chuck_casey is an amalgam of the different types of fannish communities you will usually find scattered about Livejournal, from a single source. It is a "daily" community, where there will be regular posts of screencaps and promotional pictures. It is a challenge community, where a weekly prompt is set forth and members are encouraged to respond with stories and art. It is a discussion community, where you can ask questions and engage in conversations as long as they're at least tangentially on topic. It is a place to crosspost your Chuck/Casey fannish works -- vids, fic, art, etc. -- as well.

We have a team of enthusiastic moderators on board to ensure that your experience at chuck_casey is a positive one, and we're currently looking for volunteers who are interested in becoming a more active part of the community.

Keep this in mind about Monday night's ratings: It was the first night of Rosh HaShanah so a lot of folks did not have their TV on. I, myself, watched on hulu last Thursday.

I can't believe there isn't one yet! Or did I miss it *hides* If yes, delete this *coughs*

Anyway: Chuck's on again!!!

Chuck's mostly excellent season two premiere was critically lauded, but was unable to garner excitement from the television audience. The ratings were poor, but not surprisingly so – Chuck inhabits perhaps the most difficult time slot in the network week. The Monday – 8pm slot is home to Chuck, Gossip Girl, The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Dancing with the Stars. It's one thing to pit both of Josh Schwartz's shows against each other (he runs Chuck and Gossip Girl), but placing both series against such fierce competition is plain mean. NBC curiously ordered a full second of season of Chuck before the premiere even aired. They had to have known what to expect from Chuck's ratings.


Chuck's Monday premiere garnered 6.6 million viewers, down nearly 30 percent from the show's first season premiere a year ago. The 6.6 million is low for a network show, but it is in line with how Chuck did near the end of its first season. Is there an answer? NBC could move Chuck to a different time slot, but they have to put something on at 8pm on Mondays. You can't just punt a time slot.

NBC isn't stupid. They knew that Chuck would struggle against its time slot competition. Yet, they had enough confidence in the series to renew it for a full season. Are the demographic numbers good enough that, even at 6 to 7 million viewers, Chuck remains financially viable? That's possible. However, going against shows geared towards young males like Terminator and the two CBS comedies, Chuck doesn't do great in really any way, ratings-wise.

Selfishly, I wish NBC would move Chuck to a more enviable time slot. Even with Chuck's full season order, I can't escape the feeling that Chuck is on unsteady ground. NBC can't be content with the show's low numbers and if Chuck continues to perform this poorly, they would eventually have to cancel Chuck, or at least move it.

What do you think NBC should do? Is there a good solution? Should they shuffle their entire schedule around?

Sweet Charity is a fandom-centric charity auction, in which members of fandom at large auction off their abilities, and the proceeds are donated to a pre-determined cause. It runs twice a year, in March and (around) September. The March auction benefits RAINN (the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) and the September cause is selected by the community. This autumn, the selected cause is Invisible Children, an organization which provides relief to youth in Northern Uganda.

There are several Tarts (the new official name for participants auctioning off their skills) with Chuck items on offer. I, personally, have three pieces of fiction up for grabs. Simply go to the For Sale page and narrow your results by fandom (Listed under "All Tags") to see what's on offer.

Auctions are open until October 4th. This is a great opportunity to get someone else to wrangle that rabid plot bunny for you, or vid that song you keep getting stuck in your head.

Last night's ratings:

The 8pm hour saw the premiere of Chuck get bested DWTS and The Big Bang Theory/How I Met Your Mother on CBS. While Chuck with 6.62 million in its premiere was down well below its premiere in season one where it did over nine million viewers, it performed OK in both the 18-49 and 18-34 demos (though Gossip Girl beat it among 18-34 year olds). I know some knuckleheads will chime in about how the Chuck premiere has been available on the Internet via Hulu for a week, but we doubt that significantly impacted the numbers. I really love this show, so I hope it turns out I’m wrong and that three million people watched it over the Internet last week. I’d guess more like 300,000. Still Chuck performed better across the board than Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

...I'd be a little worried if the episodes weren't great and it wasn't picked up for a whole season, but I think it's only going to get better.

So, Hulu.com and NBC.com are showing the season premiere one week early and I took 6 screencaps of the new opening credits. The rest is pretty much the same as last year, they have just made these Buy More people series regulars, I guess.
