Any clue?
Does anybody have any clue what's up with the "Hip Hop Rots Your Brain" billboards that seem to have popped up all over town? According to the signs, they were put up by a group calling themselves the "Coalition of Responsible, Attentive Parents." I've tried to google both the group name and the slogan with seemingly no relevant results.

I was starting to think that they were a joke just because the acronym for the group would be "C.R.A.P.". . . but who knows?

They're supposed to be part of a series, and apparently the idea is to provoke discussion of media myths. I'm waiting to see if that's true.

it degrades the work of talented hip hop artists (talib kweli, the roots, mos def, krs-one, etc). so should these "responsible attentive parents" be shutting off the music of an artist that tries to get their child interested in politics? it's just a badly written statement. furthermore, it distracts from the real issue: the music industry in general across musical genres (how they choose to promote artists, who gets played, what types of songs are encouraged, etc.).
if they want parents to be attentive to what their children are listening to, there is a much more effective and less polarizing route they could have gone. like, "listen to the words, your children can hear them too." instead, they've chosen to create a fall-guy and alienate an entire following (believe it or not, many adults like hip hop too).

Dude, chill. And learn to read the entire thing before making up your mind. It's people like you (who don't see the whole picture) that are making satire a dying art. You have to take into account who is putting forth the message. THAT's THE POINT THEY"RE TRYING TO MAKE. They're saying "question the source" of your information. I say, you need to think twice.

i'm not saying it wasn't a satire..and if it's meant to generate conversation, then it did it's job, right? :) that's the point.

Didn't anyone watch the Channel 3 news yesterday? The 6:00 news has a whole segment on this.

Apparently the sign were put up by a new hip hop/rap group that is going to use the signs as advertising and a way to get people talking. Yes, there is going to be a series of them. Allegedly, the one that was vandalized was done so by people paid to do so.

Did anyone see the one that's on Green Street? Some spray painted out the hip hop and wrote under it, Ignorance, racism , stereotype...

heh.

I noticed the C.r.a.p right away. It was pretty funny. I was hoping that it wasn't something serious, because then that would just be bullshit. But yeah...anyways...
