Featured Hero #84
Name: Tam Lyn Carter
Origin: Magic
Archetype: Defender
Primary: Dark Miasma
Secondary: Psychic Blast
Server: Justice
Named after a figure from Scottish myth, Tam teaches Japanese and linguistics at the local college when he's not out fighting crime. His interest in languages stems from a childhood spent at archaeological digs. While teaching English and studying in Japan, he found a strange artifact in an old shrine. He blacked out after picking it up, awaking in his own room. Since that day he has had a strange affinity for shadows. When he discovered his powers, he did some research. The object he picked up likely held some sort of dragon spirit captive, and the spirit has now possessed him! Usually he is able to control it, but sometimes the dragon inside starts to show through. Tam is dealing with this as best he can, and has moved from his native Maryland to Paragon City so he can help out that city's famous heroes. Originally known as "Shade," Tam's secret ID was outed early in his career when he rescued one of his students. He hopes to become a translator for visiting Japanese heroes someday.

Check THIS out.

With a year of game play under its belt, City of Heroes accumulated a number of statistics from the clash between heroes and villains. Here are but a few:

More than 10 million characters were created in City of Heroes, of those 10 million:
o 27 percent were of mutant origin
o 24 percent were of magic origin
o 18 percent were of natural origin
o 16 percent were of science origin
o 15 percent were of technology origins
The 10 million characters created in City of Heroes is equivalent to the combined populations of Chicago, Los Angeles, Houston and Philadelphia.

More than 100,000 super groups were created in City of Heroes, which is more than twice the number of Boy Scout troops that exist in the United States.

Paragon City in the City of Heroes game is around the same size as Manhattan at 23 square miles.

More than 80 million hours of City of Heroes have been played, which is equal to more than 9,000 years if played by one person. Nine thousand years ago man made the first fermented drinks in history, according to a recent discovery in China.

More than 1.1 trillion influence, which is used as currency in City of Heroes, is in circulation in Paragon City. The United States’ Congressional Budget Office’s 2005 annual report on the budget outlook forecasts a cumulative deficit of $1.3 trillion from 2005 to 2014 for the U.S. federal budget.

Whaddaya think about THAT?!?!?!

Comments

If there are 10 million superheroes, then nobody's super.

So the Supers are normal and the Paragon police are...differently abled?

That's handiCAPABLE, please. :-)

The Paragon Police scream like little girls and run away when trouble is about. Haven't you heard them? I almost fell off my chair when I first heard the scream come out of a man in riot gear...too funny.

Except the 50 million-odd 1st-name-only, walking the streets at 4am, got no job, got no kids civillians and policemen.

...they must all work for the government...

I think that explains why every good name I think up is taken.

Don't despair. I believe Qwerty01A3 is still available.

Not anymore :-)

I need to be able to fly in real life, so that it doesn't take me 500 years to get from battery tunnel to harlem. That's a HAUL. Maybe the population of manhattan needs to be culled. :)

1 out of every 10 of those heroes lives below the poverty line.
