Good news Chicago!
My boss-man has decided to pay for me to fly up and apartment hunt! Awesome. I will be in town on Sunday, July 27 to August 2! Just enough time to get into trouble.
I am so happy he decided to pay for this. I was trying to Craig's list an apartment, but hell, I want to know if the HEATER works!
I hope I get to meet a couple of you LJ peeps while I am in town. Maybe one of you is looking for a roommate?

I'm trying to make it out to the Chicago Botanic Garden tomorrow.
However, I'm going to be taking the train.
I'm pretty new to Chicago and I wanted to ask for some directions.

I live in Lakeview, off of Diversey & Broadway.

I'm told to take the Braeside Metra in Highland Park.
What line exactly am I taking? And will this take me the entire way??

I'm doing an ongoing graphic design project with various Chicago neighborhood/popular site names.

For the North Halsted area, I've seen "Boystown", "Boys Town" and "Boys' Town" -- which one is correct?

Calling all runners

I just moved to Forest Park last week and I just started working downtown (Jackson and Wabash for any interested parties). I'm looking for people to go for a run/jog with after work. I'm planning on finding the Piper's Alley Fleet Feet and joining up with them for their Tuesday night women's runs but am also wanting to find other people to run with other days of the week.

Alternately, if there are any runners here who live near Forest Park who would be interested in meeting up for runs on the weekends, let me know. I know that the running store in Forest Park on Madison does runs on Saturday mornings but they're at 7 AM! I'm not a morning person so the idea of getting up and running at 7 AM on a Saturday is freaking me out.

I don't run super fast. My regular pace is about 10:00/mile and I try to go between 3 and 5 miles at a time.

So if you're interested or know of any other running groups I could contact, let me know!

I would like to get some copies made of an antique print. I'm told that I'm better off going to a real print shop or a professional studio, rather than carting it to Kinko's and hoping for the best. Anyone have suggestions or referrals?

Is there a reason the CTA red line isn't showing up on Google Maps lately?? Whenever I want to get somewhere (and I live not far from the red line), it has me taking busses -- even when I think that the El would be more time efficient and convenient.

Tax attorney or accountant?

I'm not sure specifically if I'm looking for a tax attorney or an accountant, but I need somebody who can preferably handle both of the following:

- I'm looking to buy a condo relatively soon, and I need somebody experienced in the Chicago real estate market who can help advise me not only on what kind of costs I'm looking at for such a purchase, but also help me estimate how it will impact my finances as they currently stand.

- Somebody who can help advise me on how to navigate taxes next year, as it would be the first time not filing an EZ, for multiple reasons.

I need somebody who has reasonable costs (I don't know what market "norm" is, so feel free to throw figures out), and if their office has Saturday hours that's a big plus, too.

As I hope to build an ongoing relationship with whomever I choose, please do not throw names or suggestions into the ring unless you've personally tried them out and are pleased with their services. I know I can open up the Yellow Pages and find an accountant that way -- but I'd rather get a personal recommendation. Thanks!

Migrating to the city

I tried to work with "The Apartment People" recently, because they had come highly recommended, but have gotten the run around from an agent with them. While calling places I found in Craigslist, I ran in to a group called "Homestead Group".

Has anybody worked with them before? Should I ask for a different agent with Apartment People? Any suggestions besides the two? I'm still going to peruse craigslist as well, and I have a little bit of time, with a Sept. 1 move-in date.

Complete shot in the dark but... anyone happen to be going to the 12:02 Dark Knight at the Webster Place theater (1471 W Webster) Thursday night/Friday morning? I'm asking because I have two 12:01 tickets I am looking to exchange for two 12:02 tix as one member of my movie viewing party mistakenly bought a 12:02 ticket not realizing the 12:01 was already sold out and we now have a split party. So I'm making a last ditch effort to swap out the two 12:01 tix with two 12:02 so we can see the movie as a party of three as nature, God, and comic book nerdiness intended.
See the movie a whole minute earlier! How can you pass up a deal like this???
Lemme know. We can do the swap at the theater so you know there's no shadiness on my part.

Any ideas as to a supermarket or specialty grocery store in the city or in the northwest suburbs that carries fresh (not dried or canned) Lychee fruit in their produce section? I already checked Mitsuwa Marketplace, and i figured somewhere in Chinatown might but i was hoping someone would know a specific place so i don't just end up wandering around grocery stores for an hour.

Any ideas on how to get a new patient appointment with a psychiatrist in less than a month? So far, all attempts have been unsuccessful. Those that are accepting new patients don't have anything available for another month. Any leads or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Lincoln Park/Lakeview would be great, but anywhere accessible by pubtrans is fine.

an odd and last minute question:

in the early morning hours tomorrow I embark on freshman orientation at UIC. Now, especially for a public university, UIC has a lengthy orientation program that I am looking to get out of [a full two day extravaganza plus overnight stay]. The last time I took a shot at college was five years ago and, being the socially averse snob that I am, I am not looking forward to a repeat performance of irritating social bonding rituals [which include a night out on the town at a local restaurant] with people nearly a decade younger than I am.

For those of you who have been through this or know people who have: is it possible to just skip the whole damn thing? As someone who's making the effort to go back to school later in the game, I'm not looking to screw everything up by ditching something I know I can stay the course of, but I am honestly dreading the entire experience and a plausible "out" would be wonderful.
