I got a bingo!

I volunteer for Alaska Dog and Puppy Rescue. Saturdays we have adoption clinics.
I love the group to pieces, I really do. Finding homes for dogs and puppies that the pound was ready to put down is an amazing thing. But (and there's always a but, isn't there?), we're so desperate for volunteers that we'll take pretty much anyone. So, when a girl scout troupe decided they wanted to use us to earn their community service merit badges (or whatever), they were welcomed right in.
Now don't get me wrong- I don't really have a problem with girl scouts. It's a good program. However, all of these girls turned out to be proud future breeders.

I was chatting with the younger volunteers when the girl scouts came in. One of them had brought up little children, and I was talking about how I don't like children, and never want to have any- so on and so forth. The girl scouts look at each other, say something among themselves, and then one girl tells the volunteer standing right next to me, "Tell her she's going to regret saying that."

Beg pardon honey?
First of all, I was standing right there. It's not like she couldn't have said that to my face.
Second, I wasn't talking to her. I was talking to someone else, and she hadn't been welcomed into her conversation. If I had wanted her two cents on the subject, I would have asked.
Third, the girl is a teenybopper. Who the hell is she to be telling me what I'm going to be regretting?

Has anyone else ever been bingoed by a kid?

Nope. First one that does is gonna regret it.

She's rude for butting in to your conversation, for one -- I was always taught not to do that, particularly if it was adults talking amongst themselves. She's extra-rude for offering an unsolicited opinion on something that she has no experience with or even a good concept of. And to talk as if you were not there -- what, because you have a point of view that doesn't mesh with the one she's been exposed to, you don't exist?? -- was incredibly rude. Were I responsible for this little bitchlet, I would have scolded her loudly and publicly and required her to apologize for her rudeness.

I'm just trying to fathom this statement: "Tell her she's going to regret saying that."
How are you going to regret saying that? Much less thinking/feeling/living that?
Makes my head stutter and grind gears.

Being bingoed by kids doesn't strike me as something that would be uncommon. The breeder brigade gets 'em pretty young.

Wow. Kids are kind of dopey like that though. They assume they have the right to join in any conversation.
Then again, that's when they're, like, 4 years old.
I guess I'd just say 'I wasn't talking to you so mind your own business.' But I'm too much of a wimp, really.
That's never happened to me, but once my niece poked me in the belly and told me I was pregnant. I woulda been offended, except a) she's 2 and b) her mum's pregnent so she was apparently doing that to every woman she saw that week...

Obviously that they're nothing but mindless breeders with nothing better to do!

To the OP, I feel for you.
I've had children say the same thing to me. I kindly tell them that if I was to have a child, I hope it doesn't turn out like them.

In Australia, they still teach knots and such. And we go to campfires and sing along. Innocuous stuff.

Which Girl Scouts (or Guides) were you in?
My entire group of girl guides were a bunch of Pyros

Sad to say that 6 years later, I'm still a bit of a pyro..
Good old North Brisbane (Burpengary) Girl guides, I don't think any of us have lost spark ^_^

I don't even remember... rural New South Wales somewhere.

Heh XD I was never allowed to light a fire for good reasons [i.e. I'd probably accidentally set my clothes on fire as well]. I guess we must have been extra good girls?

I would have turned to the kid and said to her directly, "What makes you think that?" Being challenged sometimes makes them back down.

What a little brat!

I HAVE been bingoed by a child, in fact. My nine-year-old sister finds it appropriate to remind me at every opportunity that I'd better get married and start having kids RIGHT AWAY because I'm so HIDEOUSLY OLD. (I'm 27.) She even told me once that I should go on eHarmony to find someone to father my children. When I was that age I would never EVER have had the cheek to question an adult's life choices, but kids these days are awfully full of themselves.

(Ha, I just said 'kids these days'! Unironically! Maybe I AM old.)

I am a nanny and am pretty open about my childfree status, but kids dont get it either.
I had a kid ask me once if i was pregnant and when i said no he asked why not? i said i didnt want kids right now and he asked again why not. i said i was too young (trying to be nice about it) and he said I should get pregnant tomorrow. I said if I did i could take care of him anymore and he said it just meant he would have a friend to play with (which was kind of pathetic)
it was just like a but i want to be a grandparent bingo!! but i dont get those cause my parents are awesome

Hahahaha (not to diminish your annoyance, but WOW)

I was JUST talking with my SO the other day about how my experience in Girl Guides was breederific. While my brother in Scouts got to go winter camping and do all the cool stuff, we were learning how to sew and pour tea correctly and all that shit. GAWD, I hated it so much. Even at that age, I knew the bastard program was Stepford-wife-camp.

Also, boo-urns to that stupid kid. I would have been furious.

Sort of. I've been asked if I have any and why I don't, but not exactly "bingoed" as in given a presumptuous prediction of my life.

It's funny when you tell kids that you don't want any of children of your own, because then they look at you warily like you might eat them.

*Insert standard disclaimer about my advanced age*

I'd have gotten a sour look and a pointed, "Do not interrupt when grown-ups are talking." My nieces and nephews hear the same thing from me.

And their parents. And pretty much all their adult relatives.

That's a bit of instruction Little Miss needs but has clearly never gotten.

I was talking about how I don't like children, and never want to have any- so on and so forth.

It's vaguely possible that she was offended by the first part of your statement (the one about your dislike for children). I'd personally find it strange if someone admitted to their vehement dislike for kids when they were surrounded by sproglets.

Again, I wasn't there. I don't know how she acted or what else she said. Perhaps she was 100% concerned about your childless future, but there is a small chance that this wasn't the case here.

"Are you married?" "Do you have any kids?"

They are pretty surprised when I say NO I'm not married, I don't have any kids and I don't even have a boyfriend!

Most teachers who are women my age are married and are working on their first kid. I think to myself, God they must be so stressed out! A husband, pregnant, house and car payment, and a classroom to take care of!!! I'm happy that I dont have all those responsibilities at my age...I'd probably have a panic attack.

I don't dislike kids...they're cool for a while, but I just dont' want one for my own haha.

I read it like that kid had mob connections and because you said that soon you'll be wearing concrete shoes and swimmin' with the fishes. lol

In somewhat defense of YOUNGER kids - I think they may bingo just because they really don't know any better. I mean to them having kids and such is natural as they are kids and are surrounded by kids so hence (most) everyone around them are either parents or children. But older kids like teenagers = nah, that's just rude.

Never am around kids, so I'm generally not bingo'd by 'em, but when I was a kid, I was bingo'd by the kids my age. Well, that was once. I unconsciously put on a "WTF?" expression, and was utterly speechless, and don't remember what happened after that.
