a lot better. After that Matt took me on a tour of some of the areas round Birmingham we'd never been to - it was lots of fun. Today has been supergrand. Out this morning for coffee, then off to see the Hair exhibition at BMAG. We'd seen the write-up in The Guardian a few weeks ago - and seen the people who cut Matt's hair in the article, so we had to go. It was a really great, thought-provoking exhibition. If you're in the area - go and see it. We then went and sat on the deckchairs in the "beach" in the square. The sun was deceptively hot - and we spent a happy hour in the sunshine watching neighbouring kiddies make sandcastles and play happily. After a quick lunch -( we were pleased to get some respite from the sun!) off to Cannon Hill Park for a wander round in the sunshine, some 99 flakes (you see Matt here with his') and a sit on a bench with our books and newspapers. Lovely lovely lovely late afternoon. We're now home. Matt is mowing the back lawn, I might just have a quick weed in the front garden - then it's the inevitable ironing. Earlier on we realised we've seen 4 films this weekend: War of The Worlds Sherrybaby Anchorman (for about the 4th time) Hellboy2 ...Matt managed to link 3 of the 4 to each other with a direct link - but only managed to link Hellboy in to the others via a six-degrees link. At one point I challenged him to link it in via Constantine - which he did. He's so clever! (If you can think of a more direct link - let me know!) Current Mood: cheerful |
