This question is for people living on/in the vicinity of campus. How important is proximity to campus when you're looking for an apartment? If you live further away from campus, how is it? Do buses come regularly? Do they come late at night and on the weekends?

I have a pretty hellish commute to my job now, so living three miles away with a 20-minute bus ride sounds like paradise. But I wonder if I'm going to think that when I'm actually on campus and (very likely) running late to class. Or during winter. Three miles of snow is a lot of snow.

Any thoughts?

Also, randomly, is there a store in town that sells loose spices? For those times when you only need one bay leaf.

Nothing was said, and a man walked in who turned out to be the head of the company I lease from. He had no reason to enter. What are my rights?!?!?! I am VERY upset and do not feel comfortable living somewhere where I can not even shower without worrying about a man entering my apartment. Sorry if this is scattered as I am a little shaken up.. but I would like any information regarding my rights if anyone can help. Thanks so much.

Nekromancy feat. Unter Null + C/A/T at Chester Street (Monday, July 14)

I'm proud to announce that Champaign-Urbana is an official stop on the Unter Null and C/A/T national 2008 tour!

Alone these two industrial acts pack some serious punch. But having joined forces for their live show, we can expect an evening of all-out electronic warfare — combining the more club-friendly aggrotech sensibilities of Unter Null (Alfa Matrix Records) with the harsher powernoise aesthetics of C/A/T (Crunch Pod Records). It's no surprise that both artists have a very devout and yet rapidly-growing fanbase.

    http://www.myspace.com/unternull
    http://www.myspace.com/cat

Of course the madness doesn't stop there! Be sure to stick around for free admission to LIX-alicious, our official fetish-themed afterparty, with Jill Van Voorst as the ever-so-elegant Mistress of Ceremonies! Look forward to plenty of dancing, drinking, and other debauchery.

    Nekromancy: The Armageddon Project
    Monday, July 14, 2008

Featuring Unter Null and C/A/T with DJ Halon and DJ DeadGuy

    Chester Street Bar
    63-65 E Chester St
    Champaign, Illinois
    (217) 356-5607

    Doors open at 8:00pm
    Show starts at 9:00pm

    Ages 19 and older
    Cover charge $10.00
    (includes free pass to afterparty)

For directions to the venue, please refer to MapQuest:

Valid photo identification is required at all times. No outside food or beverages are permitted (without prior arrangements). Smoking is permitted within designated areas only.

Please join us for this exciting season premiere of Nekromancy at Chester Street. Thanks again for your support!

desk for sale $10 - want it?

I'm moving and don't really want my desk anymore, so I'm getting rid of it. Anyone here interested in it? I bought it rather cheap 5 years ago from someone, and I'd rather it go to a loyal livejournal reader.

It's a light-weight desk, light wood. Not very deep at 47x29x20 (inches), but that just makes it perfect for a laptop station, right? There's a faint crack going across the center of the desk, but I don't think it's very noticeable. There's also a watermark where I left either a plant or a glass without a coaster under it. But, it's also not very noticeable. I'm just going for full-disclosure here. Unfortunately, I can't really transport it since I don't have a truck or SUV. If you're interested, you can post here or email me (I'm at yahoo.com).

It's a great desk. But I'm really just read for something a little different.

Looking for someone to take over my lease - 1 bedroom in a cute 2 bedroom house

I'm moving back to Chicago soon, and I need someone to take over my half of the lease in this two bedroom house in August or sooner if possible. The lease is through next May, but if you wanted to stay longer or tack a month on, I don't see there being a problem. It's a really cute place. New kitchen. Good sized bedrooms. Lots of closet space. The tub in the bathroom was recently redone as well.

It's at 308 S. Prairie St. in Champaign. One block to Westside Park and one block to the bus lines on Springfield. Easy walking distance to downtown. It's really a nice place. Rent is $600 a month split two ways, so $300 a person with $9 each a month for water. Electric and gas prices stayed pretty low even during the winter when we were heating the place.

It's one of Royse and Brinkmeyer's properties, and they've been good about taking care of maintenance issues when they pop up. It also helps that their office is only two blocks away. There's lots of parking behind the house if you have a car. Also cats are welcome, if you've got one.

My roommate is a total sweetie. She's taking a break from school right now to work and save up some money. She does local theatre, and is really fun-loving. She's clean, and mostly keeps to herself. She's out of the house a lot working and such, but she's always there if you need someone to talk to.

If you're at all interested, please don't hesitate to reply to this or call Megan (m1sstuck3r) at (217) 778-7079. I know everyone wants to check a place out before moving in, and you're welcome to come over to see the place, look in the closets, turn on the water, etc. It's a really cute place with an awesome price.

More pictures here : http://www.flickr.com/photos/34206121@N00/sets/72157605530604324/ and http://www.roysebrinkmeyer.com/Apartments/module/company_property_info/company_property%5Bid%5D/2348/

Edit:
Snagged!

Illinois Shakespeare Festival

Announcing:

STUDENT NIGHTS at the ILLINOIS SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL in Bloomington

On selected evenings, student tickets are buy one, get one free. Purchase your tickets the night of the performance, and don't forget to show your ID! Student tickets, regularly priced at $16 on these evenings, come out to $8 apiece - less than some movie theatres!

The dates are as follows:

TITUS ANDRONICUS
Tuesday July 29, 7:30 PM

THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (ABRIDGED)
Wednesday July 30, 7:30 PM

TAMING OF THE SHREW
Tuesday August 5, 7:30 PM

All marketing aside, students (particularly non-theatre majors) are one group that's SORELY underrepresented out at the Festival, and we'd love to see more young faces in the crowd. I certainly understand that the cost can be pretty daunting. $16's a pretty good deal in the theatre world, but it's still a pretty hefty chunk of change to drop for something you don't know you'll love. Hopefully $8 is a more reasonable investment, and the discount can balance the cost of the drive! And even if you're just not interested in Shakespeare, come out for Complete Works. It's hilarious, and you don't need to be any sort of Shakespeare buff to get the jokes.

For more information, visit thefestival.org.

I have a queen sized mattress but no box spring to go with it. I'd rather avoid the hassle of buying one from an irritating furniture salesman. If you or someone you know has a queen sized box spring I would really appreciate it. I'm willing to pay for it, too. Alternately, if you happen to be a non-irritating furniture salesman who can sell me just a box spring, that would be fabulous.

I would need it before Thursday, though, so please let me know ASAP.

Thanks!

Needed: A violin player of moderate or better skill [play on pitch].

When: July 23rd - 26th [approx 7:30 p.m.] with rehearsals nightly the previous week and some rehearsals before that.

For What?: The youth theatre production of "Seusical, the Musical."

Pay: Not a lot. About $80 for all rehearsals/performances

I am the assistant director of The Urbana Park District's Youth Theatre Program. 80 young people, ages 9 - 18 rehearse four days a week for the production of "Seussical, the Musical".

Funding is low, but the quality of the program is exceptional in both performance and education. Our music director, stephen larson, is a recent graduate of millikin and would love to add a violin to the intimate, talented orchestra. We perform at parkland college theatre and would LOVE a musician who just enjoys playing with a small, talented orchestra and supports and respects youth in the arts. We would be so very grateful :)

Do you play or know anyone who plays?
