Can you believe how fast it went?

I stayed in my hometown and attened a community college. Today driving by the road my best friend from high school lives on i found myself suprised at how much time we have spent together. Through the year everytime she was in town i was at her house (sometimes before she even got there) now that she is home from school for the summer we are not spending any time together. I guess most of us are going through this but i just wanted to see how many others are! I feel guilty because now we have time to spend together and i have so many other things i rather do. I guess we are just drifting apart....

So I was just browsing and thinking about this community. How did each one of your first year of either college or work or whatever it is that you did go for you? Did you gain the infamous "freshman fifteen", did you finally break out of your shell and become more outgoing? How was the workload for everyone?

For me I had a blast this year. It's crazy but I can't believe that the first year is over for me just about in a week. Today was the last day of classes and now Finals start on Thursday for us. I must say though that I am going to miss so many people in my dorm, I've made amazing friends and I can't believe that we've only been in school for 9 months but I felt like I knew them my entire life. I must say I didn't change that much though, stayed the same but did become a little bit more outgoing and I didn't gain the freshman fifteen which I must say I am happy about.

I, too, have a question just out of curiosity, haha. We're all done with our first semester/trimester/quarter of college and well underway on our second term (except if you have a short term like me, and you might be on a break between J-term and Spring semester!) We've grown out of our homesickness (hopefully!), made new friends, and are participating in exciting new things.

So now that we all (hopefully) have acclimated and are able to see the pros and cons of our chosen college in a more objective light, who among us is transferring? Hahaha :) It'd be cool just so we could all know we're not alone!

I'll start -- my name is Joy from Chicagoland and I'm officially a sophomore (but I did graduate high school in 2007, I promise I belong here lol) at Hollins University in Roanoke, VA. I'm hoping to transfer to Lawrence University in Appleton, WI for the fall trimester. I'm transferring out because my school is REALLY small (<800 students. My graduating class size from hs > my school's total undergraduate enrollment), I hate the location, find the social life lacking (suitcase school -- at least half of the school leaves on the weekends), and find that a lot (but not all) of the students there are not people I would never associate myself with. Classes are also waaaay easier than they were in high school and that bothers me since the other two colleges I was debating between attending are known for very rigorous and demanding workloads (Bryn Mawr College and Reed College.) Those are just a few of the reasons I'm planning on transferring.

Anyone else? :)

USAFA BCT was SICK. It was freaking hard, but overall, it was fun. I enjoyed it :)

I got to shoot M16 rounds at targets, and then in Scnario Warrior Ops, I got to shoot M16 blanks at my friends and at "terrorists". I worked a CEP and got to kill a sucide bomber, i got to crowd surf, sit in a plane with people and watch them jump out of it, do the obstacle and assualt courses, diving for grenades and crawling under barbed wire with small arms fire... USAFA is not a normal college... its hard but fun. The Ac year ain't so bad either, you have friends here for life, ive only been in CO since late june, and I've already made lifelong friends and had unforgettable times. You should transfer to USAFA next year... but yea.

Anyways even though ive been in "college" for a while, a bunch of you are starting tomorrow, and i just wanted to say good luck.
Guaranteed Admission

So...

I never posted about UVM Orientation that happened in the beginning of June, though it was fun.

I never posted about finally graduating at the end of June, though it was good.

I never posted about anything else at all, until now.

Today, I received in the mail a letter (and a little more) from Cornell, telling me that I'll have guaranteed admission to the university in the Fall of 2008, as long as I make sure to follow all sorts of guidelines during my 2007–2008 school year at UVM. And it specifically states that AP scores accepted at UVM may not be accepted at Cornell (I'm going to check on those when I'm finished typing this) and placing out of a course at UVM does not fulfill the Cornell requirements. Which means that if Cornell doesn't accept my AP scores, but UVM accepts them to place out of courses that Cornell requires, I'll have to take them again at UVM anyway.

Plus, I don't even know if I want to go to Cornell. The letter mentions that the form is non-binding, but I'd still have to take Cornell's required courses, just in case. Here's my real dilemma: Cornell is a prestigious school, and it'd be cheaper for me to go there because we're both in New York. But I've never actually been to Cornell, I don't know what it looks like, I don't know what the people are like. And they don't have the exact major that I'm about to major in at UVM (Molecular Genetics). Instead, I'd have to major in "Biological Sciences"... gee, isn't that specific? And the deadline for the form is August 1.

I don't know what I want to do. I mean, I'll send in the form... it'll only cost me the 41 cents to mail. But I don't know what I'll do after that. Any suggestions?
