Coop Transit Authority

Screw this migration shit, I'm going to Midway.

I was traveling to the Caribbean Festival of Life on the 7/4 on the Green Line. At the Clark and Lake stop this pigeon flew into the car. Usually the birds instinctively fly over the train when startled on the platform, but this one, not so bright.

At first it freaked out and most people fled to the other end of the car while it fluttered in a panic. Then it calmed down or got tired and just sat on seats for a while. Every time the train stopped it would flip out and bash into the windows near the door but not the door, and when people waved it the right way it flew the wrong one. After about six stops, I noticed the angle of its leaps and when it took off, swatted it with a newspaper in the correct direction. It got off the train at 47th. That downtown pigeon was gonna have a hell of time getting home.

Yes, from a photo of a figurine because there was no clear film still I could find online. Usually I use it when I'm being grumpy and disapproving, but it's my fave animal icon.

This happened to me once on the Purple Line... we were sitting at Howard and a pigeon wandered into the car on foot and stayed with us until Diversey. Strange thing was, it didn't look that panicked and just walked onto the platform when it found the door.

Well, that's a Howard Stop pigeon. This was one of those high strung loop pigeons.

That's how Howard pigeons roll. No flying, because that hawk recording might get them.

That's great. Even the pigeons know to stay away from the hobo corner where most of the Outdoor Urban Dwellers/Homeless/Displaced Homeowners sleep.

Hey, it could have been from the 47th area, y'know, they are homing birds after all... ;)

heh, happens quite a bit on the london underground actually. in fact, i swear sometimes they're just lazy and can't be bothered flying and deliberately get on the train to get about. should get a ticket though, evil fare dodgers!
