Quandry!

Alright...I'm racking my brain here and I'm at my wits end. I am a new so please bare with me. I have a lvl 43 Grav/Kin troller and I have many,many questions like...

Epic Power Pool Sets:

The two that I fancy for my guy is Primal or Fire...I like Primal more b/c on the Power Boost, Energy Attack, and the Temp Invul. I know you might say "You don't need it!1!" but I am SOOO tired of getting killed from 1 or 2 hits when teaming.

Fire-Nice damage and visuals but I only need Fireball. The other powers really don't do me any good. I have transfusion!

Also about Respec. I want to take out Propel (Cool animation but it takes too long and it slows me down on a good team) I wanted to replace Propel with one of the damage dealing attacks in the Epic set.

Should I get rid of Siphon speed? I love it so much but I'm afraid by 50 I will not have space for Acrobatics and Tactics which I don't have right now.

I just want him to be able to stay in the game longer than 1 hit AND I want him to be able to hit something much more often.

BTW: I skipped Inertial, Propel, Increase Density and Dimension Shift.


I'm sorry for the long post but I am going nuts! Why did I pick a troller for my first toon?! *dies*

OK, I'm being dense..........

or I'm very tired. Either way I can't figure it out.

After a relatively successful dxp weekend I manged to get my major toon to lvl 40 but I also managed to get both my minor toons to a decent level including my spine/regen scrapper to a level where I can replace all his nasty horrible AO, SO & DO with shiny new IO. And with the aid of my major hero and an inf injection this is possible.

Now I'm trying to map this using the mids' hero designer so I can see what I need to buy in recipes and salvage. But for the life of me I can't figure it out. I can remember what order the power choices went in but not the slots and I can't figure out how to apply lvl 20 IOs to those powers

Any experienced Mids' users want to lend a hand to someone who is completely lost.

If I wake up and still can't figure it out then I'm doing a manual planning on paper!! And no one wants that!!

They nerfed *Brawl*???

Okay, this one kinda takes the cake. Reading the notes on the latest patch I read the following gem:

• Brawl - Animation time corrected. Old cast time was 0.67 seconds, and the new cast time is 0.83 seconds.

Because, as we all know, Brawl is way overpowered and gets abused so much.

I mean seriously. W.T.F?

Alt Ideas

I'd like to wait until next year before rolling up any more alts, but that might not happen. But before I DO roll them up, I'd like some input on the sets, and combinations of sets.

/Devices for blasters seems like a somewhat controllery set, so I might enjoy that, but what primary goes really well with it? (I have a level 50 ice/ice/elec blaster, and the only reason I enjoy her, I think, is because she's like a really high-damage pseudo-controller.)

/Traps for corruptors and masterminds seem similar to devices, though they get a healing object and some powers come later. Any thoughts on /Devices compared to /Traps? What corruptor and mastermind primaries would you suggest go well with /Traps?

I'm also thinking of making a /storm mastermind.. sounds fun. I should note that I've played a bots/dark MM to level 50, and I had a thugs/dark MM for about four levels before deleting her. I'm not against the idea of playing the other MM sets, but I think I may have been spoiled; before teaming with FB, AF and Lag I didn't even know MM pets could be confused. "Egads!" I thought, "How horrible!" So... not that I want to only play bots/ MMs, but .. yeah.

So! Feedback on these sets and possible combinations is most appreciated! :)

Energy Melee Gets a Little Less Uber

All versions of Energy Melee are getting the following changes in the new patch:

  • New Animation/FX for Energy Melee - Energy Transfer [goes from the 1 second it is now to 2.67 seconds]
  • Total Focus: All player versions of Total Focus Disorient Magnitude reduced to 3.

    Lighthouse reminds people to keep comments based on actual testing of how the changes work, rather than "oh noes, DOOM."

    Fort order?

    So, I'm getting back into the swing of playing a support character, but I have one general question (and I know it's circumstantial and up for debate, but I want to hear the opinions).

    In general, Fort can usually only be slapped on two teammates reliably, three if hastened. Going by archetype and team roles, who do you usually slap the Fort on? I can think of lots of arguments for most anyone to want it, I'd like to hear who you guys think needs it. The tank? The blasters and scrappers? Heck, give a defender or controller a little edge?

    It's up to discretion, and sometimes I pass it around based on the fight, but it wasn't until yesterday I had a tank insist I keep it on him. What's good form?

    How should I slot Mutate?

    I currently have three slots allocated, one Rech and two EndMod, but I'm wondering if the extra recovery rate is worth it. Any suggestions?

    Coercive Persuasion: Contagious Confusion

    The purple confuse set looks to be one of the most affordable of the purples, so when my troller hits 47, I expect that I'll want to slot it.

    But what precisely does the proc do? Neither the in-game description when I look it up at Wentworth nor the ParagonWiki page give many details, such as its range.

    What I'm really wondering is, ignoring set bonuses, what are the tradeoffs between sticking this proc in Confuse (single target) versus Mass Confusion (AoE)? Putting it into Confuse would presumably turn it into fast-recharging Mass Confusion Lite, which is certainly very desirable. But sticking it into Mass Confusion would hopefully produce a feedback effect, which might be important against hi con baddies.

    Thoughts?

    PVP MA/SR SCRAPPER?

     I have a lvl 50 MR/SR scrapper and i made him just for pvp, and im thinking of respecing but im not sure if i should or not, i need help with this, he is pretty good in pvp but i still have the problem with my endurance dropping, and also i have my defence slotted to the max, but no matter how much i try to stop this problem it doesent help, im not sure what i should do so i have come to you to give ur opinion. here is a low down on what i have,

    all attacks are 5 slotted with 3 dam,1 acc, 1 end reduction

    my defence is all 6 slotted with all defence buffs, with some powers having end reduction and recharge speed.

    i have SUPER JUMP,
    BODY MASTERY with 4 slotted end reduction and accuracy with 2 end reduction and 2 to-hit buffs

    INVISIBILITY
     

    and FIGHTING with 4 slots on each all with defence buffs

    im trying to find out what i need to improve or change, this is my pvp scrapp,so please help me on what i need or dont need.

    Ex-calibur, mark 2So... I rerolled Ex-calibur on Champion as a Broadsword/Fire scrapper (he was originally BS/Super Reflexes on Victory).

    He's 17 now, and I've only just been able to bump the difficulty up one level. At 17, Okagi (Katana/Dark) was already running on the 2nd highest. Operative Rache was running on the second highest since he was a baby.

    Broadsword is slow going until you can get some decent (SO or IO) END reducers slotted, but Fire seems to be the weak link here.

    Am I missing something, or is Fire a really weak secondary? I've taken flight as my travel power, but it looks like I'm going to need to respec out of it and into super jumping for a bit of extra +DEF and knockback protection. There's almost no mez proctection in the set (you can break Immobilize and that seems to be it).

    Any hints/suggestions from the /fire scrappers and fire/ tanks?

    I guess I do have epic pools, after all...

    My main toon, Archimagos (Mind/Emp troller) just hit 41! So I'm faced with choosing what Epic pool to get!

    On the one hand, in recent missions I've been going up against Rikti, whose Mentalists and Mesmerists have been handing Archimagos his buttocks of late. So this tells me that I probably want to go for Psionic Mastery to get Indomitable Will.

    On the other hand, I really like the idea of being able to do more damage, which makes Fire Mastery and Primal Forces attractive. Oh, and the endurance mitigating powers in both of those are attractive, too.

    So...thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    Epic pools, looking for some advise.

    I searched thorugh the forum but didnt find what I was looking for so I am posting.

    So I got my Science Fire/Rad toon Smallpox to 47 and have been playing the Fire epic a little (Just fireball and just took shield) and don't know if I should swap or keep going.

    Have not gotten Consume yet and it looks yummy but Psi is looking good for all the darn Carnies and Rikti

    Primal looks interesting just to do a Power Boosted EMP (does PB work on AM?)


    ARG! I want them all!

    My play style is mainly just with my wifes Energy/Energy Blaster and we are not very go go go we take our time playing.

    Oh and even though I feel I have things slotted great and nice sets I still seem to burn End like mad so may dump my Assault toggle.

    So what experiance do you have to share?

    Strangest Power Combinations?

    So I was thinking of which powersets work with each other and then I was thinking of those power combos which you don't see together as much.

    I have a sonic/Psychic defender that I got to lvl 3 and so far, it's slow going because...well. It doesn't seem to vibe together as much.
    I have a Miasma/Archery Defender that works better and it got to 45. Tar Patch followed by Rain of Arrows is awesome.

    I've been asked a few times with my builds "why?" and my response is always "just because."

    Any power matchups that you think don't work together that you like?

    Another idea for Ancillary Power Pools

    Following up on the idea of something being added to make an Archery Defender more of "a Defender" instead of "A Controller with the wrong symbol".
    I would like to see something like that added, perhaps of a more generic sense like Weapons Mastery; this could be an Epic power catagory added to the tanker, scrapper and those that have the TA/A selections. Also the Blaster Primary choice Assault Rifle. It could give a DESIRED EFFECT to the weapons style the character has. It could involve a minimal change to the weapon's animation such as an aura or colorshift. Not all ideas would work unless you did serious graphic reworking. I.E. your "Barbed weapon" gives the archer a barbed arrow, a swordsman a serrated blade attack or spikes on my Stone hammer. That might make it impractical in that case.

    Options I would like are:

    Stun attack- Causes disorient and Debuff defense on the foe targeted so we can still hit them without removing the effects; Sleep sucks with groups attacking. This will work either as ranged target or melee depending on the weapon.

    Stimulant attack- Gives an ally a boost of End., Hits and Dam. buffs. This will work either as ranged target or melee depending on the weapon.

    Blazing attack- It creates a flare effect on the weapon that gives allies and self a bonus Acc. buff for a limited time.

    Precision attack- an attack not unlike the regular for the weapon, but it gives better damage with an increased chance for a critical.

    Wild Weasel attack- This would be an attack you place (like oil slick) and it triggers a spot that radiates a Taunt effect. It will draw foes and their attacks for a limited time allowing you to take the heat off a bit, and maybe beat a better retreat if needed. Think of it like a stationary pet that doesn't attack.

    None of these would imbalance the game but would give some nice variation to character types which can get monotonous by the upper levels.

    Ancillary Power Pool Idea

    This idea came to me yesterday, and I thought I'd share it. It is intended for defenders, especially for the Trick Arrow /Archery defenders who would like to continue the bow & arrow theme. I mostly did this for fun; I don't expect this to really be implemented but it was an interesting exercise for me.

    If we could revamp Force Field...

    I know this was discussed long, long ago, but I figured I'd sit down and really try to come up with something realistic. Not that I think that the devs would ever revamp a set like this, but! Force Field, as much as I love it, is in some ways a weak defender primary. Personal Force Field is nice, and then it's generally accepted that you take the two ally shields and the dispersion bubble. Opinions differ on force bold, repulsion bubble, repulsion bomb and force bubble - but in any case, why on EARTH does FF need *three* foe knockback powers?! It's not like they do knock back/push AND something else.. one of them also has a minor disorient but that's it. Besides, wouldn't it be cool if there was a bubble controller primary? So I've split up the force field set between what I think should go in a controller primary and a defender primary, and then filled in the rest. Feedback is most welcome! Read more... )

    FF Question & Liz art

    It's time to pick a new power for Lady Andrea, my Grav/FF controller, but I'm confused about the Repulsion Bomb power that's available at Level 35 in the FF secondary.  I read a guide on the official forums that said this power was recently changed to work as an AOE stun that's targeted on an enemy.  The in-game text still says that it repels foes from around a targeted ally (making it ever so popular power to use on tankers and scrappers, I can imagine).  With the test server in closed beta, there's no way I can try it out to see.  Does anyone know which description is correct?

    Also, I took up Liz ([info]syrusb) on her sketch offer, and here's one she just completed for me of Lady Andrea.  So awesome. :)
