12:05 pm - must've been a typo

evilgrins
8:59 PM 6/27/09 · Rented a bunch of movies and one of them had this trailer on it that looked pretty cool. It's an action flick with lots of martial arts and gunplay. It was called The Fifth Commandement and it looks remarkably like Bangkok Dangerous from what I could tell...

...haven't seen that yet either, just the trailer.

At the end of the trailer they flash some intense scenes, inbetween each flash is a word. The words are "Thou Shall Not Kill".

That really got my attention.

I don't have the 10 Commandments memorized or anything but I keep this utility on my PDA called "Big Ten". It's got buttons in Roman numerals, one for each commandment. Handy little thing but only if you keep it for a long time because these sorts of things don't come around everyday. Hell, sometimes not every month. Anyway, after watching the trailer those words kept bugging me so I decided to check.

"Thou Shall Not Kill" is actually the 6th commandment, though I have the wording as "Do not murder". Personally I like my way better because if you were really going to stick to the more archaic, and possibly badly translated, wording then you'd absolutely have to be a vegetarian...

...the 5th commandment is actually to honor your mother and father.

Guess whoever made the film didn't bother to followup on their research. That or not everyone lists them in the same order.

12:50 pm - Wow!

evilgrins
10:22 AM 6/24/09 · This past weekend Mom got an email from one of the Aunts and she shared it with me. It was a link, the "clicky" at the bottom of this post, that went to an impressive display of The Sistine Chapel. It's interactive with motion controls...though you can use your mouse in a pinch if you hold down the left button and it can work with the scroller on the mouse if you have that.

You can look up, left, right, and move backwards and forward. Only played around with it for a few minutes so I'm not sure if you can move around things and see behind them but I kind of doubt it. It's more like one of those online real estate deals so you can check out a property instead of going to it.

It's not CGI but an impressive detailed 3D photographic representation.

Anyway, thought I'd share. If it doesn't load up right, first time it was kinda blurry, just hit refresh.

From this weeks Real Time with Bill Maher, Paul Begala said "We Catholics believe that sex is a vile, disgusting, perverted thing that we save only for the ones we truly love."

I'm paraphrasing a bit.

1:15 pm - Unspoken Truth

broken_skai

In Jesus' name,

Heavenly Father, forgive us for the sins, the transgressions,  and the iniquities that we commit against you daily. Forgive our hypocrisy. Your word says that you are faithful to forgive, and that the depths of your grace are unsearchable, and that your mercies are made brand new every day. Help us to repent.....not once, but daily. Help us to live our lives in repentance and brokenness, for your word says that all have come short of the glory God. Teach us your ways O lord, and give us hearts that are able to receive correction by your precious Holy Spirit. Help us to receive the fullness of your truth. Help us to share your truth in your love, grace, and in fullness as led by your Spirit. Show us how to accept and love you for who the Spirit reveals you to be....and not for how we imagine you to be in our vain imaginations and understandings. Help us Heavenly Father....in Jesus' name help us. For none are ready.....

11:47 am - mistaken impressions

evilgrins
10:11 PM 6/10/09 · Caught two religious themed episodes of Law & Order in as many days and the one I'm watching right now has to do with The Rapture.

*cue spooky music*

An email is released from a guy that subscribes to unraptured.com, which probably isn't a real website but feel free to look if you want, that informs this guy his uncle killed his aunt. The uncle panics when he finds out the email went out because he thinks The Rapture has occured. The email was released from the website which is run by 3 people that live in 3 different states. At least 2 of them have to log in once every 2 days or the site assumes The Rapture has occured and sends all the stored emails to whoever they were addressed to...

...the assumption being that if The Rapture has finally happened then all the true believers have been physically taken off the Earth and ascended into Heaven.

I have a couple of problems with this.

My knowledge of The Rapture is remarkably limited. I vaguely skimmed the Left Behind series. There was a really disturbing movie starring Mimi Rogers (think that's her name) way back when. Haven't read a Bible in years, more like decades, but even back when I did whatever part dealing with The Rapture (is it odd I keep capitalizing that?) didn't make much of an impact on me. All I know of it is that the 'true believers' are those that fully accept Jesus into their minds and souls.

Which kind of leaves everybody else on Earth on their own to do...whatever.

The Bible teaches that we are all made in God's image but a lot of people don't believe that's the whole one head and two legs and two arms deal so much as the soul. The whole belief that everyone that is a true believer is going to bodily raise off the ground and ascend seems silly. Seems more likely they'd just die on the spot and their souls would ascend, being what it is Heaven isn't so much of a place for flesh & blood types.

The uncle that had the email on the website confessed in it that he'd murdered his wife. Now he may well be a true believer, so far as this story goes, but he's still a murderer. He was storing her body in a huge freezer in his living room! I've long had a problem with the notion that you can commit horrible crimes (murder for example) but so long as you truly believe, or confess all those crimes before you croak, you've got a get out of jail (Hell) free card. Personally I don't think it works, that it's more likely a propoganda deal put forth by the Church and people still goto Hell because ultimately they have to account to a higher authority than is found on Earth

Of course, that could just be me.

While a much more minor note, the whole deal with the website is a little flawed. Say The Rapture actually does happen. What's the point of sending an email to your loved ones? Seems a little elitist to just assume you're going to ascend but they're going to be stuck on Earth.

By the by, is there really a convention called RaptureCon?

10:39 am - The Person of the Holy Spirit

broken_skai
When I got saved I originally thought that was all there was to receive, that is until the Lord began to reveal Himself to me. Little by little and at various points in my walk I've received revelations of the Lord, from different pastors, teachers, the reading of His word, prayers, dreams, visions.....and looking back I realize how little of Him I had when I first got saved, how little I understood as a new born in Christ. Even now (years later) there is still so much I don't understand and so much that I lack. There is still so much of Him that I need in my life. God is bigger than our experience....much bigger than any experience we've had with Him. We limit the the Lord to our level, to what He has done in history, to what He has done through others. Our Lord is greater than this.

7:43 pm - Angels

broken_skai
A while back I heard a pastor teach on spirits, and spiritual warfare. It was comforting to hear him share some of his personal experiences. I believe him because I've had similar experiences. I really felt alone in that there were very few people (saved or outside of the Lord) that I could talk to about these things.

Angels, demons, spirits..... these things are real, the scriptures speak of them. God Himself is Spirit. There is a Kingdom of Light. There is also a kingdom called Darkness. There is a Heaven and there is a Hell.

Whether people want to except these things or not, they are real. And I believe a time is soon coming when people are going to have to deal with these things one way or another... especially if they are seriously seeking God. I once heard a pastor say that many Christians have had attacks of the spiritual kind from the enemy, but are silent about them for fear of what others may think.... especially fellow Christians.

7:37 pm - Demonology

broken_skai
Now, anyone whose understanding of God is grounded in science, theology, history, religion, philosophy, poetry, etc. usually will argue these scriptures to no end. With those individuals it seems that science, theology, history, religion, etc. takes precedence over spiritual understanding.... When in reality those things should be subject to the Spirit. For God seeks those who will worship Him in Spirit and in truth. One cannot know God unless they go through the avenues of His Spirit. In doing so they must acknowledge the things of the spirit and the spiritual realm, because God is Spirit (John 4:24). So I believe that those whose minds are already sternly made up, and those who have no other intention than to argue have no part in this. This post clearly isn't for them. It is however for those that are tender-hearted, and honestly seeking the Lord with all their heart, mind, spirit....with everything they've got, even to the exclusion of their immediate understanding.

12:04 pm - a hatching I shall go

evilgrins
9:46 PM 6/2/09 · I text fairly obsessively. Occasionally I post the content of the more wacky ones to my journal. In response to this I've gotten requests from people on my friendlist to get in on my texting and I get texts from them as well.

Hang on. I am going somewhere with this.

The other day demented texting roosterDarkBeethoven sent me a text that read as follows:

"According to Genesis 1:20-22, the chicken came before the egg."

Been having a number of chats regarding time travel lately, largely due to Terminator Salvation.

Don't have a Bible handy.

Is this true?

6:01 pm - My Views on Fantasy Role Playing

rgspiritwalker
I posted this at my "MySpace" blog, and thought it might be of interest to this community.

So, in order to avoid any confusion pertaining to my stance on the subject of "fantasy role playing games", I once again put pen to paper. I find it far easier to write about my personal convictions and ethics, than to try to explain them verbally impromptu.

To begin, there are some who believe anything to do with fantasy is evil and of Satanic origin, and I must point out that I am not one of those folks. Yet, I do understand why they have drawn their conclusion. Many aspects of the works of fantasy have pagan origins, but that doesn't mean that we as writers of fantasy have to produce works which have the same purpose as those in the past. Just because certain civilizations worshipped stone idols, doesn't mean that every single cut stone is an evil thing. This can apply not only to fantasy literary works, but to the world of role playing, as well.

I shall begin with the best known role playing game, and the first one to break ground in the genre, "Dungeons and Dragons". I do not believe that D&D started out as an inherently evil thing. It seems to have begun with heavy influences from Tolkien, (a writer who was a known Christian). As it went through many updates and revisions however, many of the people who contributed to it seemed to have been influenced by Satanic and dark forces of witchcraft. Although they claim that some of the monsters are based on the Judeo-Christian beliefs of devils and demons, the content of the different monster manuals has become so infiltrated with influence from the Dark Crafts, one can literally feel the malevolent spirits attached to them. For this reason, I do not encourage anyone to play the game. On the other hand, I do not condemn the people who play the game in such a way as to omit the darker influences of it. I just caution them about it. I was a Dungeon Master for five years. I know its temptation.

Do I caution everyone to quit fantasy role playing all together? Not at all. My caution is that you be careful and examine the content of the game, as well as the leader who is conducting the play. The way I feel about role playing in general, is that it is a wonderful tool for exercising the imagination. To play these games well, requires great inner vision and creativity. Hopefully, new games will be developed with a far more Christian friendly platform.

I attempted to create such a game years ago, but sadly I was still far too influenced by the darkness of my D&D experience. Even though the system of the game made for excellent play and freedom for the players, the content ruined it as far as being 'Christian friendly'. After playing it for a couple of years, I realized how dark it was and threw the game away. My eldest son however, saw that the system was very advanced. Unknown to me, he saved the system and threw away the content which made it so bad.

Now, that I have had a much closer walk with Christ, I understand that it wasn't the genre of fantasy or even role playing that was the problem. It was the evil content creeping in which has made them such a pagan field. Hence, my game I designed had good points to it and one of my comics Lost Legends of Whoelterran is set in the world of that game.

My son and I have talked it over and we are considering pooling our resources to make a new pen and paper RPG which really will be presented from a Christian perspective. I will continue to pray about this because I want to be sure about it before I proceed. Should I?

Jesus' name was not actually 'Jesus'. I forget the reason but it was entered into the Bible that way due to some concern of common name confusion. His name was actually Yeshua. So, even if you take into consideration his last name wasn't actually 'Christ' either...

...how is saying "Jesus Christ" taking the Lord's name in vain??

1 Thessalonians 4
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

3:58 pm - ....and the books were opened....

broken_skai
Revelation 20
11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

I've read about the Lamb's book of life throughout different portions of the book of Revelation. But what of these other books that humanity will be judged out of mentioned in Revelation 20:12? I believe that there are at least four mentioned in scripture.
