Chuck S2 USA DVD news
This season, Chuck is in luck. Intersect II is ready for espionage service. And that means the old Intersect (Chuck) can go back to his old life. But if Chuck goes, he's gone: Casey has orders to off him. In the series called "TV's funniest comedy" by EW.com, Chuck survives to unravel mysteries of the past, become a hero in the present, and - in a stunner of a season finale - chop-and-drop himself into an even more perilous future!Waaaay back in April we reported that Amazon.com had begun taking pre-announcement pre-orders for Chuck - The Complete 2nd Season, on both DVD and high-def Blu-ray Disc formats. No release date was available, because Warner Home Video had not formally announced it yet. Now, more than six months later, the studio has made it official for us! The release date is January 5th.
The timing is obviously meant to tie in with the third season broadcast debut on NBC, which is slated to debut in March 2010 (though it's been said it could perhaps move up to a little bit earlier; perhaps an early January DVD release for season two might be a possible sign of that...or just trying to capture store traffic during post-holiday sales?). The third season is ordered for 13 episodes (with an opportunity for NBC to order more, depending on ratings) and guest stars reported such as Brandon Routh (Superman Returns), Kristin Kreuk (Smallville) and Angie Harmon (Law & Order). But wait, that's all for the NEXT season. I'm such a Chuck-lehead; I'm supposed to be talking about the 2nd Season home videos! Sorry, just I enjoy this program too much.
The Blu-ray Disc version of Chuck - The Complete 2nd Season will come on 4 discs, at a cost of $69.97 SRP (which is ten dollars less than Amazon's listing had originally shown, but it has been adjusted to the correct amount since then). Video is in high-definition 1080p widescreen. Audio is available with either English Dolby Surround 5.1 or Spanish 2.0 Stereo. Subtitles are in English, French, Spanish and Dutch.
The DVD edition will come on 6 discs, at a cost of $59.98 SRP (confirming the previously-reported amount). Video is in anamorphic widescreen, with audio available in either English Dolby Surround 5.1 or Portuguese 2.0 Stereo. Subtitles are English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Portuguese and Thai.
Besides the 22 second-year episodes (approx. 1000 minutes), Chuck - The Complete 2nd Season contains the following bonus material on both the DVD and Blu-ray Disc editions:
• Truth, Spies and Regular Guys: Exploring the Mythology of Chuck
• Dude in Distress: Explore Some of This Season's Best Action Sequences
• Chuck Versus the Webisodes: Web-Originated Minifeaturettes
• Chuck: A Real-Life Captain Awesome's Tips for Being Awesome
• John Casey Presents: So You Want to Be a Deadly Spy?
• Declassified Scenes
• Gag Reel
Below is the updated package art, front and rear, for the DVD and the Blu-ray Disc releases. There are 2 "box front" pictures for the Blu-ray release: one is for the "o-ring" outer cover, and the other is for the inner plastic case. Generally speaking, these are mostly finalized. However, not all information shown on the rear art is necessarily the final numbers. For example, the running time is different on the DVD and Blu-ray versions. Also, the studio's announcement info says the DVD release is on 6 discs, and the Blu-ray release comes on 4 discs. However, both rear box pictures say "6-Disc Set" near the top, so that's obviously a mis-match on the BD version. Still, these are minor nitpicks, and the rest should mostly be what you'll find on store shelves in January.

*wonders why the DVD doesn't have Dutch subs, when the Blu-ray does* :(
