Subject:Cleaning aplix
Time:11:51 am
Does anyone know an easy way to clean the hooky side of aplix? Other than painstakingly picking out the gunk with a needle I can't think of a way to do it. I've got some Nature Babies Diddy Diapers I want to sell but the aplix is full of fluff and looks minging.

Subject:Flats/prefolds
Time:10:28 pm
All I have are prefolds, but HRH is getting so mobile - crawling, cruising, climbing - that they're becoming.. not useless, because we haven't had any leaks, but they're not exactly staying put within the wrap. Liners, now they are becoming crinkly and useless :p

To anyone who's also used them, can you recommend any decent means of folding for a toddler? With or without pins/nippas? Or should I think about using them in pockets??

Yes, I have been a very unadventurous cloth user, but it has worked until now *lol*

Subject:hemp
Time:04:57 pm
I need some hemp inserts for pocket nappies, or better yet some hemp flats/prefolds to use as inserts. Any links to online sources for these items with decent prices? I am in Ireland. I have found inserts on babykind.co.uk, but want to shop around a little bit.

Thanks:)

Time:01:27 pm
The wee one's first birthday approaches, and while I'm notoriously stingy (witness the boring prefolds that adorn her gorgeous little bum) I'm tempted to buy her something special for the busy summer party circuit *lol* A nice dress/nappy set or something like that?

There appear to be a zillion people selling these online, but I'm sure some of you have your favourites in terms of look, price, quality, poo catching ability etc etc. Pretty please could you share?

Ta muchly!!

Subject:Charity Raffle to raise money for SANDS
Time:01:57 pm

Hope its ok to post this here!

I am running a charity raffle custom slot for shorties/crops/board shorts to raise some money for SANDS (Stillbirth and Neo Natal Death support charity) tickets are available at the bargain price of $2 each through my HC store.
I've requested funded pp only please so that I can give 100% of the proceeds to SANDS rather than losing % to paypal fees!

Currently there is nothing else listed on my store so hoping its ok to have posted this here - still quite a few tickets left and the raffle ends on 17th April so I need some extra support!

The yarn for the winner is BFL and was hand dyed by Kraftykoala in her gorgeous "Sunflowers" colourway, the yarn alone is worth £16 and I am giving my time entirely for free to knit it up into the winners choice of cloth nappy cover. Finished item will be lanolised and ready to use.
If anyone has any questions then you can contact me at

Good luck to anyone who enters and thanks for looking!

Subject:pre-washing advice, please:)
Time:08:14 pm
Hello!

I have (hopefully) just completed my newborn stash, hooray!

Now I need some advice on prepping and pre-washing everything. I know this gets asked all the time in [info]clothdiapering but wanted to ask for some specific advice using products I have available on my particular items.

I live in Ireland, have a front loading washer. I have been using Tesco 'Naturally' brand detergent lately, and often I also use a local natural brand. I also have Napisan. I have a tumble dryer as well as a clothesline.

The items I need to prep are:

-assorted pocket nappies: mostly Swaddlebees, some Happy Heinies, Nature Babies, Fuzzibuns, and Slinki Minkis, all brand new, mixed snaps and aplix

-inserts: microfibre, printed cotton flannel, and hemp, also some ordinary microfibre cloths, all new

-wipes: printed cotton flannel, ordinary face cloths, all new

-general baby clothes and accessories

I would really appreciate any advice on prepping everything and general washing, temps and how many washes, and recommendations for detergents (I shop at Tesco and natural foods shop). Also advice on a wipes solution for my wipes warmer, homemade or otherwise.

Lay your knowledge on me! I would love to have as much info as possible so I can put this in my memories and refer to it later. Thanks so much!

Apologies in advance if this is prying too much, but may I ask how much water you ladies go through? Usage, not cost, of course.

Reason being that we're switching to a meter based on our local company's DIY usage calculator and now I'm getting cold feet. We can switch back to rates within 12 months if it doesn't work out, but hassle, yadda yadda..

For our part, we're 2 adults plus 9mo bub. We wash most dishes in the sink and run the slimline dishwasher a couple of times a week. 1-2 showers a day between us, bath the wee one every other day. Garden/car water generally comes from the water butts.

hello again.
Does anyone de-pill their longies or will this make them less effective over time? Can't decide whether or not to take a wool shaver to a pair of my daughter's.

hi,
I'm new to lj and my first post is a beg...
Can anyone recommend a really fast-drying nappy that isn't too expensive? At the moment I seem to spend all my time washing and tumble drying my nappies as they take forever to dry hanging up inside and the weather's too rank to hang them out.. I don't really want to spend a lot per nappy unless it's unavoidable as my son is going to be potty training soon and I'll only have 1 in nappies then so can go back to 3 or 4 washes a week with no urgency to get them dry. At the moment I'm using a combination of microfleece-stuffed wonderoos, motherease one-size, flat terries and a hotchpotch of homemade fitted ones, all of which (except the flats) seem to take forever to dry. I'm really looking for some quick drying fitteds that I can use at night or if I'm out and that'll dry (preferably without going crispy) in a couple of hours on a radiator or overnight if I bung them on an airer as I hate using my washer dryer to dry them. It can take up to 5 hours to get them dry in there, which is not only bad for my electricity bill and the environment but means I find it difficult to get any other washing done and (as it's overheated in the past so I don't like to leave it) next to impossible to get out.

Mods please remove if not appropriate :-)

I'm moving house next month so being very brave and destashing *sob* The nappies are listed here. Postage to be added at cost or free if you buy more than one.

There are some WAHM's, Berryplush, pockets, fitteds, PUL wraps and a wool wrap. A range of sizes from small to large and a mixture of boyish and girly nappies :-)

Subject:Wiping out wraps
Time:12:14 pm
My 7mo daughter seems to be getting through our wraps at a rate of knots at the moment - we've got poo squidged right up to the back elastic of our nature babies wraps practically every time, and, with only 7 of them, that means extra washes just so we've got enough for her.
Anyone got any tips for how I can avoid this? Am I just being lazy and not changing her enough, or is there something tricky you can rig up with liners to catch it all?
(We're mostly using nature babies wraps with cotton prefolds, if that helps. I have a couple of tots bots bamboozles, and a couple of lollipop fleeces, but we don't seem to get the same problem with them)

We have been using shaped nappies (Thirsties and Tots Bots) with wraps (Thirsties) since birth with Elisha. The time has finally come where I need to order next size nappies for her.

We love the Thirsties, but I am finding myself entertaining the idea of a pocket nappy perhaps. Looking at Bum Genius, Fuzzibunz, and Itti bitti D'lish

Any thoughts or reccomendations? Did you go from a 2 part system to pockets and hate it? Love it? Used a mix of both?
