Featured Hero #15
Name: Lilyfyre
Origin: Magic
Archetype: Blaster
Primary: Fire Blast
Secondary: Electrical Manipulation
Server: Virtue
When magic backfires, it backfires in a big way. A lock of hair stolen from a long lost love was used to bring a fragile blossom to life. But Lily was not the docile, sweet, obedient flower her creator had hoped for; she burned with outrage at being forced from her quiet garden.

Thoughts on duoing Jurassik

Yes, you read that right. I'm insane and trying to duo Jurassik. a 38 D3 and a 38 Claws/regen versus a 40 Monster Jurassik at the end of the Numina TF. Here is my suggested battle plan:
Take a trip to Warburg for two full complements of Nukes (One set for each of us)
Take a trip to Bloody Bay for a fresh Shivan Shard apiece.
Return to Jurassik, clear the map but him normally.
Summon Shivans, Dark Servant.
Throw 1 Bio nuke buff on assembled team.
TP Fluffy into aggro range of Jurassik
Throw 1 Chem Nuke at Big J.
Unleash full complement of Dark debuffs.
Throw 1 EMP Nuke
Send in scrapper
Keep Scrapper alive, watch for nukes to wear off/shivans to time out or die.
Repeat as allowed/until dead.

Thoughts?

And when I thought City of Heroes couldn't surprise me anymore

I was on Justice late last night (early morning for you US people) a call went out for Help in Croatoa for Jack in Irons to be taken down. I immediately responded to the throwdown, and the team assembled for some quick fun.

After Jack lay defeated, the leader asked if we could do a quick search for Echohai. So the team spread to the corners of the world looking.

Couldn't find Echohai, so my hero moped and kicked a few rocks away in frustration, when she looked up and saw an orange tree slightly aflame. Haha a Streng is pathetically attempting to hide himself. Ill fix that. As she called on the heavens razor sharp icicles rained down on this Streng's rude disguise and it bellowed in pain "So, you defy the Fir Bolg?" (In a classic Christopher Lee LotR voice)

The tree turned PURPLE..
The tree shook itself loose...
The tree unfolded and raised itself up to above the treetops.
The UI helpfully tagged the tree Echohai.

oh...my...God!

Classic movie moment, so wish I could have recorded a demo file of it, particularly my girlish squeals of HELP HELP. HERE!!

Victory, RWZ level 41-ish AV mission:

I know it's short notice, but I'll be home tonight around 11pm Central time and would love to do this mission on Invincible, where it is now.  I think if I had a Shivan, I might be able to pull it off myself, as you pick up Faultline, Fusionette and a Rikti Psy-Scout along the way.  I hear if you don't exit where Hro'Dtohz (the AV) is defeated, you get swarmed by Heavy Assault Suits.  Which, well, I think we could skip.

If anyone is interested, I'll wait until 11:15, or just keep working the mission and chipping away at my XP.  I don't mind re-starting it.  :)

Yes, I'm bragging. Because I know HOW I did it!

Yeah, yeah, TF spawn sizes -- what about AVs?

The patch notes say:

Spawns in Task Forces, Strike Forces and Trials will now spawn enemies for at least the minimum size required to start the Task Force, Strike Force or Trial.

For example, if a Task Force requires 4 players to start and a team of 8 start the Taskforce, the spawns will spawn for a team size of 8. If 4 players drop out of this Task Force leaving only 4 players left in the team, the spawns will adjust to a team size of 4. If 2 more players leave the Task Force leaving only 2 players, the spawns will remain at a team size of 4, since that is the minimum size required to start the Task Force.
That's all very fine, but does the AV scale according to team size?

As for note itself, it almost majorly sucked for the LGTF that I did recently. Read more... )

Masters of Olympus!

OH DEAR MOTHER OF GOD, WHY HAD NO ONE WARNED ME!?!

We has a small SG night this evening over on Triumph. My co-leader (read: Wife) and I took a fellow SG member who is battling those last hellish levels to 50 (he was 47 tonight, ended 48  YAY), around on my tanker's missions set on invincible. We had no problems... the Malta fell to the three of us like tivo-disciples before "instant replay" after a wardrobe-malfunction. I hung back from immediate exit from the WildeFlower mission to read the clues and such, only to appear outside to see my co-leader in the RED and our healer in the ORANGE... to the sound of KAWBOOOM all around me.

Yes, we had somehow spawned a Kronos class Titan - Giant monster Malta robot. With some quickly tossed taunts and such to draw all the agro from my teammates, I stood there while the thing pounded on me and wondered "what the hell?!?" My co-leader called out, "a giant monster?!?  no way... no f*#&$*#king way! Not with 3!"

Some urgent broadcasting later, we pulled in the aid of 4 other heroes, three of whom we ended up sidekicking. I am very proud of our core SG, for we stood there without backup for many minutes, with that big bucket-of-bolts pounding on us, and we held our ground! (yay for well built tankers with lots of taunting).

It was all worth it when we toppled its ass to the ground and owned it...

it was even better to get a badge I didn't even know existed!

The actual stopping of the WildFlower operation, I suspect, will be anticlimactic after Kronos.

Still, THAT ROCKED!

Lusca Fish Fry on Protector

You know it, you've seen it, you hate it. It's Lusca, that oversized calamari platter-in-training that sits in Independence Port. And as of 3pm, Saturday, Sept 22, multiple strike teams are going to do something about it!

Fun with Giant Monsters

My husband and I were running on his 34 fire/kin SK'd up to my 50 Ice/Storm. About halfway through missions, I got the idea that we might be able to solo a few of the lower GMs; we had duoed Babbage once upon a time on different toons at level 32- right after he'd gotten Full Auto and I'd gotten the Earth control pet (whom I affectionately refer to as Arnold.)

So, we both split ways, him heading to Boomtown to check for Babbage and me heading to DA to check for Adamastor. Lucky for us, both of them were up. So, we set upon Babbage first, figuring that he was 'lower level' (he used to have his info say he was 29, but they've changed all the GM infos to say, "Level: Unknown" :/) and that, if we couldn't kill him, we wouldn't be able to kill Adamastor.

Babbage was basically a piece of cake. My husband had his imps out, I had Jack Frost out and I was spamming Tornados and Lightning Storms- usually having two of each out for about ten to twenty seconds thanks to his yummy crack speed boost. Babbage was only spawning level 50 cogs, which we found amusing at best. He only took about 20 minutes to take down and neither of us got hurt, really, at all.

On to Adamastor.

Because of our problems with endurance during the last fight, we raided the base for about 25 blues, each of varying levels. We got stomped on a few times, but my husband was spamming Transfusion, so we only had to respawn pets occasionally and make sure that we were both within range to catch the heal. While it wasn't a very difficult fight, it took forever! I attempted to demorecord the whole thing, but I haven't even checked to see if it worked yet. All in all, that fight took about a half an hour. It was arduous and lots of bystander Banished Pantheon were lost in the shuffle, but we felt pretty good about ourselves afterwards.

However, apparently these are the weakest of all the GMs. o_O

We went to check to see if there was a Paladin running around and were (un)lucky enough to find one. He... pretty much ripped us to shreds. I think the problem was that the second we ran in, he'd sleep us (well, he'd sleep me; I knew to drop a few 02 boosts on my husband's toon to keep that from happening) and then smacked our pets hard enough to kill them immediately. Without 3 imps and a jack Frost as the main source of damage and aggro, we were left to be squished to butter. To kill him we had to recruit a passing 32 kat/? scrapper and a 30 ill/emp troller. After we had that combination he fell apart like a mother at her only daughter's wedding.

Next we went looking for Kraken, figuring he'd be little enough to take down fairly easily. In the past, I've usually killed Kraken in groups of no more than 3, with each person being no higher than mid-30s. He's never been a problem. He wasn't... really a problem this time. In about 15 minutes, we got him down to about 1/8 his life. Then... unfortunately he smacked me good and, while I was recasting Lightning Storm (when I -should- have been runing into melee to catch the heal my husband cast haha), he barfed on me. That took me out. About ten seconds later he repeated the act with my husband's toon.

Neither of us felt like continuing, even though we got back to him and he was still about 1/4 damaged.

Ah well, maybe next time :D

A sensitive photo essay: 'Task Force Rapid Response, and how it kicked ass,' by LJ user caviling aka Sirius Business )

We had two wonderful scrappers (Ms. Nikki of LiveJournal fame and Yip Man, who was some really cool guy we found wandering around), a fantastic tanker in Ms. Lisette, a frabjous controller (Frost Petal), and a passel of defenders: me, (sonic/sonic), Adara Belle (ff/sonic), Saint Tempest (trick arrow/archery), and the inimitable Riley Grimm (empathy/radiation.)

PS: This TF got Sirius Business from level 17 to level 20 in under four hours. So of course he celebrated with a new costume. )

The Devs made a funny

This has probably already been discovered, but I was just looking at some of my screenshots and the translation of the new Giant Monster's name finally dawned on me...

U'Kon Gr'ai = You con gray

and how appropriate the name is: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v720/jillbamfette/?action=view¤t=wipe.jpg

I bet Positron named him.

random amusement from Perez

So um... Kraken has a very flexible jaw.

Check out the last 7 screenies.

I like how in the last two you can see its widdle crooked teeth jutting out.

Giant Killer

I started hunting Giant Monsters when my Level 27 Radiation/Sonic defender respeced into a somewhat decent build. On the same day, I duoed Eochai (three times), Jack in Irons (three times), Adamastor (twice), Paladin (twice), Babbage and Kraken.

I went after Babbage solo and defeated him after almost 10 minutes (he kept on sleeping me and draining my endurance), but unfortunately I gave up hitting the Fraps recording key after five minutes or so (I don't have the full version).

But then I went after Adamastor again, and this time the fight only lasted three minutes and a half, so I fraps'ed the whole thing. I carried an almost full tray of blues after Babbage's end-draining nightmare, but I didn't need any after all.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09HPCdv31qQ

Result: 13,000 XP at level 29. 3,250 influence (in SG mode). 2,500 prestige. 1,000 ego points.

Really wish I had the full version of Fraps before I go after the other GMs. My goal is to defeat them all in five minutes or less. :)

Amazing what a buffed Shivan can do...

1 Empathy defender (Hobo Fruitsalad, formerly known as Hobo Healer) with a Shivan buffed to all hell with Fort, AB, the RA's, and Warburg Nukes take out an AV level Infernal in like, no time flat :p http://www.repeat-offenders.net/hobo/fruitsalad.wmv

Even though he used all those temp powers, I think it was pretty impressive, since, nevermind the AV, Hobo solo'd an invincible mission with no temp powers and solo'd getting the Warburg nukes and Shivan thereby putting to rest the ridiculous 'but emps can't solo!' argument. Also, there's this Brute on the forums bragging about doing exactly the same thing, soloing a bunch of AV's with the help of Shivans and Nukes, and thinking it's a big deal. Maybe he'll quiet up a bit now that he's been upstaged by an emp defender.

Hobo says that he thinks he could have done it without the pets, but would have needed the nukes. I find myself wondering what I could do with my Rad defender and a Shivan buffed by AM. I think that with my well slotted LR and toggle debuffs I'd be the other way around, may need the Shivan for some tanking ability and damage, but could probably do without the nukes. I remember when i tried to solo Babbage with my Dark/Elec defender, I could survive just fine, but could not put out enough damage, but then again, when I tried it I did not have Howling Twilight, so....

3 AVs in one day

I had a great day soloing with my fire/axe tanker today on Champion. This morning I beat Mr.Po (dieing twice), Shin (dieing once) and tonight Doc Vahz (with out dieing). All missions where on rugged. What's sad is my deaths where from Lt lead mobs not the AVs. LOL

Eochai hates me

The last time I was in Heroes, I heard a teammate saying he wanted to go somewhere to logout so he didn't spawn in an unfamiliar setting. "Pfft, big deal" I thought. It's not hard to catch your bearings.

So, I go and log in today, right where I logged out the other day in Talos Island. Directly underneath Eochai's sweaty nutsac! What luck. Noone was even around to keep him occupied. And before I knew what that stench was, WHAM - I get stepped on (or something like that) and go flying. When I see a pumpkin in the distance, I knew what it was and hit fly and took off!

Got a respectable distance away, started flying backwards to see what I had gotten myself into. And I see see a pumpkin heading straight for me. Ohboy. Not even enough time to hit one of the big fat greens I got im my tray. WHAP. Landed in the pond. What a suck way to start the day. 95k debt! And I thought it was bad when I went to my day job, hitting nearly every red light on the way to realize I left my laptop at home, but only after I parked the car.

Some days it just does not pay to get out of bed.
