Survival [15 Jul 2009|03:24am]

I'm just curious what everyone plans to do to get by once cloves are banned.
Personally I would love to say I'm buying every carton I can find, but my finances right now make me able to buy maybe a pack a week.

What are your plans for surviving?

Obviously none of us think that its fair that they are basically stealing away our babies,
But isn't it possibly that the bill can be liked vetoed?
Can't it be possibly considered like a violation of World trade?
It would be putting out, im sure, a ton of clove farmers or what not
in Indonesia.
Maybe there is still a chance.

Grumping [02 Jul 2009|10:42am]

In 1997 Joe camel was stricken from Camel cigarette advertising after a study showed that more children recognized Joe Camel than Mickey mouse.

In 2004 a study was done that showed more children recognized Ronald McDonald than Jesus.
No action was taken.

The idea that clove cigarettes appeal to children is asinine.
Niche smokers have already sacrificed enough by having to pay upwards of $9 a pack.
It simply does not make sense that a child would pay almost $10 for a pack of cigarettes when they could spend $5 on a pack of USAgolds.

Djarums word to deliver clove cigars in place of their cigs only means even harder to find products and most likely more expensive.

How is it that not even our president can smoke without ridicule?

PS: Is it true they are banning hookah tobacco too? The only information I can find is the closing of hookah bars.

Roll your own? [01 Jul 2009|12:17pm]

Have any of you tried to roll your own cloves (in particular, making your own clove blend and rolling it), and if so, how did that work out?

Djarum Black Tea
A thousand times yes. I'm an avid clove smoker and coffee drinker, occasional tea drinker and I loved these far more than the cappucinos. The flavor was rich, the smell was dead on, and the overall taste was: Tea. The taste of clove rolled on so complimentary to the sweet tea (with that bitter tang) and in the end I was left utterly satisfied. I will say it seemed a little harsh upon exhale, but I also had chain smoked that weekend and my throat was a little grumpy about it. In the end I would happily repurchase, though unfortunately being shipped all the way from Indonesia I ended up with flat rectangular cigarettes....which are kinda funny when you try to flick them.

I purchased my Djarum Black Cappucinos from this eBay seller, and my Djarum Black Tea's from this one.

I also mentioned a combo carton available online here.

I smoke Djarum Supers. They are yummy. They are expensive, but I only a social smoker. One pack can last me a good two months depending on how I go out each month. The pack I have right now I have had for at least three. I have been staying home and focusing on school. :)

First they took my Sampoerna Xtras--Now I hear they have stopped making my beloved Zanzibar Xtremes! Is this true?! They are no longer on the site I used to see them on and I am in a tizzy! What will I smoke now if this is the case?? ;_; I'm crushed. Please help me know whether this is true and if so, where I can get a LIFETIME SUPPlY. I'll buy them from anywhere (I sound like such a crackhead haha). Help!

Thanks, peace,

Holy Grail [22 Apr 2009|10:05am]

I've been trying to get my grubby monkey hands on these for years and years. I remember long ago and far away when I first started smoking cloves I heard about this blend of Djarum Blacks and I immediately tried to find them. Unfortunately I only found cartons to order online...and typically they want you to send a money order to Indonesia. But I managed to find an eBay seller who sold them by the pack! I literally squealed like a little girl when I got them in the mail. I'm still waiting for my Djarum Black Tea's...

Djarum Black Cappucino: Fuck me. That was a good cigarette. Compared to the Zanzibar Zanzilatte ones, these win by a landslide. Where the Zanzilattes were heavy in tobacco (a trend in that brand I find) Djarum delivered it's signature 'Black' label of clove superiority that i've come to love and appreciate. The cappucino flavor is subtle, rolling on with the clove and only really tasted on the finish once you exhale. It's more like a coffee bean taste, coming close to a chocolate covered espresso bean. The cappucino adds a spicy depth to the Blacks. Flavored filter. You can see the cigarette in the picture. Not having them be black was kind of a let down, but oh well. Overall? Fuck yes, I would buy these again. Once I have the Black Teas, I have my eye on those combo cartons i've seen online of all three of the flavors.

Where can you buy American-style Djarums? [14 Apr 2009|11:41pm]

kissingmyelbow
I've heard that Rokokzone and CloveCigarettesstore.com both sell the Indonesian type, which afaik have less in a pack, are slimmer, and generally contain more tar. Smokes-spirits.com seems to be selling american packs but they don't have the flavors that I'm dying to try (tea, cappuccino) and are more expensive (though perhaps this is balanced out by shipping and not having to pay extra to put in a money order) to boot. Cigarettes around here have gotten waaay expensive lately and I'm trying to be more frugal.

Uh I've misplaced my point. But I want input, is what I want. Thanks.

hello -- i'm a fellow clove addict. (sort of.) i've been smoking Djarum Black for about 2 years now, but only enough to buy a pack every few months. (i'm mainly a social smoker.) love the taste!

unfortunately, i just moved to a place where there are no nearby stores that stock it....or any other clove cigs. *sigh* as i don't want to order an entire carton online, are there any recommendations for other, more commercially available brands with great taste (preferably something with menthol)? i've been told to stay away from Camel No. 9...

My mother lives in Lake County CA, and I visit her during winter, spring, and summer breaks. I'm about to leave Cleveland and continue college and live in San Francisco, where we used to spend a good amount of time in because there is absolutely nothing in Lake.

Does anyone know of any good tobacco shops in the San Francisco/ Bay Area that sell cloves, or more specifically, Djarums? Inb4 'google it,' because I've tried - sites reviewing tobacco shops don't give a lot of examples of what is sold there.

If it so happens someone is looking for something in the east-side Cleveland area, I'd recommend JoVann's Tobacco Shop.

Hit the jackpot [07 Jan 2009|08:02pm]

[ music | Across the desert- mc chris ]

I found a place in NH that sells four packs for $20 so my friend and I recently took advantage of that deal.

1 pack bali hais + 1 pack of splash + 1 pack zanzibar chardonnay + 1 pack of zanzibar twists = clove satifaction

We tried Zanzibars for the first time twists and chardonnays.
Not a huge fan of the twists, but the chardonnays are to die for.

Is it just these packs or is there a common problem with zanzibars that the filters are loose? They also seem very loosely packed. Has anyone else had this problem with zanzibars?

New Here [11 Dec 2008|11:38pm]

Okay - so - hey there. I'm new to this community and new to smoking (two months). Right now I'm trying cloves.

I love Djarum Blacks - who doesn't?

I'm trying Djarum Cherry - not sure if I like it or not. It doesn't taste like cherry or clove to me.

I'm dying to try the cappuccino flavored ones.

Also - probably a stupid question - What makes clove cigarretes crackle when smoked?

EDIT: www.theclovecigarettes.com/kretek-cigarettes-history/

C
love cigarettes crackle when smoked because of the clove oil produced when the leaf burns.

:D Thank you google.

Why did you discontinue my Djarum Vanillas?  You tell everybody in town that I used to buy them from that these new Djarum Golds are the same thing, but THEY'RE NOT.  An old, empty, and summer-baked box of Vanillas from my bedroom floor smells more like a vanilla bean than a new pack of Golds.

Fuck you, Djarum and Kretek International.  Fuck you and the horse you rode in on!

...and yet, I'm buying Bali Hai's because I crave the smooth but "spicy" flavour and that fun crackle.  Well played, Djarum, well played.

Djarum Love Overload ♥ [09 Dec 2008|04:25am]

Hi hi!
...New here *waves* xD
Personally, I find Djarum Black to be quite enticing. I have been smoking them for some time now. However, my palate demands a change of taste every now and then and so I've also come to try Vanilla and Original flavors. I gotta say: I fell in love with the Original [big time!], but sadly, I am having trouble getting them here [apparently it was meant to be a one-time-thing].

In any case, I was searching for them and I came across two websites that some of you fabulous peeps have mentioned on some posts [ http://www.clovecigarettesstore.com/ and http://www.rokokzone.com/ ] . THAT'S how I noticed the Djarum Black Cappuccino. As a Black and Original lover, I'm curious::: is the Cappuccino any good? 'Cuz it sure looks it, but...I'd like to have some opinions before I take the plunge.

Also, shipping rates through http://www.rokokzone.com/ seem to be more reasonable than anywhere else [according to my screen: $5.00 flat rate?!] to the U.S. Is this correct? And if so, how efficient is their s&h?

Thank you guys so much! ♥

Buying cloves in the UK? [01 Dec 2008|04:07pm]

likecharity
Hi, I'm new! My name's Jennifer, I'm nineteen and I live in Leeds, England. I was wondering if anybody had any info on buying cloves in the UK? I used to smoke but gave up a few years back, but I'm really interested in trying cloves now and I have NO idea how to go about finding somewhere that sells them! I'm assuming that newsagents, supermarkets, etc don't stock them, but what about liquor stores? I guess I can always buy online, but I'd prefer not to.

Thanks in advance. :)

Hooray [18 Nov 2008|11:02pm]

Yay I just turned 19 on Sunday I bought my first legal pack of Djarums.

Now, a question.
I bought an "ID case" from Urban Outfitters to hold my ID (of course) but people often mistake it for a cigarette case because it definitely resembles one. Now that I actually have cigarettes though, I wanna put them in the tin. My question is, will they go stale faster in the tin than in their original box?

Also, I bought specials instead of supers by accident...They're just not the same. *Disappointment*

Reputable Online Djarum Black Sellers? [04 Nov 2008|06:48pm]

silkfetus
I'm addicted to Djarum Blacks.

I smoke about a pack a day and I currently pay about $6.50 per pack so I started looking into whether I could buy them online in bulk for cheaper. I found a handful of sites but some of them seem pretty sketchy and it's not always clear whether shipping costs or possible duty fees would end up negating any possible savings. I also had a difficult time finding customer reviews of any of the sites.

Soooo I was hoping someone here has had some experience with buying Djarum Blacks online for cheaper than $6.50 a pack including shipping and whatnot and could give me some recommendations. Searching online I noticed many of the websites sell slightly different versions of Djarum Blacks (longer, thinner, 12-16 per pack instead of 20). Any kind is fine with me as long as it ends up being cheaper in the end.

Thank you!

P.S. I am in California in the United States.
