| About: | Welcome to the new and improved Chihuahuas community! Please check the memories and read the FAQs before posting questions since we all get annoyed when you ask where to get a teacup chi. You might also want to consider buying "Chihuahuas for Dummies" as many of us have found it to be an invaluable resource while getting to know our little ones. If you are looking to acquire a chihuahua please consider rescuing a dog from your local rescue and transport group. Before we go any further the members of this community would like to point out the breed standard for the chihuahua. You can read the official breed document on the American Kennel Club website here A breed standard is the guide that defines the look and build of a certain breed, including weight restrictions. Chihuahuas are part of the "Toy" group of dogs. Community Rule #1 - There is NO SUCH THING as a "teacup" chihuahua. The chi standard states that your dog should be under 6lbs. A 2lbs chihuahua is NOT an anomaly and you are urged NOT to pay more for a dog listed as a teacup. This encourages trend breeders to hike their prices even more and sell these lovely creatures as accessories rather than companions. We do recognize that some breeders have created their own sizing & price system for puppies where they have chosen to use the term teacup as category for their dogs. If you choose to purchase a dog from these people please understand that you do not have an actual teacup chihuahua but rather a regular chihuahua who was bred to be very small and may stay quite small as an adult. These tiny dogs are very fragile and not recommended for families with small children. We do not discriminated against non standard dogs and we urge you to do your own research before committing to this type of dog. They are a lot of work but offer more love than you can probably handle! :) Rule #2 - Please try and use correct language, grammar and spell check. We're not trying to be major jerks here and we know that English isn't everyone's first language, but using correct grammar and language ensures that what you are trying to say is flawlessly communicated to the rest of us. The occasional typo isn't a big deal and we can usually ignore some casual mistakes but paragraphs are your friend! Please be considerate of those trying to read what you have to say, we really do want to know! Rule #3 - Please try and put large, or multiple photos behind a cut. Here's how to do it Rule #4 - Let's try to get along. We all have bad days and some of the older members are easily irritated by n00bs who don't read the faqs or search back so you'll have to rough it out a bit. We're all here for the same reason so for the most part let's try to keep flaming to a minimum, unless totally called for.
