So proud of my little girl
We were out and about today with the kids. Took them to a dog park for a leg stretch and potty break. Well, Gracie doesn't like pooping in strange places (she gets that from me I think). She'll hold it unless we encourage her (generally by massaging the area a little). So I reached down to check her belly to see if she had to go and Gracie just rolled right over on her back! Right smack dab in the middle of a strange area. This is my fierce little girl who, just a few years ago, acted like she'd rather rip my face off than let me touch her. We've come a long way together.

I see her now- Ok lets get this done! LOL. They are so funny-she sounds like a step daughter to you. "I was here before you and will be here after you, thats MY daddy!" I think so many people forget they have feels too.. So you must be a rockin good step mama for her to have gotten used to you!

"Ok lets get this done!" LOL. There probably was some of that.

We're her second home. She used to be part of a (ex) room mate's breeding pack (he had anywhere from 22-56 dogs). She was mid-level in the pack so had to be a fighter.

For the first two years of her life she had no real socialization. Somehow despite (or probably rather because of) her fear masquerading as ferociousness I felt deeply connected to her. I spent weeks getting her to be accepting of love. Then one day she found her spot curled up in my arms and decided that it was a really, really good place to be.

Daddy came later. Took him about 10 days to win her over. Now she adores him (though I'm almost always her first pick). He's actually the one who first started working with her to get her to roll over.

She's still a scrapper and is leader of our three-chihuahua pack but she's definitely not the dog she used to be.

How sweet. Doesn't that make you just feel sorta proud of yourself for giving this little one security and love? We have a stray who is slowly coming around to affection and losing a lot of his temper. So I understand the struggle it can be. Good for you.

Exactly. She's not my first rescue dog and she won't be my last. While I love being able to raise a dog from a little puppy, there are huge rewards to the rescue kids.
