	You're probably not the guy authorized to say anything, but can we please get a policy statement from someone on why this filter was in place in the first place? It made LJ look homophobic, insensitive to the mentally ill, contemptuous of its users and a host of other bad stuff. Thanks. (Reply to this) (Thread)

I realize that you're not authorized to say anything, but somebody who IS should say something, and soon. In my opinion you're still going to lose people over this if you don't act quickly. As it is, I am on the verge of leaving LJ behind forever based on my perception that the filter was possibly put in place to disciminate against those with mental illnesses and those of non-mainstream sexual orientations.

I feel bad for you, having to be the one sticking your head over the parapet like this. Glad to see so many positive comments to this post.

Now if the LJ/SUP senior staff would just like to come out of their ivory towers for a moment and actually engage with their users to explain what the heck happened and apologise, this would be a perfect example of good communications and good customer relations. Fingers crossed...

Well you've just stopped me from completely leaving LJ and reporting them to multiple organizations supportings gays, bisexuals and the mentally ill.

This was despicable and no 'oops' is going to cover it, so ensure that the statement-making folk are very aware that LJ is not Beijing and we will not tolerate discrimination, censorship and being ignored. An uproar began 4 days ago and there is still no response to the last news posting. That is not acceptable.

You, however, are full of win for fixing this. Ceiling Cat thanks you.

But… this isn't that filter, is it? The controversial one is the interest_search_ignore hook on line 387 of interests.bml.

On the other hand, the definition of that hook is in ljcomint so it could have been removed as well and we wouldn't know it until the next code push unless a friendly developer lets us in on the secret. :-)
