Featured Hero #26
Name: Faia
Origin: Science
Archetype: Scrapper
Primary: Martial Arts
Secondary: Regeneration
Server: Justice
One half of the Faded Saints, Faia Teru is the result of an illegal and unorthodox government attempt to create ultimate soldiers. Severely genetically and physically modified within a laboratory for ten-odd years along with partner and boyfriend Kami Mawaru, the now-immortal pair became mercenaries working for big money once the corporation that had produced them went under. The pair were asked to come to Paragon by Justin Sinclaire (the only member of the Freedom Phalanx either Saint admittedly likes), who had heard of their oft world-saving deeds. However the Phalanx got more than they reckoned for in the Saints: they were vigilantes, former government attack dogs that were as underhanded and unethical as the villains themselves. Boy was Paragon City in for a rude awakening.

One thing about AE I don't like...

Well, there is more about AE I don't like since people abuse it until death of CoX. But now I just want to show what I've seen in AP on Triumph.

Pimping other people's missions?

I haven't been doing many AE missions lately, mainly because the only teams that want to do them seem to just want farms. Anyway, last night I dove back in with some friends and accidentally stumbled on a very good one. I keyword searched "Death" looking for something else, and then saw "Death by Snoo Snoo". Very challenging, fun, and relatively short. I hope it doesn't get yanked due to the allusion.

Apologies in advance if there's another, more appropriate place to post this.

Mission architect problem?

Ive had this problem with mission architect for a while now and was wondering how to fix it.

when creating a mission the right side of my screen is cut off and stops me from seeing the picture choices and other things that would help alot, so i was wondering if anyone else has this problem and if there is a way to fix it or am i going to have to live with it?

City of Heroes: The RPG

So, years ago, I read a thread on LJ of a guy wanting to explore a RPG via City of Heroes. It failed horribly as the guy was far from in control of the game. It was a semui pointless excercize in just running the missions as presented and trying to be IC as we did it.

Then came Master Architect and well, it *could* be attempted again. But the deterrent was that you only had 3 slots to create missions.

But now, they've announced they will be making it possible that like character slots, you can buy extra MA mission slots. So for $20 or something like that, you can purchase 5 more slots and have 8 instead of 3.

Now it makes it more feasible for a talented GM to actually run a RPG over CoH. May not be an every week game as it takes time to create good mission arcs. But maybe every other week could be done with an enthusiasitic GM.

Run the missions they have, up to 8 a session, then cycle them out to create 8 new ones each session.

Inbetween sessions, put a level cap, (i.e. Higher then 15, no higher then 18) to prepare for the next session.

I actually think this could be done. A Teamspeak/Ventrillo server would make it even more fun to talk IC. A CoH RPG team of 7 plus the GM. A shared background for the characters. Yes, you *could* run some actual canon missions if you wanted as well. It could be done and it could be fun.

Comments?

Arc-writing done... for now.

I'm a huge geek for building levels, so of course it was the Architect Tools that dragged me back into City. As of now I have three stories published, and while those from the community who are in game while I am may be sick to death of hearing about them- I figured maybe I could ask if anyone else might want to run them and give me feedback here.

1. the Alliterative Lich - neutral - Probably the weakest mission since it's the first I made, and it's really a sort of 'in joke' geek deal, since it was inspired at 5am by an actual author whose horrible work I have fallen in love with. (Amanda McKittrick Ros, who in the late 1800's filled several books with the most incandescently purple prose I have ever seen.) It's a little 3 part arc, and if anything, I'm happy with the cheezy dialog I came up with.

2. Ratta Ptooie - Neutral - An arc about people mutating into rodentkin in the sewers. Some cheap pop culture references (and my usual cheap puns) involved, though I avoided making any character named "Splinter" by sheer force of will. Features one of my actual chars as an ally, and I think some good costumes. A two part story.

3. Rikti, Rikti, You're So Fine - Heroic- A Rikti/Lost-related storyarc in which a mixup at the university puts alien technology and mutagenic chemicals into entirely the wrong hands. This one is a three-parter, and probably my longest-to-actually-create to date... so hopefully also is the most polished of the lot. Break Frees are recommended to take along, since, well, RIKTI.

Iron Architect update

Due to a busy week at school plus only a few responses to my original post, I'm cancelling this weekend's Iron Architect shenanigans.

I'll probably attempt something similar in the future, but right now is not the time.

Apologies to anyone who was planning on participating.

Iron Architect!

While out sweeping the streets one night, your mission scanner emits a loud "BEEP!" You take it out of your pocket, and see the following message hover in front of you, its blue glow reflecting across your face and the nearby buildings:

Greetings, Hero! It is I, The CEO of Architect Entertainment! You have been selected to take part in a great task.

I am seeking the most creative and fast-thinking individuals in Paragon City and the Rogue Isles for a very special project: The Iron Architect program.

Participants in the program will be given a secret theme upon which they will have 24 hours to create a story arc in the architect. These arcs will be judged by a panel of eight Supers based on the following criteria:

Creativity
Use of the theme
Playability/Fun

The winner shall win The People's ovation and fame forever! (or until the next Iron Architect Challenge)

If you are interested, come to your local Architect Entertainment building on the evening of Friday June 12, 2009 (7pm EST) and search for the mission "The CEO's Instructions".
The message flickers out, and you once again resume your patrol.

MA Questions

I'm not an avid player of CoX anymore, and that is for two reasons: Level Grind, and Motion Sickness.

More about my limitations and excitement over the MA system )

I know I'm about a month late on the ball from when the abuse to the MA system was announced on the forums (shows how much I actively play). But would something like how I run things, many mobs in a large and open area, be terms for their supposed abuse? If I actually make a storyline, would that make things better?

I think I may be one of the few people that likes the large open groups of mobs, but not for PLing or farming. Just because it doesn't make me want to lay on my floor from dizziness.

Ideas I Have Had

I have been in a pondering sort of mood, it comes from getting the death flu, and I had two ideas that came to me.

The first was sort of triggered by joining a writing challenge community.

Challenge Themes For AE Missions. Like, example challenge, make an arc/mission heavily involving Doctor Friedkin. Or another one, the theme could be "Bring out the clones!", or having to incorporate a key phrase into it properly.

If this already exists, plz point me to it. I would have so much fun with it.

The other idea was League Of Retired Superheroes. Buncha crotchety old heroes taking up the mantle again.

Okay, I'm done. Back to my hole.

Architect Promotion

I've got 3 great missions that I've made in Architect, but can;t seem to get many people to play.

I'm so close to my 100 players have played your missions badge and really want to hit it.

Other then [info]coh_ma what other ways would folks suggest to promote their missions?

If you want to check them out, they are under @satyr69

game crashed right after I asked, so I might as well do it here while I silently hate the game

Is there something wrong with my search box in AE? Because there's less than a page of dev choice arcs, and the top rated missions below that... are all below twenty votes. That problem solved. Now back to being bewildered over the dev choice thing. I could have sworn there were tons more.

Heroing again!

OK, so, I haven't been playing CoH regularly for a while, but lately I've been in the mood, so with the new issue I figured I'd check out the architect features, and managed to fall in love with the game all over again, for a few reasons...

Cut for complete game geekery )

Let's all be bad guys!

I've noticed that the MA doesn't care if you're a Hero running an arc with villainous overtones or a Villain running an arc with heroic goals.  And that's pretty cool because even my Scrapper, Jezebella, wants to beat on every Longbow that she sees.  I just hope Crey and Dr. Aeon aren't tracking our activities with some kind of "progress to the dark side" point system.

biomekanic [userpic]
You know

I wouldn't mind if my arc had dropped from 4 stars to 3 if the people who gave me lower ratings would have commented on what they didn't like.

Then again, I think the fear of retaliation might be behind that..

It's been mentioned here and elsewhere, but not a huge fan of the ranking system.

Mission Architect, six-year-old version

I was farming for tickets just now and my son (about to turn 6 years old) is watching. My kids know about City and have even toyed around with playing their own alts. So I explained about tickets and creating stories for the game. My son said the following, which is verbatim and unedited.

"Okay, so here's what MY story would be like. It would have five maps and seven bosses. Two of the bosses are giant robots. All the guys shoot fire in the mission. Two of the bosses are human knights. They are the only humans. All the minions are zombie Greek warriors. The bosses all do attacks that make you lose some of your health but then they get health back. But just a little bit. Everyone shoots fire. And you can only summon 3 henchmen, if you have henchmen. There would be seven badges, but two of the badges are hidden in glowies. There would be two glowies. It takes place in Good Guy City but you have to go there through a portal. Two of the badges are hidden inside the bosses. The rest are hidden in the missions and you have to find them. The bosses have 200 hit points each. And that's the mission. And now you can write it up and play it over and over again, any time you want! Can you create it right now for me?"

It needs work, but hey! His first mission plan!

(Yes, I know he only describes 4 of the 7 bosses)

Mission Architect and the community

So, with Issue 14 officially going live tomorrow, it's clear that a lot of LJ people are going to be making arcs and would like to publicize them in the community. If everyone makes their own post, we're going to be overwhelmed.

SO, I'm proposing a weekly post where everyone can comment with their recently published arcs, and everyone else can reply with their commentary and feedback. It'll be posted the same time every week with the same title and the same tags, so it'll be easy to find in the community archives.

Sample arc post format:

Arc Name:
Arc ID:
Faction(s):
Creator Global Name:
Difficulty Level:
Synopsis:
Mission Count:
Estimated Time to Play:

What do you guys think?

Hero 1 talks about Mission Architect.

Massively.com interview with Joe Morrissey (aka Hero 1)

Contains some tidbits about the MA, like how arcs are chosen for Dev Choice, which I'm sure at least some may be interested in.

Will edit to reproduce the content later, for those blocked at work or whatnot.

Blow up the Cake Room!

So, the reason I wanted access to the purple cave maps was so I could create a mission I knew everyone would enjoy: Blow up the Cake Room!

Blow Up The Cake Room, Arc# 19778, created 4/2/09 (so you can find it by sorting by date if you need to). Very short, one mish, small map. The Cake Room is at the back of the map and the mission is front loaded, so you should never actually have to get near the dreaded room itself. The bomb was in the same place both times I tested the mission, so if some people could try the mish out on test and let me know I would appreciate it. When you enter the first "room" from the door, there are three ways you can go. Turn right, and the bomb should be on a ledge/platform as soon as you get into the room. If anyone gets the bomb anywhere else, please let me know!

You don't have to kill anything (though you can kill the snakes if you want), you can just stealth up to the bomb and click it - mish complete!

Obviously there's no real reward for this "arc" because it's so easy and so short.. but you get to blow up the Cake Room! I could do this all day...

Mission Architect: Maps Question

I am utterly confused. Where are the regular purple cave maps? The Cave Rikti set are the smooth caves that have bits of Rikti ships in them, the Caves Smooth set are the brown/Snake caves, the Circle of Thorns sets are Oranbega.. where are the regular purple caves? (No, they're not under Unique either.) And Office Transition to Caves won't work for my purposes at all. ;_;

Re-Published Arc: Inherent in the System

Based on the very good feedback I got from members of the LJ community here, I've edited and re-published my story arc. It can now be found under Arc # 19438. Monty Python jokes notwithstanding, the name is still "Inherent in the System." The search system is once again fully functional...

I invite you all to partake at your leisure. Those who were scared/irritated off by the first mission's Malta/Artemis combo should be pleased to find some more common, less annoying enemies present instead. I've also tweaked other options to provide a more balanced experience and additional flavor. The final mission still features 2 EBs and 1 AV depending on your party makeup and difficulties, so be forewarned.

Nevertheless, I invite more feedback if you have it to provide. Oh, and for the sake of spam, I won't be making any more post topics about this arc any longer. (If anyone has issues and wants to know if a major update is made later, let me know and I can contact directly...)
