Games Night/First Hockey Game Friday is our regularly scheduled games night night, but games night this week happens to fall on the first night of the hockey season. That's right, hockey's back. Chelona and I will be watching the Thrashers and the Capitals play on television, and you are welcome to join us. Even if you don't follow hockey, we can provide some explaination before and between play.
So, what about games night? I'm not entirely sure. I don't want to cancel games night, but neither of us will be able to actively host. I would just move games night to saturday, but I think we have something else going on saturday. Wait, this is a three day weekend, should we have a super rare sunday night games night? Or would it work better to say "There's the basement, you know where the games are, and I am designating this person here as stand-in basement host" on friday night? Share your thoughts with me, please. | | Thursday, October 2nd, 2008 | 11:13 am [chelona]

The games people play

| Friday night, lets all get together and play some games! More new friends is good, so bring a friend again this week. I am thinking about Toledo, or Pillars Of The Earth for this week, but it's wednesday and I could completely change my mind by then. What do you want to play, I'm open to suggestions. I'd like to get into the habit of playing quick games first, starting a little earlier, and then starting the longer games at 8:30 or 9, but that would mean changing our habits. Any thoughts there?
If you haven't been to our house before, drop me an e-mail, voltbang@livejournal.com . We will have plenty of friendly geeks to make you feel welcome. See the community description for a few words about who we are and what games night is. If you aren't new, bring a friend, NEW PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS WELCOME! You also don't have to know how to play any of these games, we can and will teach you. PLEASE email for Chelona's wonderful "My Maps" that she created on Google Maps, which will get you to our door. On-line maps will confuse and frustrate you, as they are not up to date with some road changes in our neighborhood. Also, her map will help you with parking.

Games Night Update

| Friday night, lets all get together and play some games! What are people interested in playing this week? Do we still have new untried games to test out? I know some people have yet to try Toledo, I haven't played tomb or battlestar galactica, but we may be seeing some new game burn out. So, what I am saying, in essence, without going into too much detail is, we can play whatever y'all feel like playing. I think it would be a good week for new faces, so bring a friend. If you haven't been to our house before, drop me an e-mail, voltbang@livejournal.com . We will have plenty of friendly geeks to make you feel welcome. | It's not a birthday party, it's games night. Last week we played Tomb, Muahahaha, My Dwarves Fly, Balloon cup and Toledo. I suspect this week we may see how BattleStar Galactica works. Friday night, starting at 7pm-ish, as usual. If you haven't been to our house before, drop me an e-mail, voltbang@livejournal.com . We will have plenty of friendly geeks to make you feel welcome. TtR: Nordic I don't know if anyone picked up Ticket to Ride: Nordic Countries at GenCon, but it's about to hit stores (it already has at FunAgain). It's already sold out at Days Of Wonder and will not be reprinted (so they say). I'm not ready to make a full games order for myself, but I'd like to get my hands on TtR: Nordic. Plenty of us are fans of the series, too, so some of you might want one as well before they're gone.
If we get four people who want it, that's $40 each. Three people would make it $42.66 each. Two people: $44 each. I'd rather not pay full s&h for just me if I can help it.
Is anyone interested in getting in on a bulk order of TtR: Nordic from Thoughthammer?
Update: Well, f*@&. Thoughthammer sold out. Ok, Boardgame Revolution has them for $35+s&h. I'll check with folks at game night, then place an order that evening before anyplace else sells out.

| After four+ days in indianapolis playing games, I just gotta play more games! I hope some of you can help. I have Muahaha and "My Dwarves Fly" and I forget what else ready to play, and Toledo will find it's way home soon. Ohiogeek and Paleboat have Tomb and other stuff for you to try out. It's the post-gencon loot festival! Friday night, starting at 7pm-ish, as usual. If you haven't been to our house before, drop me an e-mail, voltbang@livejournal.com . NO GAMES NIGHT THIS WEEK Games night this week will be held in indianapolis at gencon. If you come to chez_turtle, my mother will be mighty confused.
Games night will return to it's regular time and place next week, august 22. If you haven't come to games night in a while that will be an excellent opportunity. Expect some new games, fresh from gencon, but right at this moment, I can't tell you what they will be. | | Thursday, August 7th, 2008 | 10:47 am [voltbang]

Games Night

| This friday night is the pre-gencon games night. Y'all come out and give those of us going to indianapolis a big send off. Gencon is the biggest gaming convention in the US, "the best four days in gaming". Two weeks from now I will be pushing for people to join us next year! But for now, we need to get fired up for the trip, so come out to our place to play.
We had a good game of icehouse last week, I'm hoping we can get in another icehouse, and it's been a while since settlers came out. If you haven't been to our house before, drop me an e-mail, voltbang@livejournal.com . We will have plenty of friendly geeks to make you feel welcome. Games night, friday august 1.

| Hey, lets all get together and play games on friday night! We can call it games night. It'll be fun. I have no idea what we should play this week, so I am taking suggestions. Maybe we could do some of the quick games like blokus and pitchcar and tumblin dice (hint hint) for a while before we split up and play the longer games. Maybe even break out icehouse. Another experiment with an alternate games night format. I'm kind of thinking about another game of mega-settlers (which is just settlers on a bigger island with more land to avoid crowding).
Just two games nights until gencon! If you haven't been to our house before, drop me an e-mail, voltbang@livejournal.com . We will have plenty of friendly geeks to make you feel welcome. Saturday Night Special Edition

| Friday is the 4th of july. So take the night off of games, and go celebrate the invention of fireworks and the birth of a nation. And then, saturday, come on over for games night. Should we order a pizza, would you prefer to bring your own dinner, and eat with us? Give me some ideas here. Doors open at 6pm, and we'll start the games as soon as we get enough interested people. This will be a laid back saturday night games night. If you are going to be consuming adult beverages and expect to need the futon for crash space, let me know in advance.
If you haven't been to our house before, drop me an e-mail, voltbang@gmail My LJ paid membership has temporarily lapsed, so I don't thinkyou can send me e-mail here. | I didn't forget about you, here is your regularly scheduled, still spectacular, games night invite! That's right, board games at chez turtle in ashburn! Everyone has been busy and attendance has been down lately. Come back, we still don't bite. Honest. Or come for the first time, we would love to meet you.
Last week was fairly quiet. Therefore, this week should be noisy. The new expansion for Pillars of the Earth has yet to be played, although the addition to pitchcar seems to work nicely. Anyone skilled with woodworking tools want to take a shot at making pitchcar tiles? If we have enough people for more thanone game, I'd bet we might have a settlers game, it feels like a settlers week. We still haven't gotten around to rocking out on guitar hero. What else do people want to play?

Last week I played Pillars of the Earth, and then did we play something else? I forget. Then on saturday we played Arkham.
This week Rigel will probably be bringing something he got from thoughthammer, and we will have to try out pitchcar with a new track, and maybe pillars with it's expansion or I dunno, you suggest something.
