| Seriously, this economical crisis is so debiliating to your thought process that you can't think of anything else or put your staff in your place? You've been through this before McCain, remember the Keating 5 scandal? The Great Depression? Oh wait you aren't that old, just old enough to keep bringing up Pearl Harbor. I hear Sarah Palin can see a harbor from her house...
And now they want to reschedule the debate? TALK ABOUT ECONOMICS! IT WOULD DO THE WORLD BETTER! GUESS WHEN THEY WANT TO RESCHEDULE THE DEBATE TO? THE DAY OF THE VP DEBATE. Oh Snap does that mean they want to put off the VP debate? WHY YES THEY DO! *facepalm* Someone ain't ready for primetime.
Obama's response? "I believe we should continue to have the debate," he just said. "I believe it makes sense for us to present ourselves to the American people."
"Obviously if it turns out that we need to be in Washington, we've both got big planes, we've painted our slogan on the side of them," Obama also said. "They can get us from Washington to Mississippi pretty quickly."
Obama didn't let McCain set the tone by agreeing to suspend the campaign. SMART. This makes McCain look incapable of doing two tough things at once. Congressional leaders say the deal on the bailout is almost done and injecting a presidential candidate posing for photo-ops ain't going to get it moving any faster. And it's great to see McCain finally want to vote in the senate. He hasn't had but one vote there since April 8th. Obama looks like the guy who can handle multiple crisis's should the time occur, not someone who can't handle passing a bill and holding a debate at the same time. Also, get campaign staff who can send to the right mailing lists. SENDING YOUR TALKING POINTS TO ALL THE MEDIA GETS YOU FIRED!
Also, while taping his show, David Letterman got word that McCain had canceled his appearance to deal with the crisis. Then the feed of him getting interviewed by Katie Couric came on live. AND DAMN DID LETTERMAN LIGHT INTO HIM. And wanna know who is replacing him on the show? KEITH OLBERMANN. PREPARE FOR RHETORICAL RAPAGE!
SO DOES LITTLE JOHNNY WANT A TIME OUT?

| I am seriously SO SICK of the media pandering.
McCain suspends campaign, calls for Obama to do same
NEW YORK (CNN) -- Republican presidential candidate John McCain announced Wednesday that he is suspending his campaign to return to Washington and focus on the "historic" crisis facing the U.S. economy.
McCain said it was time for both parties to come together to solve economic crisis.
The Arizona senator called on his Democratic rival, Barack Obama, to do the same.
The Obama campaign announced that Obama would make a statement shortly.
McCain also urged that organizers of Friday's presidential debate at the University of Mississippi to postpone the event.
"I am calling on the president to convene a meeting with the leadership from both houses of Congress, including Senator Obama and myself," McCain told reporters in New York. "It is time for both parties to come together to solve this problem." Watch McCain's announcement »
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid issued a statement saying the presidential debate should go on and that McCain's negotions should not be a "photo op."
"It would not be helpful at this time to have them come back during these negotiations and risk injecting presidential politics into this process or distract important talks about the future of our nation's economy," the statement said. "We need leadership, not a campaign photo op."
"If there were ever a time for both candidates to hold a debate before the American people about this serious challenge, it is now," he added.
McCain senior adviser Mark Salter briefed reporters shortly after. He said the campaign will suspend airing all ads and all campaign events pending Obama's agreement.
Salter also set McCain called President Bush and talked to colleagues in Washington and learned that passage of the Paulson plan was next to impossible to be passed.
McCain would partake in debate if they passed agreement by Friday morning, Salter added.
McCain's campaign also said that he had canceled his scheduled appearance on "The Late Show with David Letterman" for Wednesday night.
The announcement came just hours before President Bush was scheduled to address the nation on the troubled state of the U.S. financial system -- a problem for which his administration has proposed a $700 billion bailout.
Immediately after the announcement, White House press secretary Dana Perino released this statement: "We welcome Sen. McCain's announcement. We are making progress in negotiations on the financial markets rescue legislation, but we have not finished it yet. Bipartisan support from Sens. McCain and Obama would be helpful in driving to a conclusion."
A McCain senior adviser said that Obama called McCain early Wednesday morning to asking a joint statement of "shared principles and conditions" for the bailout proposal.
An Obama campaign source confirmed the call and said that McCain returned his call six hours later, and accepted the concept and suggested the two of them return to Washington to join the negotiations. The source says that Obama told him that he would do that only if negotiators saw it as useful.
According to the Obama source, soon after they ended the call, McCain announced he was suspending his campaign and returning to Washington.
The bailout plan has met with a cool reception in two days of hearings on Capitol Hill, where both Democrats and Republicans have expressed skepticism about the proposal drafted by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson.
"It has become clear that no consensus has developed to support the administration's proposal," McCain said. "I do not believe that the plan on the table will pass as it currently stands, and we are running out of time."
But he added that he believes Congress could forge a consensus on legislation "before the markets open on Monday."
McCain and his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, were in New York to meet with world leaders at the United Nations. They had met with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko.
"Senator, governor, I'm really honored to be here with you. I know you have a very important campaign to run," Saakashvili said. "Overall, I have to say I greatly appreciate the solidarity we felt from the American people."
Earlier, Palin met with Iraqi President Jalal Talabani.
Obama on Wednesday lashed out at the Bush administration and his opponent on the handling of the crisis on Wall Street as well as the $700 billion bailout plan by Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson.
Congress and the White House are trying to negotiate the details of what would be the most sweeping economic intervention by the government since the Great Depression. Bush has asked Congress to act quickly on the bailout proposal following news of failing financial institutions and frozen credit markets.
"The clock is ticking on this crisis. We have to act swiftly, but we also have to get it right," Obama said in Dunedin, Florida. "And that means everyone -- Republicans and Democrats, and the White House and Congress -- must work together to come up with a solution that protects American taxpayers and our economy without rewarding those whose greed helped get us into this problem in the first place."
Obama said it's unacceptable to expect the American people to "hand this administration or any administration a $700 billion check with no conditions and no oversight when a lack of oversight in Washington and on Wall Street is exactly what got us into this mess."
He said struggling homeowners must be taken care of in any economic recovery plan -- and that taxpayers should "not be spending one dime to reward the same Wall Street CEOs whose greed and irresponsibility got us into this mess." Read more on both candidates' recovery plans
He also hit McCain for switching from his stance as an advocate for market deregulation to a strong supporter of regulation since the Wall Street crisis became front-page news.
"He's suddenly a hard-charging populist," Obama said. "And that's all well and good, but I sure wish he was talking the same way over a year ago, when I introduced a bill that would've helped stop the multimillion-dollar bonus packages that CEOs grab on their way out the door."
McCain's bombshell comes as a new CNN "poll of polls" out of Virginia on Wednesday shows McCain with the slimmest of leads in a state that traditionally has been a safe bet for Republicans.
The latest polls could be a warning sign for McCain that he still has work to do to lock down certain states where previous GOP nominees had to spend little time or effort doing so. Watch more on where the candidates stand in the latest polls »
In the new poll of polls, McCain holds a 1 percentage point lead over Obama (47 percent to 46 percent) in Virginia, while 7 percent remain undecided.
The poll of polls is an average of three recent surveys of the state -- MSNBC/Mason-Dixon (September 17-22), ARG (September 17-20) and ABC/The Washington Post (September 18-21). The poll of polls does not have a sampling error. Are you effing kidding me, McCain? What exactly are YOU going to do PERSONALLY to help the ECONOMY RIGHT NOW? Oh THAT'S RIGHT. You're going to go back to Washington, and say "YAY U.S.A.! YAY ME!! TAKE MY PICTURE THAT SHOWS ME DOING SOMETHING!! LOOK! I'M DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THIS RIGHT NOW!!"
I am seriously just angry. And I pray to god Obama gives him the finger. This is the most disgusting publicity stunt I think I've ever seen in a presidential election. I mean, how long ago was it, exactly, when McCain was totally AGAINST market regulation? Oh yeah. Like, not even 8 months ago. NOW YOU'RE ALL FOR IT? Cause the nation's going to hell in a handbag. Good choice there, buddy. Good conscience.
Now I'm pissed, because this throws Obama against a wall. I mean, if he says no, I'm continuing on, a) he has an opponent that's invisible for...who knows how long and b) he looks like he DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THE ECONOMY. Fuck that.
The only thing that's changed about this crisis in the past 48 hours is the poll numbers. Seriously. WTF. I hate politicians. | comments: 15 comments or Leave a comment |
| This song is hot. I'm actually pretty super excited about the new Kings of Leon album out today. I saw them on SNL on Saturday, and I was seirously impressed. It seems like he has a voice that would only come across right on album...but wow. Seriously hot. I'm also in love with Use Somebody. Wow. So good.
Anyway, yo.
Why am I totally obsessed with this China? I don't know why, but for some reason, it popped up on my Amazon recommendations list awhile ago, and I've wanted it ever since:

I don't even HAVE a reason to want China. I really don't. But like, I wish these were at Target or something, so I could gobble them up. Because I'm in love with them.
Things have been sorta crazy lately. Sorta spinning around my head, really fast. Last weekend was a blur. We spent a good portion of the day Satuday at Lysa and Adolfo's in Long Beach visiting with Chris, Lauryn, and Amanda. Amanda is getting SO BIG. But it was so nice to catch up with them. We're going to see Batman in IMAX again on Thurday with Chris, and then it looks like Friday night, we may all be heading to Disneyland together, which will be awesome. I'ts been a long time since I've been to Disneyland WITH kids.
We told Jerry about us moving out last week...and I guess he took it alright. I mean, as good as someone CAN take it when they're told they're going to be losing out on quite a bit of money every month. He said they'll probably put the house back up for sale...Eventually. I guess we'll see.
But since then, I've sort of moved into moving-mode. I threw away 6 bags of stuff--clothes, junk, I don't even know where it accumulated from. But it's out of my closet. I cleaned out a shit-ton of paper from my desk...and I can actually FIT stuff in the drawers now. Amazing, I know. I still have a lot to do, but I feel MUCH better about stuff.
So it's official--November 1, we'll be moving back in with Mom and Dad. Between us, we have a lot to get done...and I'm not really sure how we're going to do it, but we'll see. Jeff brought up that maybe Aunt D. and Jerry will want us to leave some of the furniture in the house so it would at least look decent if they show it when it's up for sale. Plus...we wouldn't have to store it. I really don't know. I feel weird asking them about it...since...well, we're moving out. They shouldn't have to store our furniture. But it sorta helps them out...so I dunno. I'm kinda torn on whether to even ask, or if I should just get a storage unit.
BTW--anyone have a storage unit place that's cheap and in the area that they like? I'm curious what this is going to cost.
So besides all that, the wedding is now almost 200 days away. I don't know why now, but I think I'm just STARTING to have anxiety about it. I think it all started a couple weeks ago when we were at the Crate and Barrel registry event thing. I mean, normally, a registry is something that's supposed to be awesome, right? Register to get STUFF! FUN! But like, we're pretty torn on what to do. All signs point to the fact that we're going to be moving far up north at the end of next year. And we're not going to have a place of our own until then. And we have no idea what sort of space we're going to have when we get there. Will we be able or even WANT to buy a house up there? Will we be squished into a small apartment? I mean, I guess some of it is up to us, but not completely. So like....I just don't even know. We have SO MUCH STUFF. We inherited a bunch of stuff from Jeff's Mom when THEY moved out of their house...so we have things like nice vases, etc. Granted, we could use upgrades on a lot of stuff like kitchen supplies, bedding, etc. But then there's the part where we have to MOVE it up there eventually. Gift cards would be ideal...and I know what we could do is just return things people bought us and just get gift cards for later use, when we get there...but that just feels wrong to me, in a way.
Then there's the other option of a honeymoon registry. I'd honestly like to lean this way, but since Jeff and I can't even decide WHERE we're going on a honeymoon, it's tough. We agree that we need to keep it on the cheap, but I just want to do SOMETHING special. Aunt D. had brought up letting us use their timeshare in Playa del Carmen at the Grand Mayan a few months ago...but hasn't brought it up since then. I would LOVE to go there. I've heard nothing but good about it...plus, I've never been to Mexico. That would kickass. But like...I don't want to ASK her about it again. And...well, Ali and Andy are getting married next year too and would probably ALSO like a free honeymoon...I'd feel guilty if they give it to me and not them...But we kinda need a straight answer. But right now...well, we're moving out of their HOUSE. And stopping paying them rent. I don't know how much they want to let us use it anymore...LOL.
So I guess bottom line is I don't want to rely on it. But it's something we need to get to planning soon.
The next couple months are gonna be pretty packed with things to do. We need to order bridesmaid dresses probably by the end of October. We need to find a florist. For cheap. We need to figure out what we're doing for a honeymoon. Maybe figure out if and when I'm having a shower? Registries kinda need to be finished. Little things that just start piling up. And throw in moving back in to Mom and Dad's...and the holidays...and well, that's a lot of ish going on. Seriously. | comments: 14 comments or Leave a comment |
