My first cloth pads (show and tell)

I've been wanting to switch to cloth pads for a while now and I've finally gotten around to making them. Since my flow is relatively light and short I didn't use any PUL layers and just made 8 to start.

My pads let me show you them )

I still have to get snaps for the wing liners, but I'm very happy with how they turned out! I used the pattern I found here at Sdahy's cloth pad patterns. It's a great tutorial and a great pattern!

Question about liners

Has anyone used vinyl instead of PUL?  I have a old vinyl mattress cover that I am thinking about cutting into to made some liners.  If you have used this I would like to know how it holds up in the laundry.   It already sounds a little crinkly, so if I use a small piece of it will I be making noises when I move around?:)   If I use PUL I will have to order online and I am not sure what is the weight of PUL to use, they have a 1 and 2 weights.  Thanks in advance.

Folded Pads

at September 5th, 2008 (10:50 pm)

Hi,
Today I sewed a folding pad.  I saw one on a website and decided to make mine extra long to wear at night.  When folded it has six layers of flannel and it is 12" long x 3" wide when snapped.  I won't get to try it till my next cycle.  Here are the pics.  I am going to make one with a terrycloth liner for heavy flow.

In-stock sale from Moonlady

EDIT: SOLD!

Hey, everybody! I have a few pads to offer on sale here. I have changed the shape of my patterns and these are the old shape- I want to clear them out.

The three large ones are all a bit irregular, although not as irregular as they look in the pic... something weird happened when I took the pic from above. The small pads are not irregular, but the pic made them look weird too... I don't know what happened there, but I don't care much because hey, this is a sale. Comment if you want some of these. Being irregular doesn't keep them from working :)

The large pads are all long maxi pads. They are 9 inches long, good for medium to heavy flow, and have a layer of PUL to prevent leaks. The small pads are short mini pads; they are 8 inches long, good for light to medium flow, with no PUL. Both types of pads have fleece backing, which helps to prevent leaks and keeps the pads from sliding around. The absorbent bits on all the pads are cotton.

The long maxi pads are $5.50 each plus shipping. The short mini pads are $4.50 each plus shipping. Shipping costs inside the US are as follows:

Purchase of $1.00- $20.00: $2.00 shipping
Purchase of $20.01-$30.00: $2.50 shipping
Purchase of $30.01 or above: FREE shipping!

If you want international shipping, I'll have to calculate that for you. But I'm glad to do so!

If you are in Houston TX, you don't need to pay shipping, we can meet somewhere (in either the Heights, downtown, or midtown) and exchange. :)

Cleaning cloths

I bought some cleaning cloths the other day, they're about 5mm thick and very absorbent.  I'm not sure what they're made of or what they may have been treated with.  Would these be suitable to use as an absorbent core in my future cloth pads?  I would put them through the washing machine first, and I'll have at least one layer of flannel between me and the core, but can anyone foresee any dangers?

Cloth pads

I am new to cloth pads and haven't used them yet but have ordered some from different people.  I noticed the ones that I have bought are rather narrow and tend to bunch up my underwear.  I was wondering if this was the norm.  I'm planning on making these to send to Nicaragua with our mission team to hand out to women.  I'm a small girl and am thinking if they do this to me they will definately do this to bigger women.  I have bought from Vajpads, countycloth (I think), and aprilm.  I think they are great otherwise, although might be a litle hot with flannel.  Please let me know what you think.  I'm also working myself up to using the ladycup I bought as the diva was too big.

seconds

I've been sewing my butt off in an attempt to get decent enough at handsewing and have a grasp enough on my patterns to be able to open a small etsy store sometime by the end of this calendar year, and i've already made a couple of seconds that i don't need for my own stash. so, if anyone would like a pad/liner and a liner/booster, they're up for grabs.

thseconds galore! well, two seconds anyway... )

if you're interested first person to comment gets either or both. i just don't have any need for them and i'm afraid i'm going to have a stack of seconds before i have a enough that are just normally 'eccentric' to open my store lol.

Any idea how long it takes for aprilmdesigns to ship pads? I'm not in a rush, but I ordered some and I'm excited to get them. They'll be my first ones.
