Approved/Denied/Waiting!!? WHY?

  • Apr. 21st, 2008 at 12:32 PM
There have been a lot of emails lately from either pending members or friends of pending members asking why they've not been allowed into the community. I figured now's a great time to remind everyone why we have a screening process for new members and why it might take so long.

It wasn't too long ago when [info]clothdiapering was a place where people didn't feel safe a lot of the time participating in buying/selling because the chances of them being scammed was rather high. People could set up new journals on a whim, pretend to be selling diapers, take your money, and run, and we had absolutely no recourse.

So, the moderators decided to screen all incoming applicants to prevent this. People with established journals, or with friends already in the community, or with "linkable" feedback elsewhere (ebay, diaperswappers, etc) are approved with very little effort. Sometimes we have to email back and forth a few times to solidify the vouch/feedback, etc, but that's about it. The only people who are generally truly denied are those that have brand new journals with no entries and no activity. We're not denying them to be elitist, but to protect our current membership.

We do have a community ([info]clothmods) where [info]kimmlett posts all current activity in the approval/denial process. There are reasons given for every denial. There is nothing being hidden from anybody.

If you have been denied and you're wondering why, check out [info]clothmods. We never ignore a pending request for membership. There is either acceptance or denial, and if we CAN communicate with people with brand new journals (they must have at least one public entry), we do our best.

Please comment with any questions or concerns.

Edited to add: As a side note, the email address is sometimes a concern. cloth.mods@gmail and clothmods@gmail both come to the same place. Gmail doesn't "recognize" the periods in the username (before the @ sign). So, really, you could send it to c.l.o.t.h.m.o.d.s@gmail.com and it'd get to us!

Member_Feedback or WAHM Posts?

  • Nov. 5th, 2007 at 12:07 PM
Hello all!

Just wanted to know if there's anything you need to talk about? Concerns, suggestions, etc!
Do you need a WAHM spot? Let me know here!
Do you need a [info]member_feedback post? Let me know here!

Also, remember there's [info]clothmods available to you, too.

A note: If you request a member feedback post and I say "okay!" and you don't get a response back from me that there is a post ready for you within 12 hours, please respond back to me to poke me to get it up. Sometimes, between my full-time job and my 2 1/2 year old, I get distracted somewhere between your first comment and my intent to go set up the post. Thanks :)

Just so everyone is aware, this community's setting is "Friends Only." This does not mean that the community is closed, this is an open community for anyone to join. This just means that the posts will be Friends only and only viewable to members of the community. This is because of some trolls and spammers that we must do this.

If you have been lurking, please join our community, we encourage you to lurk to read up on cloth diapering. There is lots of information in this community that is VERY useful and very detailed, come read!

For the protection and security of our community members this commnunity is also moderated membership. Please understand that if you are denied for any reason into the community to feel free to contact us, so that we can work with you. If you think that you may be denied, have a community member send us an email to vouch for you, this will help speed things along.

If you have any questions or concerns email us at cloth.mods@gmail.com!

Wondering why you were declined or haven't been accepted yet?? Check out [info]clothmods to help get your questions answered!

Note from comod....

I have become the background moderator. I read, I rarely post or comment, and I usually only post to make a mod reminder. I know that isnt a very good example of a mod. I really wish I could get to know you all and have the friendships with you that [info]kimmlett has with you all.

And I would love to be participating more in this community but I have had a lot of personal issues that had to be dealt with and are still in the process of it. [info]marshmallowgoo I have not forgotten about emailing you. I hope to be able to become one of those really friendly sociable mods here really soon. I really miss partaking in the love that is cloth. =)

SO I apologize to anyone who thinks I'm just a stickler, hard ass, quite mod who is all about rules and following them. I'm not really... I just can only do a small reminder post every now and again before I have things to take care of.

I do miss you all very much. You are all wonderful people.

And, unfortunately on that note.... lol....
Can you all remember to try and put pictures behind an LJ cut? The past few weeks I've seen a bit more than usual.

Chemicals in disposables?

  • Jun. 24th, 2005 at 9:09 AM
Does anyone know where I can get information on the chemicals commonly found in disposable diapers from a website that isn't trying to sell something as an alternative?

Anywhere that I have read about chemicals in disposables, it doesn't cite the reference and they all have a financial interest in you wanting an alternative.

I guess I'm looking for something unbiased and credible.

Nighttime diapering

  • Jun. 23rd, 2005 at 9:25 PM
We're pretty much down to 2 disposables a day, one at night and one in the morning when I can pretty much count on a HUGE messy poop. I'm wanting to phase out these as well as my confidence in cloth grows. I'm reluctant to give up the nighttime disposable because I haven't yet had to change Izzy in the middle of the night and any sleep these days (nights) is very precious.

I'm curious about nighttime diapers, I have made some microfleece & PUL pocket diapers that I use with a Chinese prefold (although my hemp french terry and organic velour yardage is arriving this week!) and I'm continually surprised at how well they keep her dry.

What do you use for a nighttime diaper? Do you need to change diapers during the night?

Oh jeez, I've only been doing this for two weeks, and I'm already getting enough dipes I can afford to start being picky with my stash.

I have 6 4 large white FB, 2 large orange FB (pending), 1 large yellow FB (sold) and 1 large butter-yellow FB (pending) that I am looking to sell off. I recieved them never before used as seconds (the leg elastic is slightly asymetrical, but it doesn't seem to affect sizing or performance, they are great) They each have been used maybe 4 times total. No staining that I can see.

I like them, I just want all my FB to be lime green or turquoise. (like I said, I'm getting picky) I am asking $9 ppd for each of them, but go ahead and make an offer. I like to dicker. :) You can reach me at amber.egbert@gmail.com or comment here.

Thanks in advance!

Sweetcheeks fitted diapers suck. I bought one off of ebay because it was on sale for just like $4, and I'm poor, so I thought it was worth a try. First of all, it's only 2 layers of flannel thick. That's it. And the insert is just 2 more layers. That's it. Or at least that's all it feels like 4 layers of flannel isn't nearly thick enough for a diaper, so she just has to *think* about peeing and the whole entire thing is soaked. She's never able to wear it more than 10 minutes, 15 tops. I don't know if it's just not quality flannel or what, but I bought another off e-bay from a WAHM that's so much thicker and cushier and more absorbent out of flannel, and this Sweetcheeks diaper feels about as thick as the flannel sheets on my bed. And to top it off, that clear stuff they use around the legs to make them stretchy, that leaves red marks on her legs. It was a total waste of my $4 + s/h.

Ok, sometimes I have to admit, I'm lazy. My daughter is still in a disposable at night and when we go away for more than 2 days, I put her in disposables also. I'm a bad cloth mama.

However! I've been using the environmentally friendly dipes, Tushies for those occasions.

So my question is thus...tushies are just eh for us, I mean, they're good for what they're for, which is perpetuating my laziness while allowing me the minimal amount of guilt possible...but have any of you ever tried 7th generation sposies or tendercare? How do they compare to tushies?

I'm running low and need to place an order tonight...help!

For Sale

  • Jun. 23rd, 2005 at 4:14 PM
More Kissaluvs! These are a little more than the others I listed because they were purchased new, still have great elastic, and are colors/limited edition. Plus they're all fleece which I prefer to the fleece/terry combo:

-4 size 2 in sky blue
-3 2 remaining size 2, white, with primary rainbow serging around the edges - these 3 are seconds, meaning the tag is cut and marked, but the lifetime snap attachment from kissaluvs still applies, and like all of their seconds, I can't for the life of me see what's wrong with them. I actually like them better than the others, because I'm nuts about rainbow serging and it's so hard to find in Kissaluvs.

A couple of these have faint staining inside - nothing gross. It may or may not sun out, I'm in South Florida and (welcome to Paradise) it's been storming for 2 weeks straight, with nothing but rain in our 10 day forecast. Anyhow, I'm asking $7 each, ppd. If you take all 6 that are left you can have them for $40 ppd :) These really are adorable on, and I'm kind of sorry to see them go...but I'm clearing out anything we can spare for new-baby-diaper funds, and Isaac has A LOT of diapers.

New Wool

  • Jun. 23rd, 2005 at 2:05 PM
I have a new wool cover that was hand-knitted. The knit is kind of loose and it most definitely will not be waterproof in its condition. Do I just wash it? Machine? Temp? I also need to buy some wool-wash. Can you spam me with some WAHMs that make it?

Thanks

So ever since DH got his new job, I have been buying diapers like a madwoman. They have pretty much overtaken an entire corner of our bedroom. My three year old has actually FALLEN ASLEEP in my pile of prefolds.

So, my question to all you CD veterans is, how do you organize your stash? Especially a mixed stash? We have pockets, fitteds, covers, and prefolds. I dont use a changing table since I am paranoid that my babe will roll off. . do you think they need their own dresser?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

So last night I had to go take a glucose test and get a rhogam shot since I am O- bloodtype. When I got home DH went on to say that he had to change 2 poopy diapers... Yeah, so. Then he says, "we didn't have any wipes so I had to use these cloth things", and points to the wipes container full of my cloth wipes. I smiled and said, "Don, those ARE the wipes." He looked at me so bewildered :) We started CDing just a few months ago and we had a bunch of disposable wipes and I only had a handful of cloth ones anyway. Now I have a whole tub full of them so I can actually use them. Boys are so funny :)
