| This is your regularly scheduled games night announcement. This week we will have games night in anticipation of gencon. I don't have creative flavor text in me right at the moment. What should we play? Domain? Battlestar? Pillars of the Earth? What do you feel like playing?
Suggest a game. Bring a friend. Bring a tasty dessert, or a spicy snack. Bring a good bottle and we can raise a glass to world peace, or whatever or whoever you raise your glass to.
We now have chez turtle on facebook, join the group!
If you haven't been to our house before, drop me an e-mail, voltbang@livejournal.com . We will have plenty of friendly geeks to make you feel welcome. See the community description for a few words about who we are and what games night is. If you aren't new, bring a friend, NEW PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS WELCOME! Please take a moment to introduce yourself if you are new, or introduce your guest if you bring a new person. We like new people, but it's a little wierd when someone shows up, plays a game and leaves with no one knowing who they were. You also don't have to know how to play any of these games, we can and will teach you. PLEASE email for Chelona's wonderful "My Maps" that she created on Google Maps, which will get you to our door. On-line maps will confuse and frustrate you, as they are not up to date with some road changes in our neighborhood. Also, her map will help you with parking.

Sorry for the last minute notice! This week just got away from us! :)
Same Bat Day (Tomorrow - Friday June 19th!), Same Bat Time (Show up any time after 7ish, games _try_ to start around 8)! This is your regularly scheduled games night announcement! What do you want to play this week? Can I maintain my streak of being fascinated with Dominion? Should we have a "show up early for pizza" week? Suggest a game. Bring a friend. Bring a tasty dessert, or a spicy snack. Bring a good bottle and we can raise a glass to world peace, or whatever or whoever you raise your glass to. We now have chez turtle on facebook, join the group! http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=81029367454If you haven't been to our house before, drop me an e-mail, voltbang@livejournal.com . We will have plenty of friendly geeks to make you feel welcome. See the community description for a few words about who we are and what games night is. On-line maps will confuse and frustrate you, as they are not up to date with some road changes in our neighborhood. Also, her map will help you with parking. What Is Games Night: Games night is for playing games. Board and card games mostly. If you aren't much into games, we usually have one table playing light social games where you can learn the game and fit right in. If you are a hard core games geek we have another table for you. Not knowing anyone present is fine, the whole point is to meet new people. We are friendly goofy game nerds. We can get along with people a lot older or younger than us, we don't bite[1], if you are shy, we can be pretty accommodating. When: Friday night, this week. Games start between 7:30 and 8pm, probably closer to 8pm. If you arrive late, that's fine, but don't be disappointed if everyone present is already wrapped up in a game and you don't participate in that aspect of the night. You can always hang out and be social, or play video games. If you arrive early, bring your dinner and eat with us. Where: Our townhouse in Ashburn VA. We're in bellmont country club , if you want to find it on a map. E-mail chelona@livejournal.com or voltbang@livejournal.com and let one of us know you need directions. Ask early, better to have the directions and change your mind about coming than be stuck waiting for me to reply to your e-mail too late. No really, what do you play? I need to update this list! Betrayal at House on the Hill Pirate's Cove Ticket to Ride Entdecker Gloom Tikal Killer Bunnies Settlers of Cataan Guillotine Tigris & Euphrates Apples to Apples Carcassonne Munchkin Star Munchkin El Grande Icehouse Bang Castle Democrazy Chez Geek Ivanhoe Fluxx and an assload more. [1]: Unless asked. :) What are "fluffy" and "crunchy" games? Fluffy: social, somewhat light hearted, fun, less math, less strategy, cooperative. GREAT for new people or people who don't normally consider themselves "gamers". IE "fluffy bunny" games, like "fluffy bunny pagans" or something. Good examples: Apples to Apples, Uno, Guillotine. Crunchy: strategic, serious, more math, competitive. For people who are into gaming and want more "kill your neighbor" kinda games. IE "something to crunch your teeth into", meaning substantial. Good examples: Settlers of Catan, Tikal, Risk. Current Mood: sleepy | | Wednesday, June 10th, 2009 | 8:36 pm [voltbang]

Poker Reminder/Poll http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=logo#/event.php?eid=94721154687Start Time: Saturday, June 13, 2009 at 5:00pm End Time: Sunday, June 14, 2009 at 12:00am Location: Chez Turtle Description: Poker night. We play tournament style texas hold'em at chez turtle. Everyone pays the same buy-in, last person with chips takes the money (if we have enough people we pay second and third place). Buy in is usually $10 or $20. The house collects no money and we can not accept cash donations for food or drink. You can bring your own beverage, of course. We may host a learning game before the money game and teach people to play. If there are 5 or more people for a learning game, there will be a free seat awarded to the money game. If we don't have people wanting to learn we will just play an abbreviated early tournament for a $10 buy in. The early game starts at 5:30 and concludes at 8:30. We will have a BRIEF meal break between games, and some meal time before the first game as well. If you want to show up for only the second game, let me know, that's certainly a good approach too. There will be a real-money tournament starting at 9pm. Buy in will be $20 and we will play until all the chips belong to one player. Pay-out will be determined when we start the tournament based on how many people participate. We may have re-buys for the first hour, depending on popular opinion. Poll #1414119

Off topic--- Sammy goodbye thingie
I was asked to post the details of this here: Sammy's Goodbye Send Off Sunday June 7 5pm-8pm or later At the Auld Shebeen at 3971 ChainBridge Road in Fairfax City, VA. OK folks, this is my last free day (although I should be packing) before I leave for Wisconsin for the summer and then Reno. So come and have a pint in the pub. Grab a bite to eat. I will try to get a table or two in the bar area. You do not have to come for the whole thing, but it would be great to see you before I leave! --Sam for more info about the place: www.theauldshebeenva.com I will miss coming to games night and other fun things at Chez Turtle... and you know when I come back into town for a visit I will just show up! *HUGS* | | Monday, May 25th, 2009 | 10:26 pm [rigelkitty]

Harper's Ferry Whitewater River Tubing - 6/13 We invite any interested parties to join us for Whitewater River Tubing at Harper's Ferry via BTI Whitewater on June 13th ( http://www.btiwhitewater.com/tubing/) . Bring water shoes or shoes suitable for getting wrecked in the river (nothing that can fall off), sunblock, and a towel. Must be able to swim. Either meet at our place in Leesburg, VA by 10am or at BTI by 11am. We can lend two single tubes and one double tube that lower the cost to $15/person (or bring your own that can survive whitewater), first-come, first-serve. Otherwise, good tube rental is $30 and crappy tube rental is $25. Prices are good for ride-all-day. NOTE: Amazon is selling the "luxury" tubes we use for $20 ( http://tinyurl.com/otwqd8). Buy it, use it once, throw it away - it's still cheaper than renting. If interested, please rsvp (no maybe's) to email in userinfo. | | Saturday, May 23rd, 2009 | 11:54 pm [mangiati_vivi] |
'Allo
Heyo. Name's Jay, I was one of the two noobs who showed up a bit late to the games night last night (5/22). We didn't get a chance to meet all of you personally, but we both had a great time. Will definitely be coming back as soon as we can for more Gloom, Blokus, and maybe even some Cash & Guns. :) | | Tuesday, May 19th, 2009 | 6:51 pm [tango]

[OT] Moving!
Hi folks! I won't be at games night this week because I'll either be doing last minute packing or moving some stuff down to my new place. Saturday morning at 10am by boyfriend, iberian_wolf, will be picking up a truck and bringing it back here (Gaithersburg, MD) to load. Once it's loaded, we'll be headed down to our new place in Springfield, VA, a couple intersections north of Springfield Plaza on Backlick Rd. Somewhere in this process I'll be providing pizza and drinks for anyone helping us move. If you're available, or want to be able to call if you get bored, comment here and I'll PM you my cell number. | | Saturday, May 16th, 2009 | 6:18 pm [voltbang]

Games night, friday May 22

|
|
|
| This looks like a good week for games night, we have people coming from north and south to join us, and the futon and air mattress are already reserved for sleepovers. If you haven't visited games night in a while, this is your night. (yes, I am posting the announcement early)
I was thinking about trying to get in some quicker to play games, but I need suggestions for what plays quickly. Help me out here. Icehouse takes 20 minutes, we can get in a game or two of that. Blokus is pretty quick. There have been several little card games that I am totally drawing a blank on.
On the "not so slow" table, the cylons have been plotting quietly for some time, I think they are about to cause trouble. Cataan, 4, 6 or mega player version is always good. Dominion is a middle length sort of game, and I like it.
Should we have a "show up early for pizza" week?
Suggest a game. Bring a friend. Bring a tasty dessert, or a spicy snack. Bring a good bottle and we can raise a glass to world peace, or whatever or whoever you raise your glass to.

| It's time for the fifteenth games night of 2009 (when do I stop counting them?). Yes, the announcement is being posted late. Come. Play. Bring a friend. We will be holding games night as usual, friday night, come on over 7:30ish.
What game do you feel like playing this week? Right now I don't have a game in mind. Mega-settlers is still an option. Combine two settlers sets and make a giant irregularly shaped island and see what 6 or more player can do. Is anyone reading this far into the text of the invite?
We now have chez turtle on facebook, look here, http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=74570632976
Don't forget, poker this weekend. Go back and look at the announcement again, here or facebook. The first game will be for learning and won't be for money, new players wanted!

Need Card Boxes?
Specifically, those sized to hold a game about the size of Fluxx or Chrononauts? Or your favorite M:tG or WoWTCG deck? The folks over at dcgamesnight are trying to get an order together for a least 100 boxes, which will get them another 50 or so boxes from the retailer for free, to be shared amongst those who ordered. Boxes range for $4 for basic to $8 for printed with nice art. They're organizing over here: http://community.livejournal.com/dcgamenight/95755.htmlAnd that entry contains a link to the retailer. | | Wednesday, April 15th, 2009 | 9:00 am [voltbang]

| It's time for the fourteenth games night of 2009 (when do I stop counting them?). Last week I played two new games, but I can't remember their names. This week we should play something depressing in honor of tax day. Come. Play. Bring a friend. We will be holding games night as usual, friday night, come on over 7:30ish.

Poker Night
This event is also posted on facebook. I cut and pasted the text from there to here. You can RSVP either here, there, or better yet, both. Event: Poker Night! Start Time: Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 5:00pm End Time: Sunday, April 19, 2009 at 2:00am Location: chez turtle Description:Poker night. We will host a learning game before the money game and teach people to play. If there are 5 or more people for a learning game, there will be a free seat awarded to the money game awarded to the player with highest chip count at the end of the game. Learning game starts at 5:30 and concludes at 8:30. We will be teaching as we go, which may mean stopping a hand in progress to explain game play and may include revealing cards which would not be revealed in normal play in order to explain what has happened. Some hands may declared invalid as part of the learning process. The point of the game is to teach game play, not to win. Reference materials such as a chart of hand rankings will be available. There will be a real-money tournament starting at 9pm. Buy in will be $20 and we will play until all the chips belong to one player. Pay-out will be determined when we start the tournament based on how many people participate. We may have re-buys for the first hour, depending on popular opinion. Poll #1381252
