I don't normally post much to this community, though I really should. I noticed in recent days that there wasn't a community for GLBT people residing in Ohio. I started a tiny community called aptly enough gayohio to remedy the situation!

My hope continues to be to make it into an LJ Gay-Straight Alliance for the friends and "family" from the Buckeye State.

Hi everybody:

Just thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Hector, I live in the SF Bay Area, and I just recently became a member of LiveJournal.

I'm a Chub4Chub, I'm 28, 6'7", (yes, real life 6'7") 465, brown hair, brown eyes, masculine, pretty strong, I have a Biggercity profile and my handle there is AlphaOmegaSF, many many many people mistake me for polynesian, samoan, tongan, hawaiian, but I'm full blooded Mexican =).

I like making friends left and right, I enjoy hanging out with buds, going to the bars (yeah, yeah, I know, it's not for everyone), people describe me as friendly, easy going, funny, you usually may find me hanging out in the Castro, Lonestar, Stud Bar or the new event BIG in San Jose. I really am not as intimidating as I may appear, so if you see me out and about come say hi.

Greetings, all.

I just received my invitation to join this particular group. I'm guessing that some of you are also in some other communities on LJ, too.

I'm Doug, self-identified Chub4Chub and Bear-type cub. My interests are very geek-friendly: comic books; role-playing games (tabletop mostly); philosophy; magick and paganism; psychology; music; movies; people-watching; using odd punctuation; and other things. I am a very approachable man, methinks. I love making new friends and the whole process of getting to know another human being. Oh, yeah, and I'm partnered, having been with the same big Bear for nearly 7 years.

Speaking of us, I think I will post a few pics of us. They are NWS (unless partially unclothed fat guys are your business, I guess). He's the walking carpet with the beard; I'm the guy with glasses.

When I was in middle school I watched WWF (now WWE) all the time. I was in lust with Big Boss Man. I think I may have to start watching again if they keep showing this character.

I love it when the fans get up on the mat and start dancing with (the mostly naked) Mr. Johnson. I didn't think straight fans had it in them.

I’ve been two things as long as I can remember: fat and gay. And when I say fat, I mean fat. At my peak I weighed nearly 400 pounds. I was one cheeseburger away from someone tying ropes to me and floating me down New York City’s Fifth Avenue during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

And I’ve learned the hard way that fat and gay go together about as well as Barbara Walters and Star Jones.

I’ve spent the last few years living and socializing in the gay capital of Southern California—West Hollywood. Needless to say, I do not fit in. But I am surprised at the outright hostility, heartlessness, and viciousness I’ve experienced from my thinner peers.

I have been mooed at, pointed at, pushed, called every name in the book, and basically treated like a terrorist in my own city by members of my own community. A bartender at one prominent club called me “fat ass” when taking my drink order. Another refused to serve me at all. I stood there for nearly a half hour while he helped all the pretty thin people. But I was invisible to him. Humiliated, I finally had to ask one of my thinner friends to get my drink for me.

That was one of the few times I was glad fat people get so sweaty—at least I could play off my tears of humiliation as perspiration running down my face.

After years of such abuse I decided I’d had enough. On May 10, I declared “Fat Gregg” to be officially dead. It was on that day that I had gastric bypass surgery. In the four months since then I’ve lost more than 100 pounds.

I could lie and say the decision to undergo life-altering surgery was solely for health reasons. But that wouldn’t be the whole truth. Deep inside, I just want to be thin.

I want to walk down Santa Monica Boulevard without getting insults hurled at me from strangers in passing cars. I want to be able to go to a gay bar and order a drink without being hassled. I want to be treated like a human being in a city that claims to promote acceptance and to embrace differences, but apparently draws the line at fat people. I want to be accepted for who I am, not how I look. I want to be respected.

I want to stop being invisible.

My letter to the editor

I felt very sad when I read the column "Fat Gregg Is Dead" in the current issue of "The Advocate". It reinforces the stereotype that if you are fat and gay that you are made to be invisible in the gay community. That is far from true. There are plenty of happy well adjusted fat gay men in the world.

I am glad that Mr. Paz is facing his health issues by having the gastric bypass surgery, but the surgery is not a cure all for the self esteem issues he mentions.

Some strangers can be cruel. Frankly, their opinion should not matter. Let them yell. It only shows how ignorant they are. Rude service people? Speak to their bosses and let them know that you will be back and expect MUCH better service.

I wish you well Mr Paz. I hope that you get all of the love and support you need.

Coiincidentally, the Associated Big Men's clubs are having their national event in Houston this Labor Day Weekend. There will be plenty of big fat happy gay men there. I will be one of them.
