| | nothing | ] | It's Claude Rains' birthday! Happy happy birthday! The man would have been 118 today. Wow.
So, for the occassion, I have a Claude Rains marathon planned out. Unfortunately, I left quite a few of my movies at home. My line up today shall be:
1) Invisible Man 2) Robin Hood 3) Mr. Smith Goes to Washington 4) The Wolf Man 5) Phantom of the Opera 6) The Unsuspected
I'm watching them in chronological order.
The movies I left at home are:
*Casablanca *Mr. Skeffington *Notorious *The Sea Hawk *Now, Voyager
I'm particularly sad about forgetting Casablanca. Oh well. I'm happy with what I have.
Here's to the b-day boy! *raises a toast* The world won't see your like again, and it's the world's loss. We miss you, so today we'll celebrate the awesomeness of you!
So, I'm off to pop popcorn and stuff and let the party begin!!! Too bad I don't have cake....*shrug*
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CLAUDE RAINS!!!!

EINHORN: So where is Finkle, now?
ACE: He broke out of a mental hospital. Did a Claude Rains.
Unfortunately, as seems to happen often, Claude's name was spelled "Raines" in the script :\ |

| | Sunrise in Paradise *Chill* | ] | I was watching M*A*S*H yesterday and there was a line I thought I'd share ^_^
Klinger had gotten grazed with a bullet. It was just a scratch but the way he was acting you'd think he would keel over at any given moment. Hawkeye was patching him up.
Klinger: I've lost my sense of touch! Maybe I have that thing that Betty Davis had in Mr. Skeffington!
Hawkeye Hang on I'll get Claude Rains.
I laughed out loud when I heard that. Made my morning for sure. |

Back on Claude's birthday I had asked my aunt to tape some of the movies on TCM for me. She forgot, but to make it up to me she bought me "The Clairvoyant" for my birthday recently. Boy, was I excited when I saw that! I've watched it a bunch of times, and I highly recommend it to any Claude fans who haven't seen it. |

The clue was the year and a hint as to what the movie was.
There was this clue:
1933 Claude Rains
Now, we all now what that is right? I yelled out in less than a second "INVISIBLE MAN!!"
I couldn't believe my ears when my mom said none of the contestants knew the answer!!! That's horrible! |

1. apple's i-tunes music store is now selling for 1.99 episodes of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" for the video ipod. Among the episodes? "And So Died Riabouchinska". Even if you don't have the video ipod, you can still download it to you itunes music library and watch it on your PC. DSL line or better to download with ease.
2. Warner Bros. Errol Flynn collection..You can buy as a boxset or individual. The Flynn flick "Dodge City" has among its "Night at the Movies" bonus feature selection the Claude Rains technicolor short subject, "Sons of Liberty".
Ladies, Claude with a ponytail........... ; )

| | chipper | ] | Does anyone remember that game show "Degrees of Separation", where you had to link people together by a certain number of degrees? Well, my mom is always playing that, saying "I've met this actress, and she's worked with this actor, so I'm connected to that actor!" Well, I found out today that my great grandfather on my mother's side used to hang out with Eddie Fisher, who was in "All About Eve" with Bette Davis, and Bette Davis was in "Now, Voyager" with Claude Rains. So that's 4 degrees!
Anyone else wanna give the game a try? |

I'm really choked up as, A. I LOVE John Jasper and the whole darn movie B. He looks so cute (and tortured) in all of these cards. What a collectors item!!
I wish I had money. Like a truckload of it. I'd make wax effigys of all my heroes, including Claude in my own theatre house.

Our friend was born this day in 1889. For more info, see the link above. ^_^
The Invisible Man
QUOTES
**The Invisible Man : The whole world's my hiding place!
**The Invisible Man : Would you mind getting the car? It's a bit cold outside, when you have to go about naked.
**The Invisible Man : The fools wouldn't let me work in peace. I had to teach them a lesson.
**The Invisible Man : [to Kemp] I shall kill you even if you hide in the deepest cave of the Earth. At ten o'clock tomorrow night, I will kill you!
**The Invisible Man : Power - to make the multitudes run squealing in terror!
TRIVIA
Boris Karloff had been the studio's original choice for the role of the Invisible Man, but James Whale wanted someone with more of an "intellectual" voice. Claude Rains was Whale's first and only choice.
In order to achieve the effect that Claude Rains wasn't there when his character took off the bandages, the director had Rains dressed completely in black velvet and filmed him in front of a black velvet background.
The Wolf-Man
QUOTES
**Sir John Talbot : Even a man who is pure in heart and says his prayers by night, may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms and the autumn moon is bright.
**Sir John Talbot : All astronomers are amateurs. When it comes to the heavens, there's only one professional.
**Sir John Talbot : You policemen are always in such a hurry. As if dead men didn't have all eternity.
**Sir John Talbot : You can't run away.
Larry Talbot : That's it! That's what she said.
Sir John Talbot : Who?
Larry Talbot : The gypsy woman.
Sir John Talbot : Gypsy woman? Now we're getting down to it. She's been filling your mind with this gibberish. This talk of werewolves and pentagrams. You're not a child Larry, you're a grown man and you believe in the superstitions of a Gypsy woman!
Phantom of the Opera
QUOTES
**Enrique Claudin : They've poisoned your mind against me. That's why you're afraid. Look at your lake, Christine. You'll love it here when you get used to the dark. And you'll love the dark, too. It's friendly and peaceful. It brings rest and relief from pain. It's right under the Opera. The music comes down and the darkness distills it, cleanses it of the suffering that made it. Then it's all beauty. And life here is like a resurrection.
**Enrique Claudin : Forgive me, but I have been a part of the Opera for so long. Everybody, everything connected with it, I feel it is so much a part of my life.
So.... Sing a rousing chorus of Happy Birthday, pop some popcorn and raise a glass to the birthday boy! Oh, and don't forget to watch a film staring your best buddy!
Oh! And don't forget to leave a comment and sign this cyber birthday card!
Later peeps!

| [ | Current Music |
| | Rob Zombie | ] | A few my animation alumni grad friends and I are putting together several short films (most likely in clay stop motion)and for one 'Hollywood' type short - I've conned them into throw Claude Rains for kicks.
But I really don't feel like doing the most 'recognizable' characters like Louis Renault or the Invisible Man. I'm trying to hint to design at least Alexander Hollenius cuz he's a hoot or John Jasper, but again, I love all his characters and my buddies aren't going to waste time on designing a character they're not familiar with.
Anyone have suggestions? |
