Blue Line 54/Cermak Service to be Cut
http://www.suntimes.com/news/transportation/838770,cta031208.article

Essentially, it's just the little blue line service that's getting cut. The article sort of makes it sound like the branch itself was being cut. But it's really just removing the few remaining blue line trains from the equation and shifting it totally to the Pink. Still, there a lot of people are gonna be cranky about this...

Nooo, the Blue Line runs to 54/Cermak are what keep me going in the morning! When I get one, it kinda acts like a good luck charm. Sure, I get off at Clark/Lake, but It's still a pleasant surprise. Oh well.

According to this paragraph,

"The 54th/Cermak Blue Line trains currently run every 30 minutes during rush hour, and has only six to eight people per car, Huberman said. At the end of six months and after hearing from the public, the CTA will decide whether to make the cut permanent."

...about 256 people in the morning and 256 people at night will be cranky.

This was a necessary loss.... It wasn't bringing in passengers, plus, people take the Pink Line instead anyways to the Loop. It makes sense, but I loved this part of it. Oh well. I can do without the service, because I can just get off Clark and transfer anyway. Thats fine.

But on the bright side of things, they could still use the line as a utility track in case they need extra cars.

I'd say at least half of the 256 either time are the same people so it's a bit less.

Yeah, but keep in mind how many people protested the move and made a big stink in the first place when it's clear that few of them were negatively impacted anyway. I dunno. I could see a bunch of complaints.

When they announced the Pink Line I knew it was only a matter of time before they ended all Douglas-O'Hare service. Now that time is here.

Anyone planning on being on that last train?

You know, that might be a fun ride.

It just hit me--fantrips are going to have to use the then non-revenue connector track to get from Douglas Line to Congress Line for novelty.

Yep. And its not like CTA can remove it. The ramp is still required to connect the Blue to the rest of the system. (Let's just hope they keep both tracks like they did at 13th.) Its kind of funny, really. Used to be that fantrips used the connector, now it'll be the other way around.

Technically it won't be necessary once the tracks under Block 37 are completed. It'd be cool with me if they never did an airport express but ended up using the tracks for some creative routing.

Sounds like a good idea to me.
