02:05 pm - New Member!

Hey everyone! I stumbled across this community and thought it'd be cool to join. I'm not really what you'd call Goth, but I read the info-page on and saw how welcoming you guys are just had to join.

I think there's a lot of interesting pieces on here, and I can tell you guys are on fire for Christ, the place where I'm trying to be.  So just saying Hi!

My name is Cici BTW.

xoxo and God Bless!

02:21 pm - my faith story

Below is my faith story. It is quite long. Part of the reason I am sharing it is because I am trying to raise support in order to go to a thing called "master's Commission." Your prayers would be very much appreciated. (For more on masters go here: http://www.jubileemc.org/ ) Please read it to the end. I hope you have extra time. The last few pages are mostly bible verses. But there is a closing paragraph. I apologize ahead of time for what I am sure is an abundance of typos and grammatical errors. Try to ignore them.

Well, my faith story is, in many ways, my life story. There has not been a time where faith has not played a role in my life. I was born on a YWAM (youth with a mission, a missionary training and sending school) base in Texas. My parents met and were married there. When I was about 3, we moved to Minnesota. I am not sure when I accepted Jesus into my life. In my memories, it was like He was always there.

11:55 pm - The Start of The Day

"And it was evening, and it was morning, day one." Genesis 1:5

Why do Jewish holy days begin at nightfall? For example, the Sabbath starts Friday night, and is over Saturday night, and that's considered one day.

According to the Jewish calendar, not only Jewish holy days begin at nightfall, but also every day does. This system does not only effect the calendar, it effects our whole attitude to life.

In the Biblical story of creation, at the end of each day it says, "And it was evening, and it was morning; one day" - "And it was evening, and it was morning; the second day" etc. By mentioning evening before morning, the Torah defines a day as beginning with the nighttime, followed by the morning. Behind this definition of the passage of time is a profound lesson in how to approach the days of our lives.

Everyone agrees that life is full of ups and downs. We go through periods when the sun is shining upon us and we feel on top of the world, only to turn a corner and be faced with difficulties and obstacles that drag us down. Then the bad times pass, and it isn't long before something pleasant comes our way to pick us up again.

The question is: who wins the day - the ups or the downs? Is life essentially a dark series of disappointments dotted by the occasional ray of hope, which is soon to be crushed by another surge of gloominess? Or is life an exhilarating journey upwards towards the light, and the challenges along the way are just temporary obstacles, to make us even stronger in our quest for holiness? Does darkness extinguish light, or does light conquer darkness? Does night follow day or day follow night?

The Biblical view is clear. "And it was evening, and it was morning." First the night, then the day. Darkness is nothing but a pathway to the sunrise hiding behind it. A challenge comes our way only to help us tap in to and reveal our inner strength, which have until now remained dormant.

If you are going through one of those inevitable dark times in your life, know that no matter how dark it may seem, at the end of the day, it is light that will have the last word.

11:44 pm - the End Is Near

Death, a new beginning
No longer the world we once new
Love endures and sin is lost forever
No more lies, only truth
Our hearts will no longer know sadness
The mind will bare no burden
Paradise has been found In Jesus Christ
The end is the beginning

03:02 pm - Thorns and Chains

This is my first post on the Gothic Christian group's page...I hope you all like it...

Some people believe you can be a Christian without suffering from spiritual conviction.  The assumption is that we can all find the Love of Jesus without facing the condemnation for sin.  But this is not the case.  As Paul stated in Romans 3:23, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."  The grim part of that statement is that it is that sin within us that keeps us from fellowship with God.  However, the good side is that Jesus came because of that very sin and died for that sin so we would not have to suffer the penalty of eternal damnation.  It is because of sin that Jesus suffered for you and I.  Nevertheless, as I said, there are those who want to have a relationship with Jesus without getting into all that nastiness of the cross, his blood, his death, his pain, and his suffering.  Yet without Christ all of that "nastiness" would be the fate of the individual.  Life without Christ is grim.  Life with Christ saves you from that grim fate but only because someone took the place as a sacrifice and that someone was Jesus Christ.  Let us be reminded everyday of the crown of thorns.  After all, it was that thorns that broke the chains of sin.  It was his blood that paid the price which weighed so heavily on our blood.  Let us so remind this watching world of its fate and so sear conviction into the sinners that they will cry out and say, ‘intense is the agony when the eye begins to see, when the ear begins to hear, when the pulse begins to pound, when the heart begins to throb, when the soul feels its flesh and the flesh feels its chains.’  It is only when they start to see their chains that we can point them to his thorns.

Christianity without Christ

No creeds, no miracles, no Resurrection: Minister preaches faith without the symbolism

Charles Lewis, National Post  Published: Saturday, May 03, 2008

There is a Bible on a pedestal in Gretta Vosper's West Hill United Church in Toronto. She would prefer it did not have a special place, she said, because it is just a book among other books. In a similar way, the cross that is high above the altar has no special meaning, but there are a few older congregants for whom the Bible and the cross are still nice symbols so there they remain.

Though an ordained minister, she does not like the title of reverend. It is one of those symbols that hold the church back from breaking into the future -- to a time "when the label Christian won't even exist" and the Church will be freed of the burdens of the past. To balance out those symbols of the past inside West Hill, there is a giant, non-religious rainbow tapestry just behind the altar and multi-coloured streamers hang from the ceiling.

"The central story of Christianity will fade away," she explained. "The story about Jesus as the symbol of everything that Christianity is will fade away."

The head of the United Church of Canada, David Giuliano, who went to divinity school with Ms. Vosper 20 years ago, said if he felt the way that she does, he would not be a minister. But it is not his job to condemn, he said, and the church is structured in such a way that complaints have to come from the congregation before any action can be taken. And so far there have been no complaints. He also sees the United Church, considered the most liberal of the mainline Protestant churches, as broad enough to encompass a wide range of theologies.

Even Rev. Giuliano agrees that the name Christian -- which carries the baggage of colonialism and other ills -- should probably be phased out. Instead, he would replace "Christian" with "Follower of the Way" or "Follower of Jesus."

But it is an absolute certainty that Ms. Vosper would not go for "Follower of Jesus."

Ms. Vosper does not believe in the Virgin Birth, the Resurrection, the miracles and the sacrament of baptism. Nor does she believe in the creeds, the presence of Christ in communion or that Jesus was the Son of God.

In With or Without God, her book that was formally launched this week, she writes that Jesus was a "Middle Eastern peasant with a few charismatic gifts and a great posthumous marketing team."

The Bible is used in her services, but it gets rewritten to be more contemporary and speak to more people. Even the Lord's Prayer -- also known as the Our Father -- does not make the cut because it creates an image of a God who intervenes in human existence. And then there is the "Father" part that is not inclusive language and carries with it the notion of an overbearing tyrant who condemns people to hell.

So why exactly does she still call herself a Christian, let alone a minister?

"I could leave the Church because I don't hold those orthodox understandings," she said.

"[But] I think that in a generation or so we might stop using the term Christian, and I hope, perhaps we will stop using labels for every religious tradition. There is nothing wrong with a faith tradition evolving.

"And I believe that's what we're doing. It's been evolving for a long time but we're afraid to acknowledge that so this is merely the next iteration of what Christianity needs to be."

She envisions a time when there is no religious divisions and everyone shares in their common values and their only differences are cultural. Still, she said there is no conflict with this and being in the church.

"The church is extremely important because it can be a transformative element in individuals' lives and communities," she said. "And that was the root of what the Christian Church was about: transforming the way people see themselves in relation

to the communities around them and in relation to each other and about living that in community. Christianity took over that story and manipulated it into a very different story."

Ms. Vosper believes most liberal ministers do not really believe in orthodoxy and see things like the Resurrection or the miracles as metaphors, not real events. She is also chair of a group called the Canadian Centre For Progressive Christianity, which also espouses a vague form of religious belief, in which they offer a challenge to the church to do a "complete overhaul of the beliefs it has been carrying about for the last several hundred years.

"It's not that we're trying to do something new. It's that we're trying to catch up on a thousand years of backlogged progress files that have yet to be inputted into the 21st century."

In With or Without God, Ms. Vosper writes: "[It is time to live] in the current paradigm, being progressive enough to let go of the beliefs and traditions to which we've had to tip our hats and curtsy in the past but which can no longer prevail in our contemporary world."

Ms. Vosper did not change her views over time but said she felt the same way when she took her divinity degree at Queen's University in 1990. She said when the creed was mentioned, which contains those declarations of faith that acknowledge basic Christian tenants, it was uncomfortable. "I fled when I had to read the creed," she said.

For all of this, she still feels rooted in the church. She still loves the stories, metaphors though they may be. And she still measures her life against the meaning of those metaphors.

The focus of her "spiritual" life is love. And since love is the common bond between all people, it is really the only thing worth believing in.

"Here in the context of seeking out harmony with all things, the purest understanding of those values that enhance and sanctify life becomes the foremost spiritual practice," she writes.

"We call it love, radically inclusive love. It is here, in the caring, challenging, prophetic role with which it is so familiar that the church can really shine."

11:17 am - Christian podcast

Hi there! I've been a member of this community for a while and I just wanted to share something with you all that I thought might interest you.

I am a part of a ministry called GodlyGals (you can also find us at [info]godly_gals) that focuses on equipping believers, providing a place for fellowship, and encouraging one another in our walks with Christ. It has been a phenomenal five years and God had blessed the ministry so much. Our growth lately has been such an encouragement and I look forward to the future as we move forward to where the Lord would have us go.

We have recently ventured into podcasting and it's been so great. We get to communicate with members of our community live, as well as people who just happen to drop in. We've met so many great people that way. It's really been amazing. In our podcast we talk about a variety of topics regarding the Christian faith. I really just wanted to let this community know about it so that you could stop by for one of our live shows or listen to it later (at www.godlygals.com/blog) if you can't make it to the live show. The wider our audience, the better the show.

Feel free to share this with your friends!

11:09 pm - Denver

I have been a part of this community for several years now, but have been content to watch the posts roll by. I have decided that now is the perfect time to throw my voice into the ring.
I have recently relocated to the Mile High City. I believe each step of this move to be orchestrated by my God, now it is my time to create my life here. My boxes are unpacked and my schedule is empty. Way too empty for my taste.
I suppose all this is a long way of saying “Hello! Is anybody out there?!” I am in desperate need of company to cure me of my cabin fever. Is there anybody in the area that would be interested in a cup of coffee or showing me the gothic hang outs?
Thanks for the support and (hopefully) I will see you all soon!

06:47 am - Prayer/Miracle request

Pray for God to drop me $150 today. I have to have it today and have no way of my own of getting it, but it's for my move-in fee that is due today and my paycheck was $250 short. Pray that God somehow, in some absolutely miraculous way that shows He's the master of all, can do this for me. Please pray!

Thanks

09:50 pm - Awesome God

Moses and the Israelites were in the desert, but what was he going to do with them? They had to be fed, and feeding 2 or 3 million people requires a lot of food.

According to the Quartermaster General in the Army, it is reported that Moses would have needed 1500 tons of food each day. To bring that much food each day, two freight trains, each at least a mile long, would be required! They would also need firewood for cooking the food. This would take 4000 tons of wood and a few more freight trains, each a mile long, just for one day. And remember, they were forty years in transit...

And Oh yes! They would have to have water. If they only had enough to drink and wash a few dishes, it would take 11,000,000 gallons each day and a freight train with tank cars, 1800 miles long, just to bring water!

And then another thing!

They had to get across the Red Sea at night. Now, if they went on a narrow path, double file, the line would be 800 miles long and would require 35 days and nights to get through. So there had to be a space in the Red Sea, 3 miles wide so that they could walk 5000 abreast to get over in one night.

But then, there is another problem... each time they camped at the end of the day, a campground two-thirds the size of the state of Rhode Island would be required, or a total of 750 square miles long. Think of it! This much space for camping...

Did Moses figured all this out before he left Egypt? I think not! You see, Moses believed in Yahveh! Yahveh took care of all these things for him!

Now do you think Yahveh has any problem taking care of all your needs? His love is always with you and His promises are true. When you give Him all your cares, You know He will see you through.

Our God is an Awesome God! So when the road you're traveling on seems difficult at best, just remember to trust and obey Him ~ Yahveh Yashua will take care of the rest.

I used to listen to this song endlessly as a child. I thought I'd share it for

Just as some would wonder how Christianity and Goth go together, I remember this pop hit confusing some people way back.

11:37 pm - just some thoughts

i'm in a basic theology class right now, and it's really kinda cool. but lately, in my reading, it's been coming up that a)letting others be placed over you is just as sinful as pride, and b)we were meant for relationships.

i don't doubt the truth of these statements (though i'd really like to know more about WHY the first one is wrong) but they are really starting to bug me. i know we are meant for relationships. i know we are. but there is so much in me that just screams that every relationship that actually means anything will end and that it might not be worth the hurt and trouble. i know that everyone is messed up, but i just seem so much more screwed up than everybody else, and that i doom every relationship that i'm in just because i'm in it. i'm struggling with the idea that we were meant to be together in relationships because every longing i have for those kinds of relationships seems to be such a bad thing, that i'm being needy or clingy or unfair to the other person because i want to be with them. sometimes i do go overboard, i know, but where is that line?? where is that line between being clingy and the healthy desire for relationships??

12:19 am - hi i am new here..

my name is laura.. and i was looking for a community that was open minded, and loved god.i always feel weird, because most people who go to church or are christians seem to think you cant still listen to music that is non christian. and i also like to write darker poetry,i dont live the most beautiful life. but i also like to write for god,and how he makes me feel so uplifted, and how he loves me no matter how imperfect i am. so i was hoping maybe this could be a good community to be in..this is also a poem i wrote..sorry i do not know how to put this behind a lj cut..

~ready to believe faithfully~

are you ready to believe
or does Jesus have to hit you
with his word,in order for you to see
the light,his presence
the color of faith more vibrant:
than any color of the rainbow
if we could all just feel
no one would lack spirituality
no one would be alone
for he would become apart of every ones soul
he fills me to my top
leaves me over flowing with freedom
because i know he will accept me
and love me unconditionally
there are no doubts
to me that is amazing
truth is his love
for that i choose to believe faithfully!

03:01 am - Share your Testimonies

You know over on myspace at the ChristianGoth group over there, there is a thread for testimonies. It is a small thread that has gotten barried over time by other threads. I think this is an excellent thread and I wanted to bring it over to lj.

I think everyone should share their testimonies. Post it, it can be short or long.

God tells us in his Word that we are to share our testimonies with each other to build each other up. I want to revive that spirit and encourage this to happen.

I am currently compiling my testimony (it is really long) and I will be posting it within the next day or so.

Please share yours!
