Now if we can just get rid of that other Aaron character. Bag of baseballs and a slightly used third base maybe?

The Tribune era is now officially over..the Ricketts now own the Cubs. [27 Oct 2009|12:57pm]

Finally, finally, finally..I wonder what he'll say on Friday, but I hope it's along the lines of "I will not rest until I am holding the World Series Trophy, and I will do everything in my power to make the Cubs a contender each and every year. Mediocrity will not be tolerated."

Cubs hire new hitting coach: Rudy Jaramillo [21 Oct 2009|01:02pm]

I don't think just this alone is going to jump start our offense in 2010, but I don't think it hurts..the new ownership is paying top dollar for him as well, so that might signal that Ricketts is willing to spend a lot more money on coaching, scouting, and player development than the Tribune ever did..just having good scouting reports might end the "We've never seen this pitcher before, so he's going to dominate us" crap that has gone on for years.

According to the article, the bankruptcy court must give final approval to the deal (I thought they already did that?), and 'a final financial closing must take place', and it's expected to be concluded by the end of the month.

Bradley suspended for rest of the season [20 Sep 2009|05:23pm]

Bradley suspended for rest of season
By Paul Sullivan

ST. LOUIS -- For this season, it's game over for Milton Bradley.

The outspoken outfielder, who took shots at the Cubs in a Saturday interview with the Daily Herald, has been suspended for the rest of the season, according to general manager Jim Hendry.

"The last few days became too much for me to tolerate," Hendry said.

"I'm certainly not going to let our great fans become excuses," Hendry said. "I'm not going to tolerate [Bradley] not being able to answer questions from the media respectably."

This came after Bradley's encounter Thursday when reporters asked Bradley about taking himself out of the game without a pinch runner ready following a hit. The scene played out like this:

Reporters: What happened with the injury?

Bradley: "I'm not talking about that. What else you got?"

Reporters: Why did you come out?

Bradley: "I got knee inflammation. I got two knee surgeries. That happens when you got knee surgery, in case you don't know. What else you got?"

Reporters: How long will you be out?

Bradley: "What else you got? Anything significant?"

This went on and on until Bradley turned his back, ending the interview.

Bradley is not with the team as the Cubs prepare for a 7:05 p.m. game against the division-leading Cardinals.

The Cubs signed the oft-moved Bradley to a three-year, $30 million contract in the off-season but are expected to try to trade him this off-season after one disappointing campaign on the North Side.

Methinks it was the "no wonder they haven't won in 100 years" comment that did him in.

2010 Cubs Schedule Out... Just without official times [15 Sep 2009|05:08pm]

[ music | "Over My Head" - The Fray ]

LOVE this 2010 Cubs Schedule for next year.... We get the AL West next year as opponents, everyone! :) I'm sooooo excited this time around! :)

Some games or other interesting Cubs dates I'm looking at early....

April 5-11 - Season Starts on the road at Atlanta and then at the Commies.
April 12 - Opening Day vs. the Alcoholics.
May 19-20 - @ Philadelphia ... I'm glad we only have to play there twice. The Phillies play at Wrigley four times instead.... Score!
May 21-23 - @ Texas .... This is tempting. Very tempting.
May 25-27 - vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers of Echo Park ... followed by ---
May 28-30 - vs. the Morans ... Critical week there. VERY critical. Also note that there will not be a Memorial Day game this year.
June 11-13 - vs. the Sux
June 15-17 - vs. the "Heeeeey's" .... Yeah Oakland... LONG time rivalry there. I'm going to love seeing that series if I can get the chance. It's also one hell of a way to entertain my friends from the East Bay Area.
June 18-20 - vs. my mistress team in the Anaheim Angels (eff that LA Angels of Anaheim crap.). I'm going to be selling my soul for a ticket to each game in that series.
June 22-24 - @ Seattle. Kosuke v. Ichiro.... That's going to be fun! Maybe then, Ichiro can teach Kosuke more about how to be a solid lead-off hitter.
June 25-27 - @ the Sux
July 1-4 - vs. the Commies. When was the last time we hosted a game on July 3rd or 4th? The Red Line will sure as hell be nuts on the 3rd, thats for sure.
July 8-11 - @ the Los Angeles Dodgers of Echo Park.... And while I'm at it, I can go to Anaheim to enjoy the All-Star festivities the following days.... Not a bad idea!!!!!!! SCORE!!!!! :) AND I get to go back and visit the family, too! I REALLY love this idea...
September 3-5 - vs. the Mets...
September 24-26 - vs. the Morans .... What a way to end a year.
September  27-30 - @ our bane --- Petco Park, San Diego... FOUR of em. The Cubs can't beat the Fathers, and heaven forbid the field has to do something with that. Unfortunately, that's also the start of our last road trip, which is a 7-day that ends in Houston...

What are you guys looking at in the way of dates?

"We Believe" release delayed [08 Sep 2009|07:26pm]

lilac_writer
I am not happy about this, I was really looking forward to seeing it.  The preview looks awesome.

Hold the popcorn. Promoters of the theatrical documentary on the Cubs, titled "We Believe," now say the movie will not be shown until spring 2010. The movie was to be shown in Chicago on Sept. 20, and then the DVD made available but those plans have been delayed. "We Believe" was filmed during the 2008 season and features interviews with several Cubs players, manager Lou Piniella and celebrities, such as Hugh Hefner and Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins.

I just want to say that Milton Bradley is NOT the reason the Cubs suck this year. He's not even 1 of the reasons. His OBP is nearly .400, and he's been mostly healthy. His lack of power is disappointing, but it's not causing this team to crap the bed.

Blame Alfonso Soriano (mostly), Mike Fontenot, Aaron Miles, Geovany Soto, and the bullpen. You can hate Milton's attitude all you want, but he's been a positive to the team. And I really hope the Chicago fans don't run him out of town, but I fear they will.

Milton Bradley says he wants to get off the field as quickly as possible... [27 Aug 2009|01:20pm]
lilac_writer

Lou Piniella did not want to comment on Milton Bradley's statement that he prays the games only go nine innings so he can spend the least amount of time possible on the field and then go home. However, Piniella did say this year's Cubs team has not been one of the better mixes chemistry-wise that he's had.

First, any reaction to Bradley's comments?

"I can't speak for Milton," Piniella said Thursday.

A reporter said it seems as if Bradley doesn't want to be with the Cubs.

"He's getting paid to play," Piniella said. "I'm getting to paid to put out a lineup and that's exactly what I'm doing."

Maybe I will be believed now when I say he disrupts the entire team, not just by his shoddy playing but by his attitude.  He is not a good team player.  The Cubs had excellent chemistry last year, this year the biggest change is MB.  There is no place in the lineup for him, he loses balls in the sun and throws them into the stands with two outs, between fights with water coolers, can't handle afternoon games, and is hitting better from the right side than the left.  But of course the Cubs didn't sign him to hit from the right.  And they definately aren't paying him to hit 11 hr's and 35 rbi's.  Mike Fontenot can do that.

Hey guys - I have a question about the signings.  Obviously I'm not in Chicago.  I think someone said that if I wanted to get something signed, I could call the store and order something.  The question is this - is there a limit?  There are 2 other friends of mine down here who would love to get a ball signed by Ron Santo.  I'm going to call the store in the morning but I was just curious...

Signings/appearances [19 Aug 2009|05:23pm]

feigenbaum_04

I realize that with the shitastic way 90% of the team has been playing, most of us don't feel like spending any more money on the Cubs than we already have. But just in case you DO, here are some upcoming signings and appearances.

THURSDAY AUG 27th (Gurnee)
Legends of the Field Store @ GURNEE MILLS (Entrance E, hang a left when you get inside the doors) will have TWO PLAYERS appearing the same night.

Derrek Lee (who actually scores runs this year) will be from 6pm to 7:30pm. Pricey. Flats/Balls $79. Premium items (bats, etc) $99. Inscriptions an additional $25.

Angel Guzman (who I would have said is one of the few decent BP guys until he punked out last night like everyone else) will be from 6:30 to 7:30pm. MUCH CHEAPER. Flats/Balls $25. Inscriptions an additional $10. (No price listed for "premium " items, maybe it's the same.)

STORE NUMBER is 847 855 2000

If you're coming from the city, make sure you leave early as 94 is hella bad.

THURSDAY AUG 27th DIFFERENT STORE (Waukegan)
Jim n Steve's Sportscards 2909 Grand Ave, Waukegan IL. You could conceiveably hit both LotF and JS with little problem (Waukegan is east of the Mills on the same road - Grand).

Jake Fox from 7:30-8:30pm
$15 with advance purchase, $20 day of signing. If you go to the Lee or Guzman signing, bring your ticket from that event here and get a free 8x10 of Jake. CALL TONY HORNER @ 708 837 9760

I was told by the Legends of the Field guys that Jim n Steve's Shop had Geovany Soto the other week and all of NINE people showed up. These people don't get much publicity. To have only nine people show up for someone like Geovany means they ate a TON of money in paying for the athlete to show up. (At least $10K for big names.) Spread the word on Jake and get this mom and pop type shop some business.

THURSDAY AUG 27th DIFFERENT STORE (Vernon Hills)
Mike Fontenot 6-7:30pm $25, with $5 going to Kids Hope United Charity.
1175 Corporate Woods Pkwy in Vernon Hills. Don't ask me, it's gotta be somewhere in back of the Target off of Route 60 (aka Townline Road).

THURSDAY SEPT 10 (GURNEE)
Back at Legends of the Field. Randy Wells will make his second appearance at this store this season. 7-8pm. ANY ITEM ONLY $25. I'd get it now before his signing price goes higher next year.

Also, NO ONE showed up for a Randy Wells signing at the Fullerton Sports Authority this past Saturday. Seriously. Some of us went and we thought we were at the wrong store. A sales associate goes "Are you looking for that Wells guy?" and then waves us to the back of the store where poor Randy was just sitting there. Feeling rather unloved. Go make Randy feel some love. Tell him the crazy girls at the Fullerton Sports Authority sent you and that you hear his idea for a t-shirt is FANTASTIC.  I dare you. )And if you really want to lay it on thick, tell him he is *is* way better looking that Ryan Theriot.)

Photographic proof of Sad Randy feeling unloved )

SATURDAY SEPT 26 (GURNEE)
Legends of the Field again

Ron Santo 12-1:30pm. Any item $39. Inscriptions additional $25. Get it before the Cubs finally kill him with their horrendous play.

FINALLY: if you can't make it in person, but still want something, contact the shop. Usually they will get the item signed for you and ship it to you for an additional fee.

Sounds like Lou has finally figured out something that most of us have known for a while, which is that Kevin Gregg is completely terrible.

He's out as the closer.
