Hello all! I am a new poster to this list.
I was wondering if anyone had any testimonials or advice regarding someone who can repair a leak in a roof. I did a google search and got a ton of hits, and while it's good to have options, sometimes it can be a little overwhelming. :)
Thanks!

An idiot hit my car after going the wrong way down, then backing up from, John onto Sixth yesterday.
I need two good body shops to get estimates so I can get some money for this repair. ARGH.
Any help appreciated. Thanks!

I saw this flyer while I was at the Saturn dealership on 1402 Dunlap in Savoy (South Neil, close to the Schnuck's and Savoy Theatres)
Thought it was a good deal and great cause:

There's a scrap yard on Oak in Urbana and I was wondering if anyone knew about it. It's by the train yard, near the corner of Oak and Anthony.

Yelp isn't helping much, for a change...
Where's the best place locally (I'm willing to drive, if need be) to get a good Brazilian wax?
Thanks in advance!

OK, we're moving soon, and we have a very old large Gateway monitor (which my husband seems to think still works) and a large rear projection TV. The TV was working till a month or two ago when the power went off in our house and when it came back on the TV wouldn't work anymore, and my husband thought that the capacitors blew (did a lot of research, but didn't have the time to try and fix). We've moved this TV all over the country over the last 9 years and don't want to move it again. It's not worth the cost of having it moved to Minneapolis with us.
So, I'm looking to pay some company or person to come haul these items away to be recycled or if anyone wants either as a project, they're free.
Thanks!!

I've got a very nice, three-year old queen mattress and box spring that I'd like to donate, but I'm not sure where I can do so. I know that it's illegal for the Salvation Army or Habitat to resell mattresses, no matter how gently used, but are there groups that donate such things to families in need?

I'm looking for a good mechanic in the area. Not just good, but scrupulously honest... y'know, the type that went to high school with your grandparents and everyone thinks the world of him (or her). The type who doesn't immediately think "sucker" when a woman brings her car in. Happy to drive out of town, too.
Thanks in advance!

Anyone have any idea where I could drop off unused/broken monitors and/or printers for recycling? I don't want to just throw them into the dumpster. Thanks.

This is a strange question, but... Does anyone know where I might be able to find a small-ish (8.5x11 or less) piece of clear, green plastic, such as if I placed it over a text written in green and "other" ink, the green text would become invisible but the rest would remain the same? I found something similar for $6.50+S&H online, but that seems a bit much if I can find it in town. Current Music: 少女革命ウテナ - 絶対運命黙示録with万有引力

so, i'm wondering if anyone has ever taken a cooking class in the area. the y is no longer teaching and i've looked at the urbana adult education classes, and they seem okay, but most seem super specific... "Valentine's day cookies, Vietnamese Appetizers, etc" I would like the BASICS and preferably healthy. does anyone have any input?

I checked the Tenant Union site and I wanted to kinda double check with anyone who may have had experience with this stuff:
We rent from an independent landlord. We had a door repair done a few months ago (the problem was there when we moved in this August, it was fixed a couple of months later, no big deal). Since the repair, the door was sort of knocked around in the frame where some stuff on the side came off and crumbled, and the door is not flush with a door frame. Now, it's super cold and we get an actual breeze around that door on one side. We asked our landlord if we could have our maintenance person fix this, and she said we should handle it because it's a simple weather stripping job. It's not. We'd have to remove crumbling old weather stripping to install new stuff, which may or may not work. To fix this would take a lot of time for us.
Thus, a cold impasse. What are our rights and obligations as tenants to get this problem fixed promptly?
Thanks a billion to anyone who can offer some input!

LIVE IN OR NEAR C-U? For those who hadn’t heard, Boardman’s Art Theatre will be no more as of December 31, 2009. They didn’t let him renew his lease—since they jacked up the rent on the place, now that downtown Champaign is “hip”—and a new “programmed” art theatre will be taking its place. The final movie that is showing is a restored, 60th anniversary print of THE BICYCLE THIEF, generally considered one of the greatest films of all time. The final showing is at 7pm on December 30TH, 2009. Lovely Wife Sara and I have already reserved our seats—center of row K, the best row in the place—and we’d love to see as many of our friends there for the last show as we possibly can. You can reserve specific seats on their website, http://www.boardmanstheatres.com/ The text of his last message is at the bottom of this post. Spread the word, tell your friends, and we hope to see you there. Love, b (and by proxy, S) --------------------------- “Fellow Independent and foreign language film lovers and Boardman's Art Theatre supporters... What good is being on an email newsletter list, if you don't hear the news there first? Many of you know that I was investigating reopening the Rialto Theatre (directly across from the Art Theatre) because my lease ends at the Art on December 30, 2009. While I would have loved the challenge and I love large, old, single-screen theatres, unfortunately, the owners of the Rialto Theatre did not feel the time was right for them. Other locations were explored, but none would have been ready in a timely manner. I have sold my equipment and furnishings to a new operator, Sanford Hess, who has secured a lease with the owner of the Art Theatre, David Kraft. It is my understanding that the new operator will be using a professional film booker to secure films. My hope and belief is the Art Theatre will continue to provide CU with quality Independent and foreign language films. I am proud to have taken the Art Theatre from its closed and run down condition in 1993 to the best theatre in CU today. The lobby/concession area remodel, the picture and (especially) the sound presentation, is my design. I have booked every film shown since reopening in June of 2003. I worked with the U of I to bring French, Latin American, and Asian film festivals to the Art Theatre. I would like to thank all of you for your interest in quality films, your attendance, and your film suggestions. Without your support, CU would suffer with only the multiplex offerings from the corporate giants in town. They thought we would fail. They hoped we would fail. They did what they could to bring our failure about. But in the end, Boardman's Art Theatre performed better than the multiplexes in some head-to-head battles. And they don't even come close to our attendance when they attempt to show films that truly belong at the Art. Your support for our presentation of quality Independent films now has many film distributors calling me to see if they can book their films into the Art Theatre. We should all be proud of that. In addition to your support, Boardman's Art Theatre could also not have been successful without the help of talented, honest and dedicated managers and staff over the years. And none has been better to rely on than Yvonne Green, my present manager, and her staff. Finally, I will miss all of the above and hearing from you. I wish that I could have been at the theatre more often, to discuss with you the many fine films you have enjoyed. I hope you continue to support the Art Theatre. Yvonne will be staying on for some time, helping with the transition. Smart Cards will continue to be operational into the new year.

I am selling 800-900 bags of Peruvian Coca Tea as seen on www.cocatea.com. This product is very potent and gives a energetic boost when brewed. It can also be chewed for a similar affect. Great for altitude sickness or stomach cramps. Also great for other health benefits. Read it up!!
I used some of the bags so I am not sure of how many there are. I'm pretty sure the tea is legal here in the states because I ordered it from that very website and customs didn't seize it.
email me at:
semiblocked@gmail.com to buy it.

This is sickening to me. Please be careful taking your dog to the dog park, and if you see anyone suspicious around dog parks or regular parks that match this description, call the police.
I hope they find Yumi, but if she was snatched by dog-fighting people, it's likely they're never going to see that dog again. This is just horrible and disgusting.

I have a large number of CDs (almost 200) that I want to get rid of, and get some cash back for them. I've tried Craigslist with no response, as well as I've looked at the websites online, but I think the cost of me shipping the CDs to them would be pretty significant. Does anyone know of anywhere in town that will purchase CDs, or anyone that might have another suggestion? Thanks.

I work in a bar/restaurant, and due to some change-ups at work, I've been elected to do some promoting for the business. If you've got a moment or two, I'd love to hear the community's opinions on some questions I have, not being a marketing or advertising guru myself.
What I'm really wondering is what sort of promotions/advertising/etc. do you pay attention to? If you're a student, if it's not aimed at you, do you tune out? Do you actually read any of the fliers or chalking on the Quad? If you're not a student, does the work 'student' turn the words into gibberish in your head? If you're searching for good drink and food specials, where do you look?
Thank you for your time, chambana!
