Hey folks! If you're not aware, Paragon Studios is looking for player-made videos, as per TheOcho on the boards there. I know we have quite a few great demo manipulators in the comm, and I'm here to offer my services as a one-man band. Inspired by Kim Vermilion, I've taken on the challenge of trying to write and record one song per week this year. I'm 37 songs into the year, and I need some inspiration to finish out the remaining 15, so if you'd like some original instrumental guitar/bass/drum music (that I retain full rights and creative control over, of course), let me know and we'll hammer out the details via email (use my livejournal email address. I have a paid account, so it's not hard to figure out). ( details to follow the cut )

Again, I'm really looking for an excuse to write 15 more new songs rather than re-work old ones. But hey, it's a free service, and I know we've got a lot of great video artists here, so shoot me an email and we'll get started!

Just got back from seeing it (and geeking out about it for another couple of hours afterwards with friends).

No spoilers, but here's what I said to my friends as the end credits finished up.

"Y'know, I know there was a private screening for this movie where Stan Lee was in attendance. And despite his advanced years, well.... *Ahem*

(Does Stan Lee voice) 'Who. Needs. VIAGRA?!?!! I just NEED MORE OF _THIS_!!!!!!' "

mildly off-topic, but I just thought the whole "cape" thing was funny as heck, and I actually reconsidered getting a cape for one of my characters afterward.

anyhoo I think the movie was pretty good -- the hero quartet kinda mimicks the Fantastic Four but definitely has its own unique-ness (and a lot of effects reminded me of CoH as I was watching it)

Opinions anyone?

I know I wasn't the only one converting everything I saw into CoH equivalents, or wondering if Cryptic could have done a cross-promotion with The Incredibles. Some random thoughts follow.

Non-spoiler review for "The Incredibles".

In a word, and really, this time the cliché is true... Incredible.

If you've ever played City of Heroes, watch this movie.

If you've ever read a superhero comic in your life, watch this movie.

If you've ever watched a 1960s spy movie, watch this movie.

If you've never done any of these things, watch this movie.

Seriously.

Exciting. Funny. Touching. Triumphant.

Best. Movie. I've. Seen. All. Year. Beats Spider-Man 2 hands down.

I want to watch it again. Several times.

For my fellow CoH players. You will be looking at the characters and figuring out their CoH AT and power equivalents in your head. I guarantee it. At one point, you will be shouting, "Yes! Ice Patch!" You will want a Mr. Incredible character model. You will want to petition the devs for a travel power for ice manipulation, and think of whether stretching is a scrapper or defender power set.

I want the DVD now.

Go watch it.

Not really CITY of HEROES related, but I just got back from seeing The Incredibles. Great movie, and there is a thing about capes that will make any City of Heroes player laugh their ass off.

Just came back from a midnight showing of The Incredibles. Awesome movie.

With the death of superman, me and my fellow heros are morning his loss, we are donning all black, red capes and firey aura eyes, we will be wearing our "mourning colors" for a while, just thought id throw the idea out there for people who care to wear mourning colors.

FANTASTIC FOUR: Avi Arad was adament that FF WILL HAVE the proper tone and is not a comedy but has comedy in it. It is about human connection and Story was a FF guy all his life. The actors don't know a comic book from toilet paper and they were honest about it but aparently Chiklis walked around the Con and was pretty blown away. He delivered a pretty decent "It's clobberin' time" with his Thing action figure in hand. Tim Story was clear that Doom will be Doom. I quote, "The character's name is Victor Von Doom." He said one of the actors (revealed in a week) has a wild accent and Latvia (?) will be part of the plot, although small I guess from the wording.

I was pretty livid with the casting of Alba but she is blonde and while I thought she couldn't act a lick, she either is genuinely ready and honored to do the role or she was acting it on stage well enough that I believed her, which would mean she can act a little if she was lying. The fan boys were lobbing jizz her way in the 6,000 seat auditorium when I thought she would get booed. The suits probably made a wise financial choice. The geeks were eating her up with a spoon and asking for seconds.

So that's good news at least. I'm already over the fanbois drooling on Alba- it's already as annoying as Legolas's fan club, but it can't be helped. At least it looks like they're being true to Doom. And as I said, FF will be a comedy in the same way Spidey was a comedy- it wasn't, it just had some funny bits. But anyway, I am once again hopeful. - Cross posted.

Believe me when I say I've been keeping an eye on this. If you don't know me, ask anyone who does, I am the biggest Doom fanatic you're likely to meet. In a sad, scary kind of way. Because I'd willingly give my life to serve Doom. Yes, I'm that far gone. Anyway.

For those worried about it being a comedy, I don't think we have to worry. It's going to be a comedy in the same way Spiderman is a comedy, with a few jokes plopped in here and there. They've already assured that Doom will be played in all seriousness.

Right now my biggest worries are:

Alba. Don't get me wrong, I have no idea about Alba's acting ability or possible lack thereof. I don't judge a person's acting until I've seen them play the part in question. My major issue is that she's playing Sue Storm, Johnny Storm's brother. And they hired a white actor to play Johnny. So unless they color Sue's hair black, Alba looks too ethnic to look like Johnny's sister. This bothers me.

Damn. They're going with the "ultimate" FF and naming in Victor Van Damn. Also, instead of being the ruler of an eastern european country, he's going to be a powerful business mogul. Let's see. Gypsie who took the throne by force and now rules one of the most prosperous countries in the world, versus business tycoon. They don't really hold the same weight in my mind. Maybe it's just me.

Apparently, according to the last version of the script I saw, Sue is dating Doom, and working for him along with her brother. (And apparently keeps throwing it in Reed's face that he doesnt have Sue.) Also, the four PLUS Doom go into space and are all exposed to radiation. For those who don't know, Doom was never exposed to the radiation, he has no "super powers" - he is an adept at magic. He is also the most intelligent man on Earth, and has studied every science imaginable, and so can use technology like nobody's business. He doesn't actually have any powers.

So my biggest issues are of course with Doom, and the fact that they're not staying true to who the character is. I understand that there always have to be changes from literature to screen. That's to be expected. But the thing that makes Doom cool is that A) He had nothing, and TOOK what he wanted, ie, kicked the ass of the jerk who was ruling his country, and turned it into a paradise. B) He has no powers, he uses his mind to accomplish the stuff he does. C) He acts with Honor and Respect, not the kind of person to throw petty insults at his greatest nemesis over the affections of a woman.

Anyway. This is coming from a Doom fanatic, so maybe I'm the only one set up to be disappointed.

For those of you not familiar with Rotten Tomatoes, it is a great site to find out what the general concensus is on a film. Or a DVD. Or both.

Needless to say, the results are in on Spiderman 2 - so far out of 90 reviews from around the net and in print, they have 97% (or 87 reviews) of them fresh (or positive reviews) and only 3 reviews were negative.

Awwwwwww...yeah.

Mine would star Chris Jericho (I know wrestling is lame, but he's got the attitude and the look for the part)
