anger
i've been pondering about the notion of "letting the sun go down while still angry." does anyone know if this has somehow been misinterpreted or misunderstood? i'm sure that the intention was not literally to be defined by time of day, but perhaps more just a general concept of not allowing oneself to remain angry for too long? thoughts?

I take it literally.

We were just talking about this last night at bible study because it is mentioned in Ephesians 4, which we were studying. Tim said that in the old testament it talks about not going to sleep until you have handled your anger. So I guess it's more of a figurative thing in that sense than a time thing. Can you imagine? In the winter here you would have to handle all anger by 5pm!

I think that not going to bed angry just helps us to sleep better and it doesn't let the devil attack our unconsious (sp?) mind.

I live alone, so it's kind of a moot point right now, but my prayer book (Orthodox) has a point in the evening prayers for asking forgiveness from the rest of the family (or monastery).

I work the night shift so literal would need to be adjusted in my case anyway. But I do think it means to as soon as posible get things right, not to hang on to your anger, to avoid holding grudges.
