Featured Hero #28
Name: Donner
Origin: Magic
Archetype: Tanker
Primary: Invulnerability
Secondary: Battle Axe
Server: Virtue
When Don Kane was on a hiking expedition in the German mountains, He came across a dark cavern. In that cavern was an old wooden chest with Runes carved into the entire surface. When he figured out how to open the chest, he found a belt and an Axe with runes inlayed into the head. When he put on the belt and picked up the Axe, he found he could hover. He also found that his strength was magnified by a great deal. There are other gifts not yet discovered that the Axe and Belt grant as well. When he made his way back to the states, he decided to use these gifts to help others and headed to Paragon City. A curious side effect of note is that the longer he holds the Rune Axe, the more he is convinced that he is the reincarnation of an aspect of Donner, the Teutonic deity.

Warshades (and Peacebringers) and IO set bonuses

Does anyone know if set bonuses from IOs carry over into a Warshade's (or Peacebringer's) Nova and Dwarf forms?

Specific examples: sets with speed bonuses to amp up Dwarf's slowness and sets with rez bonuses to amp up Nova's squishiness. And, would the IOs need to be slotted in either the Dwarf/Nova power itself or any of their form-specific powers?

An even more intriguing question would be can you use the Freebird +stealth special in Nova?

Contagious Confusion

If I slot the "Coercive Persuasion: Contagious Confusion" proc in a single target Confuse power from the Mind Control power set, does it do what I think it does by its name, i.e.  provide a chance for others near the target to become confused?   The description reads, "This enhancement gives a 33% chance of causing confusion."  That doesn't really clarify anything since it's meant to be slotted in powers that confuse.

Now that I've hit 43 I want to respec my Rad/Dark Defender for the push to 50. This guy only plays on our SG and the party is made up of my guy, a Tanker, 2 scrappers, a Blaster and an Earth/Rad controller. Given the team only nature my attempt is to build Ol' Dark Rad Lad as full blown support for the team with little expectation for damage output.

Please provide me with your feedback, especially on my slotting choices. Thanks!

The DXP market experiment

So this past Double XP weekend I didn't have any real leveling goals, past getting my new tank to 20.

Instead I decided to do a market experiment. I picked seven toons I wasn't planning on playing and got a different memorization badge for each, with two on one of them (explanation further down).

My target was level 25 common IOs, focusing on the 'big four,' ACC, DAM, END, RECH.

I didn't keep track of the specifics: how much each IO cost me considering salvage, crafting and selling fees, or how many I crafted overall (which would have been quite smart). I put up every IO for 150k, and every listed one sold anywhere between 150k and 500k. (With one selling for 1.5mil.)

I've never done this sort of thing before, so I did go way overboard in how many I crafted; no one sold their entire inventory because frankly, I did not have the time to check on these toons every few hours to claim the inf and put down more enhancements.

I didn't have any specific goals toward making inf or selling enhancements; I just wanted to see what would happen. My real desire was to do the 'big four' on both sides. I came close.

Here are my end results:

ACCURACY (luck charm, boresight)
Rogue Tekk, Justice red:
start: 51,073,377 - end: 54,721,511 - gain: 3,648,132 - 31 left over

Parallel Illusion, Triumph blue:
failed to craft ANY of these, because Luck Charms are prohibitively expensive; I refuse to pay more than 10k for a piece of common salvage and there are very few times when Luck Charms reach this price. For this reason I switched him to DAMAGE, but only got about 1.5 days of selling them, resulting in a low overall gain. Got the memo badge from To Hit Buff recipes instead, and sold all those for a profit before the weekend started.

DAMAGE (inanimate carbon rod, brass)
Parallel Illusion, Triumph blue:
start: 16,028,043 - end: 17,000,843 - gain 1,172,800 - 27 left over

Ball-Breaker, Infinity red:
start: 24,782,355 - end: 49,426,463 - 9644108* gain: - 24 left over [*15mil inf transfer from another toon on Saturday]

ENDURANCE REDUX (ancient artifact, spell scroll)
Subliminal Zeus, Virtue blue:
start: 44,781,486 - end: 56,284,136 - gain: 11,502,650 - 19 left over

Lord Volf Alteron, Justice red:
start: 61,725,727 - end: 64,436,977 - gain: 2,711,250 - 64 left over (forgot to log in ALL SATURDAY *face palm)

RECHARGE (clockwork winder, computer virus)
Klaus Alteron, Protector blue:
start: 7,619,720 - end: 14,815,220 - gain: 7,195,500 - 59 left over [These were slow to start out, they didn't start peeling away like hotcakes until mid-Sat.]

Vampyromorphida, Victory red:
start: 31,909,873 - end: 42,277,762 - gain: 8,367,889* - 32 left over [*2mil 'float' for teaming on Friday night, actual end gain was 10mil]

---
I'm sure there are many of you who make regular profits with the memo badges; I know they can provide steady income, but that has not been my way. I tend to regularly craft and sell set pieces for a less steady but more profitable overall income. So it was interesting to see the 'other side' of this craft-for-profit method, and something I think I will pick up on a few very poor lowbies.

Ok, this is probably a dumb question, but I looked through the tags and couldn't find it anywhere, so...exactly how do we convert base salvage into invention salvage?  Is it the IO table?  the basic work table?  the expert one?  I looked through the base (admittedly, it was more of a quick scan, but still) and couldn't figure it out.

Speed cap?

Is there some sort of cap to running speed? I timed myself running a half-mile before and after I slotted a bunch of IOs that give speed bonuses in multiple. In both cases, I ran a half mile in 22 seconds, for a speed of just shy of 82mph.

Is there no way to run faster? I mean, the character is a speedster. 82mph is anemic.

Issue 13 and the game economy

I think it has been mentioned in these esteemed pages that the price of rare recipes is bound to crash once the Merit system starts making them widely available. This could take some time from the actual release day, but probably not very long. (I expect a flurry of task forces in particular for a while.) The anticipation of this will probably put a downward pressure on them already.

On the other hand, the double builds will require many (most?) players to have twice as many enhancements, and this should send salvage prices through the roof. Strangely, I have seen NO indication of this. On the contrary, salvage seems to be getting slowly cheaper in the final days of I12. The flood of new characters should provide a glut of low-level salvage, but medium and especially high level salvage should fetch much better prices, permanently, as there will be steadily new charcters making twice as many IOs. Salvage used in rare recipes - which I assume would be mostly rare salvage as well - could become a new bottleneck and fetch insane amounts.

Am I overlooking something important here?

Salvage spreadsheet?

Has anyone come across or created a spreadsheet listing the various invention salvage, for keeping track of inventory between alts?

Suggestion

Dear Devs,

Try putting something besides Deific Weapon in every single freaking recipe. Thanks.

Your Pal,
Me

EDIT: Please stop taking this post so seriously. It was me going through my drops, finding myself rolling my eyes and saying "Oh, of course I need a Deific Weapon." multiple times, not some sort of HULK SMASH! rage I was going off on. Maybe we need an "Eye Roll" tag.

Issue 13 Spreadsheet

This Google Spreadsheet is a great detailed reference for many of the new features in Issue 13. It will tell you how many merit rewards you get for completing various in-game tasks, how many merit rewards various items cost at the vendor, all the Day Job locations and perks, and new base costs.

Via a post on the official boards.

Hours to get a specific rare?

[info]quasadu helpfully provided this link detailing how many merits each TF is.

So, what is the multiplier to convert merits into the datamined average speed for TFs? Katie Hannon gives 7 merits. Is the multiplier 4, meaning 28 minutes is average?

Also, I did log into test, and looked into the cost of the Miracle and Numina uniques. It looked like they cost about 240 merits, or about the equivalent of a dozen random recipes.

Anyway, if the merit-into-minutes multiplier is only 4, that means it would take about 4*240 = 4*4*60 = 16*60 = 16 "average" hours on TFs to get it. If the multiplier is higher....

Are purples still only drops from critters?

[ETA] Oh, I forgot to check, but I expect the answer is no: Can you sell recipes back to a merit vendor and get back merits for them? [/ETA]

Thomas Yan [userpic]
What do we know about I13 merits?

I forget, is I13 out of closed beta, meaning that now there is public information?

Can we still choose random recipes as TF rewards?

Do we know how many merits various TFs are worth? Is it keyed just off the TF, or are team size and toon levels or other factors involved?

Do we know how many merits are needed for various recipes?

I see some people say they are holding off on TFs until I13 comes out. I am trying to figure out if I want to do the same. I am thinking maybe just the Shard TFs can wait.

Salvage level 20-30

I cannot be the only one who has noticed this: Starting around level 20, the usual salvage fades out (luck charms, boresight etc) and is replaced with the next tier (alchemical gold, deific weapon etc). Unfortunately, level 25 IOs require the old salvage. And 20 & 25 is what I will be making at least until level 27, quite a stretch for a cautious player. Is there any reason for this?

And is there a way to get lower-level salvage (short of buying it on Wbay, which is hardly a solution since everyone is in the same boat). I actually have a couple teen characters whose main purpose is to harvest luch charms for their senpai. They try to stay in their teens as long as possible, and do blue and green missions to maximize the drop/XP ratio. But surely there must be some other way?

Keeping track of all that salvage.

Just how do you guys do it?  I tried to use Excel for a while, but it was just too clunky to try and track it, with all my alts and whatnot.  So now I just sell it as soon as I get it, and buy what I need when I need it.

What's the best way to track your salvage inventory for all your toons?

IO set question from Mids

So I know you can't have more then 5 of the same "Type" of bonus but while planning in Mids I don't know if say a 7% Acc is a Moderate Bonus or a Large Bonus.
My Mids plan shows five sets giving me a +9% acc each and two giving me a +7% acc Would those work together?

Blaster Mez Protection

I thought I saw a post on this some time ago, but I can't seem to find it. What powers / IOs are out there for Blasters that seek mez protection / resistance? I've got Acrobatics (Hold, KB) and Aid Self (Stun). Others?

Quick (Stupid) Question...

Is there any place in the game where you can sell Invention Origin Enhancements other than Wentworths?  I have quite a few I've made that are just not selling and I'd like to just dump them.

I am Shaggy's rambling recollections [userpic]
Confused about Karma.

In considering respeccing my Tank, I was trying to figure out a way to get the Superspeeder away from the Leaping power pool. I really relied on Acrobatics, so was looking for an alternate Knockback protection.

Everywhere I went... the forums, the web, everywhere, told me that a Karma IO was sufficient against most everyone, with the exception of perhaps Katie or Fake Nemeses and up. Thinking "awesome," I spent a bunch of money getting the IO recipe, building a set, and respecced.

Now I'm fighting Crey, and Voltaic Tank Lieutenants are taking me down easily, both knockdown and knockback. What gives? Did I waste my money and only freespec under a false impression?

Universal Travel?

Anyone see this set in WW/BM, or the update to toggled travel powers?

Of the randomly hot...

Today I was playing a lowbie villain VEAT* for a prolongued bout of missioning. I was on a roll, and too low for a travel power, so I was really pushing the trips to vendors to sell. It's not like I had anything worth much. Soooo all of my inventories were slowly turning red. Enhancements, who cares. Salvage, whatever, I was doing mostly Tech. The Recipes weren't filling up, though, for the longest time.

Last mission of the night, I'm in the middle of the boss battle and my Recipes finally fill up. Brilliantly, I decide that this was, indeed, a problem. So I delete stuff right then, in the middle of the fight, and almost die. Oops. But! The second I close the Recipe window I got dropped a Karma Knockback Protection. Woohoo!

Karma. Har har.

*There, fixed :P
