Ha, a childfree vs. Parents message board. So far there are only parents in there making comments. I found the link on Brats! I think I may join, just to answer the "why do childfree people not want kids in a grocery store?" question.

Sorry if this has been posted before.

Sounds like they're trying to compete with Tanglewood, a board started up by a few parents and some alumns from EZCF.

Good luck, dearies. BBB/ATF started up as a reactionary board to EZCF. Wonder where it is now?

There was. BBB was "Breeders Bite Back" and was created solely in reaction to EZCF. Yet many of the people who signed up, parents and CF, did so in an attempt to build some understanding. It worked on a limited basis, but there were some breeders who were furious that the CF didn't just roll over and say, Oh, yes, you're right. We CF are evil, selfish shits, and we see the error of our ways!

One of the parents from BBB started another board (Gilleoin's Island), where the CF and parents (who definitely are not BNPs) come together, talk about stuff, discuss politics, and otherwise enjoy each other's company. When that happened, there was a mass exodus from BBB and the board imploded once the psychos were left to screech amongst themselves. It died in February 2004.

Currently, a member of EZCF has started another board called "Tanglewood", which has CF and PNB mods and invites discussion of such topics as what to do when your kid starts screaming in a restaurant. (The consensus: take it out NOW). The woman who started MTM was banned from Tanglewood for several nasty posts and PMs to the members. This is her idea of getting us back, even though the parents on the board called her a waste of protoplasm too!

*blinks*

I just read a few posts, and I'm all up for debates 'n stuff, but are those people *breathing*?

Sometimes, it's like childbirth causes people to lose their mind. "What's the big deal about kids in restaurants?"

Hrm, when you're having a romantic dinner with your SO, holding hands, gazing into each others' eyes... then you hear MOMMYIWANNACHICKENFINGERIFIDON'TGETONEIMGONNASCREAMAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.... you know, it just kind of ruins your entree, $30 bottle of wine, and quite frankly, your night. Take 'em to Fridays before 8 pm (your kids really don't need to be exposed to drunkenness, truly) where they belong.

BLAH.

I vote 'no'. Did you see the thread about paying taxes? Why do CF people complain about paying taxes when they have to pay taxes too! Duh!

Sorry, that place is infested by people who commit the cardinal sins:

- identifying themselves by their ability to shit out sprog with s/n's like "Austin'sMommy" etc.

- using 'lol' as a punctuation device.

- possessing a less than stellar grasp of grammar.

- having scary signature pics of their unattractive selves grasping unappealing, jam-smeared goldensprogs to their heaving bosoms.

- commiting breeder bingo-ism with every horribly parsed sentence.

- sounding in every way like half-educated, vapid twats.

By all means go in there and fight the good fight, but I'll pass.

Amen to the identity crisis. Why does someone have to put down that they are "someone's mommy". Why not your own name, or has the kid stolen your identity?

I have no idea. It's like revelling in the loss of self that comes with having kids. I can't identify with that at all.

It reminds me of the really sub people in D/s relationships who identify themselves only as Master D's Slave or whatever. (I'm all for kinky sex, but, hey, I'm not giving up my name to anyone. Ever.)

It's an equal loss of self, and an equal perverse sense of pride that comes with it. Only with kids, you don't even get the orgasms, and the spankings are not nearly as much fun.

I thought so too. Do they have no identity beyond their child? Do they have nothing else to define or describe themselves? Geez.

I took a minute to read the thread in which "Sarae" brings up [my_kid's]_mommy as an SN. AustinsMommy makes me cringe.

She foams and rages at great length that her SN doesn't matter and she's some profoundly deep individual and she wants to get to know people, not screen names.

And gets HORRIBLY offended when someone points out that maybe, just maybe, your screen name affects the impression that others get of you.

And at no point offers the slightest indication that she has an individual identity, or can say anything that doesn't parrot other breeders, or can spell, or is anything BUT the mother of the Texas state capital.

Is "goescrunch" completely insane to point out that screen name choices affect image? I think "lilsquishy" is a silly, frivolous name. In life, I'm probably not as silly as the name implies, but I could see how one might get that impression. I'm more likely to think that "SeXXXyChiXXX69" is a 14-year-old on AOL than a rocket scientist. Anyone capable of thinking for herself could figure that one out.

I went ahead and joined and responded to a few things. I also pointed out that I would engage in thoughtful debate. Nothing drives me more insane that name calling debates. It's childish. We'll see what happens...but the minute they resort to rhetoric that is on par with your run-of-the-mill adolescent I'm out.

What strikes me is the stark contrast between the two factions on that board. Without exception, the CF people seem intellegent and articulate, presenting reasonable and logical arguments, and the parents... less so.

Draw your own conclusions.

"Austins_Mommy" seems to be living in a different dimension where the CF have taken control and children are no longer allowed into stores or restaurants.
Her and Austin survive in a crude shack in the deep woods. Coming into contact with anyone else would alert the BRAT PATROL, who monitor the town's surface from their mobile headquarters hovering 100 miles above the earth's surface. Should she be spotted as a Mommy, their unmarked black helicopters would take her out in a minute, and tie her tubes as well. If she comes within 10 feet of a childfree person, their eyes glow red and they start hissing.
She has managed to set up her internet link with spare parts she found in a dumpster (between midnight feedings, of course) and now posts on this message board to alert the rest of the world of the evil Childfree movement, before it's TOO LATE!.

I need to find out where she lives, I want to move there.

lol, no kidding.

Seriously, they all seem to have pretty childish ideas of the CF peoples. Yes, some of us are complete and utter bitches. However, others of you are just darling people who simply don't want children.

Then there is the vast variety covering every shade of the rainbow in between!!!

:) I'm one of the bitches, in case no one caught on to that...

I too would like to express my disgust for SNs such as "AustinsMommy". It's like someone referring to Joe Whoever's wife as Mrs. Joe Whoever. Or, for a more appropriate parallel, Joe Whoever's wife referring to herself as such. Can you have an identity of your own or can you only be defined by your husband or children?

I think there's an appropriate time and place for identifying yourself using your significant other/child.

Scene 1: Your child is attending another child's birthday party.
mom: Hi! I'm Josh's mom.
Host mother now knows who to hunt down if josh starts acting like a brat. that's all she needs to know.

Scene 2: A company dinner or picnic
woman: Hi. I'm John's Wife (or I'm Mrs. Smith)
Other people are now clued in to who the woman is and why the hell she's there in the first place.

Scene 3: An internet message board for star trek fans
woman: Hi. Call me MomofJoshWifeofJohn!
Other people have no idea who the fuck josh or john are... and still don't know who the woman is.

You can reference your ability to have children/get hitched only if it is relevant to the situation: i.e. the person you are talking to is familiar with the other party and not you.

Ugh. All the CF people are just saying - "We don't mind kids, we just want them to behave." and the moos are weedling out a thousand excuses and saying 'my child would never do that!'. Pah.

And I swear, I know I saw an LJ with the name austins_mommy before. I can't find it right now, but I know I saw it. I swear she has an LJ!

Eh, there are a LOT of kids named Austin nowadays, and most of them have the type of mom that would use that as a screen name.

There are probably a gazillion "Austins_mommy" people out there.

Bullshit! They ALWAYS say, "My kid would never do that!" So why do so many kids still behave like little shits? I find it difficult to believe that these people are in that very small majority of parents who actually raise their kids right, and NOT to be a pain in the ass to the rest of society.

The thing is, people with kids and people without have completely different standards of what's ok, and what's out of line.

A good friend of mine once took her daughter along for dinner hosted by some friends of theirs. The baby cried for 10 minutes that night. My friend is thinking "She only cried for 10 minutes out of several hours!" The host and hostess, who didn't have kids at the time, were no doubt thinking "She cried for a whole ten minutes at the top of her lungs!"

Well, we're trying to keep it civil. Although they are baiting us, as soon as one of us snaps on them, they'll have "proof" that we are all evil and unreasonable.
