Two things really stand out to me on his statement:
1) "It's a congregation that does not merely preach social justice but acts it out each day, through ministries ranging from housing the homeless to reaching out to those with HIV/AIDS"
You mean that disease the U.S. Government propagated on the blacks according to Reverend Wright?
2) After reading his entire statement, he denounces his pastor's statements, but still keeps Reverend Wright on his campaign.
This is the change Barack has been promising?

Too little too late
1. Wright's "retirement" happened at the same time as Barack's campaign was kicking into full gear. Coincidence much?
2. Barack chose to have Wright perform his wedding ceremony and baptize his daughters. It's not like an accidental association. This guy was his mentor!
3. If Hillary (or even McCain) were associated with a white church that preached against lazy, no-account black folk, their political careers would be over.
I feel that the MSM, for whatever its reasons - white liberal guilt (although I don't think they're really that liberal)? ratings from young audiences? or maybe they just like the tingling feeling that Obama gives them in their legs - has been in the tank for Obama. My former TV boyfriend Anderson Cooper said on his show last night, "But is this really such a big deal?" If they can make it go away, they will.
I remember when Jesse Jackson's campaign was sunk by the Farrakhan association and "Hymietown" and "Jews are a gutter religion" remarks. I guess we're past all that, huh? Obama is so above racial politics.
I might be more inclined to take a charitable view of this latest kerfluffle if Barack's campaign hadn't been playing the race card for months. Now, as his minister would say, the chickens have come home to roost.
